Bulls appoint Jim Boylan as head coach

Image

Bulls general manager John Paxson on Monday announced that Scott Skiles has been relieved of his duties as the team's head coach. On Thursday, the team appointed Lead Assistant Coach Jim Boylan to Interim Head Coach for the remainder of the season.
He has been Skiles' lead assistant since 2004, and previously served as an assistant coach on four other NBA teams including the Skiles-led Phoenix Suns in 2000-2001.
"Jim has paid his dues as an assistant coach and has his own ideas on the way he wants us to play," Bulls' executive vice president John Paxson said in a statement.
"Many top assistants never get the chance to be a head coach in the NBA and Jim has assured me he will provide the necessary energy and commitment this position requires," Paxson said.
During the press conference he gave as presentation, he exposed his main ideas to the journalists. "I am not going to keep Scott's style. I want to impose my own style to the team. Despite of that, i will keep Bulls decision of a young competitive team. We have a great and experienced player as Nocioni, i think he is able to lead youngers as Gordon, Hinrich and Deng to the playoffs. I promise that me and the players will work hard to return the past glories to the team."
Referring to possible trades, Boylan showed some interest in trading Ben Wallace. "We all know that Ben is playing injured, but he doesnt want to receive any treatment during the off-season, because he wants to enjoy his vacations. This type of behaviors will have to be errased if we want to achieve big things." This statements left fans and journalists thinking about Wallace leaving the team. Of course, it wont be easy to trade him, since his salary is one of the biggest in the NBA and he is not getting any younger.

Wallace responds to Boylan's comments

Image

After Boylan's comments, every Bulls fan and journalist was waiting Big Ben's answer. After today's training, Ben showed his dissent to the coach's words. "I want to leave the team as soon as possible. I cant work with a coach that says that about me. I know i havent played well during this year. In fact, i'm not even near to my Pistons performances some years ago, but i cant improve if Jim wants me out of the team."Journalist predict a trade between Chicago and Memphis, since their respective centers (Wallace and Gasol) are unhappy at their teams. GM John Paxon said that he will do the impossible to bring Pau to the team. If not, Bulls are also interested in having Jermaine O'Neal at the roster.

This looks promising. I'll be watching it.

Oh and in your recap it says 'Shaq and his Heats,' should be fixed to just Heat.

I hope your Bulls end up better than the mess that is their current regular season performance. Gordon and Deng need to shoot much better.

Troy Murphy arrives at Chicago

Image

Finally, the Ben Wallace novel has came to an end. Chicago wanted to discard him, while Indiana needed a superstar player to keep Jermaine O'Neal happy. In this trade, Bulls got a really good player that didnt have lucky in his NBA seasons. "I know Troy has the talent. I think Chicago is a place where he can exploit his skills and become the great player he insinuated to be in his younger days.", Jim Boylan said. Chicago also receives Marquis Daniels, who is going to be used as backup for Hinrich and Gordon. According to the coach, "Marquis is a very complete player. He can slash, post-up, rebound, defend, and, if needed, play the point, and do all of it at least adequately."
Murphy finished 06/07 season averaging 11.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.3 asists, while Daniels averaged 7.1 points coming from the bench.
Indiana received the already known Ben Wallace and Jameson Curry, a rookie who was not in Boylan's plans. With the incorporation of Big Ben, they keep happy their superstar Jermaine O'Neal, who wanted to leave the team some days ago. However, Ben is not in a good level. In fact, the press at Chicago think that he has been the worst move in the past years.

I like the trade you made, it's good for the Bulls. Marquis is an excellent scorer and I liked him a lot during his days as a member of the Mavs.

Although I'm not a big fan of Troy Murphy, I like what he potentially brings to the table. Earlier in his career I remember he was almost always a lock to get a double-double. Murphy doesn't answer the Bulls need for an inside presence, but at least Murphy keeps the defense more honest than Ben Wallace could.

And, if Murphy flops, you have a number of nice bigs in Gray, Noah, and Tyrus Thomas who could develop nicely.

Good luck with your dynasty! Hopefully you can win the 1st game of the season in your 2nd go-around at it.

Bulls great defense granted victory over Heat

Bulls started the game winning by 10 points at the end of the 1st quarter. That was really important , since thay could play the other 3 quarters in a more calm way. Andres Nocioni showed he is the leader of this young team. He scored 19 points, shooting 7/12 FG. The team evidenced a change from Skiles times. Boylan used his 12 players and all of them played in good form. The coach talked about the game at the press conference after the game: "This is the kind of teamplay i want. The guys defended with attitude, what's the key of basketball. We used our 12 players today, what shows that our roster has a large rotation. I'm very happy with Troy Murphy and Marquis Daniels; They both understood that teamwork is essential here. Although Marquis played only 8 minutes today, i will include him in the team rotation more often."
Deng, Murphy, Gray, Noah and Smith are a luxury just a few teams enjoy of. They give the team an excellent rotation under the basket.

Don't really like the Wallace departure. But you got two younger players in exchange.

Good luck next wee, shoot more and maybe start Gordon off the bench. Plays better in real life.

-km-, Yeah, I'm thinking of giving Ben the role of 6th man. Maybe i'll start with Gray or Noah as PF, Deng as SF and Nocioni as SG.

1 win and 1 lost in 2 even games

The week started with a visit to Orlando. In an even match, Bulls made the difference with Nocioni, Gordon and Deng scoring over 20 points. Also, "Chapu" grabbed 9 rebounds and gave 3 assists. In his second game at the team, Troy Murphy finished the night with 8 points, scoring 100% FG (3/3). In Orlando, Dwight Howard played just 13 minutes, scoring 9 points and 1 rebound.
Receiving Kins at home was a good chance to test the team performance against an experienced team. Sacramento's starting 5 were a nightmare for Chicago. All of them finished the night with more than 15 points. Brad Miller scored 21, while Kevin Martin ended with 26 points. Ron Artest recorded a triple-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 10 asists. Kirk Hincrich had a good game, scoring 34 points, but his teammates played really bad. Nocioni shot 1/13 FG, while Gordon 3/10.
Jim Boylan talked about the week at the press conference after Kings game. "We had a great game against Magic, most of the players played really well and we did a great job defending Dwight Howard. However, we didnt expect Bogans to score 23, but that's something we have to improve during the week. Game versus Sacramento was really even. In fact, they won the game during the last minutes. They have a great defense in the perimeter and we couldnt exploit our offensive arms. I'm currently pleased with Murphy's performances, he's getting used to the city and the team, but already showed he's a great player. Versus Magic he scored 3/3 FG, and versus Kings he grabbed 9 rebounds."

Yes I've said many times in the past Troy Murphy would be the answer to the Bulls need of a post presence that can also stretch the defense [Murphy 36.7% from downtown this year...higher then any "superstar".] Good luck. Cant wait for update. (Y)

An expected week

Troy Murphy played his first great game with Bulls, as they defeated Bucks by 109-100. Murphy scored 18 points (5/8 FG) and grabbed 9 rebounds. Anyway, the MVP of the night went (as always) to Andres Nocioni. The argentinian almost recorded a double-double, with 19 points and 9 rebounds; Once again he showed that he is the leader and franchise player of this young Bulls team.
Visiting Lebron James and his Cavs is always dangerous. Chicago played a good game, but their poor 3pt average was the key of the match. Ben Gordon shot 1/12 from the 3 point line, while Kirk Hinrich shot 1/10. It's obvious that any team can win shooting like this. In Cavs, James scored 24 points, while Larry Hughes scored 16 and Daniel Gibson 15.
A win over Pacers was neccesary to finish the week in a good way. Once again, "Chapu" Nocioni had an incredible night, recording a double-double (16 points and 16 rebounds). It was a quite easy game in wich Bulls dominated from the beginning to the end. Mike Dunleavy took almost all Pacers offensives, shooting 11/25 fied goals. Superstar Jermaine O'Neal finished the match with 20 points in 37 minutes.
Jim Boylan analyzed Bulls week. "The week finished just as we expected. Perhaps the victory over Bucks was quite difficult, but the team showed attiude to win the game. We almost defeat Cleveland at road, but our poor 3 point shooting costed us the match. Finally, a comfortable win over Pacers was usefull to keep the positive record. We are now 4-2 and expect to win much more games. I want to highlight Luol Deng performances, he's giving us almost 20 points every game and he plays less than 30 minutes. People may not underestand why too much rotation in the team, but giving rest to all the players may be usefull in playoffs."

Loooks nice.. I like the Murphy trade (Y) Good job. One small suggestion would be to put a space in between your game recaps. It'll look nicer and not look like just one block of text. Anyways good luck!

Worst week of the season

The worst journey in the whole NBA schedule was a nightmare for Bulls. Chicago could win the game versus Mavericks, but Jerry Stackhouse won the match with a 3 pointer with 10 seconds left. Andres Nocioni finished the night with 28 points, while Kirk Hincrich scored 25. Josh Howard was named mvp, with 22 points, missing only 2 shots out of 11.

After Dallas, a mentally weak Bulls team went to Houston to face Yao and his Rockets. The game was too easy for Houston, winning it by almost 40 points. The key was rockets dominance in the paint. Ming scored 32 points, while rookie Luis Scole scored 27. In Bulls, Kirk Hinrich played a decent game, finishing the night with 25 points.

Whatever Boylan told his players after Rockets game seemed to work versus San Antonio. However, an inspired Ginobili gave Spurs the victory, taking the lead of the team during the last possesions. Manu was the mvp of the night, scoring 20 points and grabbing 7 rebounds. Finley also had a good game, scoring 21 points. Once again, Andres Nocioni was Bulls best player, recording a double-double (25 points and 10 rebounds).

As every week, Jim Boylan gave the media his assessment of the week. "We knew this is the most difficult travel of the schedule, but we expected to win at least 1 game. We were near our objective in games against Dallas and San Antonio, but we did not have lucky during the last possesions. We hope to have better performances during the next week."
