Discussion about NBA Live 2004.

I am disappointed.

Postby chipper on Mon Oct 13, 2003 3:31 pm

This year Live's dynasty mode is not realistic at all and I am disappointed, and here is why.

* They do not have uniform changes in dynasty mode. Bad teams will change uniforms frequently to boost up their poor sales. It should happen a lot to teams which has 5 consecutive losing seasons and just drafted a good rookie to build up some hope.

* New shoes should be placed in NBA store but they don't have it. If there is a computer generated rookie called Abdur-Crap and he becomes an overall 90+ superstar, then they should generate some new shoes and name them air-abdur.

* Off-court distractions, fights, assaults, drug problems and so on should not only be included but also be frequent, as it is today.

* Players shouldn't only improve or worsen, but their body type should also change. Most rookies should be lanky and they should get bulky and eventually fat. If a player with a bad career-package signs a huge contract, he should get super-fat immediately and lose 40 points from his overall rating.

* When a player injures his knee badly (say, more than 1 month), then his knee must become an injury prone. So he will start to get injured at least once every season and it will always be a knee injury.

* They don't have enough buttons (or keys) to reflect real life motions. They must add at least 6 more keys (3 punches and 3 kicks) and various combinations of moves that are unique to some players.

* Some retired players should turn into coaches. This way, we can have new coaches with proper cyberfaces. It will be very realistic.

* Team budgets are not in the game either! Team budget must be separate from salary-caps. Teams like the Kings and Mavericks can go way up over the salarycap and the Clips must not be able to sign anyone after they have used up half the salary cap room.

* Bad players with huge contracts should NEVER retire until their contracts end...

EDIT: fixed a typo....

Nice one chip...

Especially that last one that with 'bad players with huge contracts should never retire before their contracts end'...

I had Ilgauskas in Live 2000 or 2001 and he had a maxed out 7 year contract on him... He was still a bit low on the overall side of things for a maximum contract... As the years in the franchise went on, well Ilgauskas had overall of 63 and still the maximum 300k contract on him... Man that was fun. I signed a lot of free agenst during that time... Man that was sweet, and incredibly infuriating...

They should let you alter the uniforms a bit but only in Dynasty mode. As long as it's not horrible like Madden's create a uniform. I also agree with the sneaker thing but I was thinking a bit different. I was thinking if you get a rookie or a vet who is doing extremely well then you should be able to create a sneaker. And with the nike license this feature would kill em. As far as the off the court problems I think that should stay out of games cause it's not neccesary.Live would also be banned from stores if in dynasty mode Lebron gets pulled over for speeding and they find an ounce of weed and a 9 in his car. Maybe fighting could be added one day but it would be rare and between two players or teams going through hard times.

i like moemoney's idea...create a sneakers would be kick ass on this game...the fact that they're licensed by nike.. i think they should come up w/ this idea..next year...im just frustrated in some point that J.kidd doesn't blow a kiss...and there is no technical foul...

Creating a shoe wouldn't be a problem for nike unless it's nike shoes

maybe its me but some of this stuff seems that it really isn't need  . some of this is good and some is just not wat live should be focusing on. assaults  and players getting injuryed every year because of a former bad injury? maybe not every year but i could understand that they should have a better chance at being injuried

Holy cow, you are one demanding freak-of-nature. Calm down! The Dynasty mode is new and at it's primative stage. Give EA a bit more time, things will change.

Personally..i think you're just nit picking. None of that stuff is needed for a good game imo. If you expected that stuff...then you were fooling yourself because EA never promised any of that. This thread is like a wishlist thread bro...you're ordering almonds and get upset when you get peanuts.

I like the idea of getting new jerseys, but with the create a team feature on other EA games, I wouldn't want it... I think the 4 designs they give you are garbage, the colors arnt spectacular, and the logos are garbage... until the fix the create a team type features, they can leave that out.

The way NBA Live has always worked is they focus on one aspect of their game before adding new.

Remember when the new player models were introduced a few years back (when this site was in all black) how many people hated that. Well, I remember posting how it was neccesary for them to do that in order for us to get more in the future.

And now we have the whole Free Style Right Hand Revolution stuff... thats all due to the fact that they focued on player models and animations for a year... everything else suffered in the game... remember how awful the rebounding use to be... you have to, it was only a couple years ago.

But now look at the game, the animations are excellent and we have basically complete control over our players.

This year they seem to be finishing up on the graphic end of it, and will make suttle changes in the department year by year (like Madden does) while focusing on other issues. Like now EA was able to focus most of its time on the Owner Mode and certain gameplay issues in Madden rather just graphic issues.

This will be the same for Live, touch ups graphics year by year while they improve on other aspects.

At this point, having not played Live 04 and havent really read the articles (i like picking up the game and being blown away) I am uncertain on what new aspects they will be applying in the upcoming years.

Sure the dynasty mode is a disappointment cause of the things you mentioned arnt in there, but Owner mode on Madden could have been a lot better as well, yet is still fun to play.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think chipper's post was tongue-in-cheek, and meant to be taken as a joke.

I agree with the thought that this was mostly a joke. I'm pretty sure most players don't want their superstar to be injury prone on the same knee after injuring it. Takes all the fun away. I was laughing at some of these points :) Good one, chipper.

heh...i didn't see his post about this being a wishlist...blind me.

Most of that stuff would make great extra additions and add to the positives of the nba live series though. I especially like the retired players turning into coaches idea...as well as the gaining and loosing weight.

Hehe yea this is meant to be a joke. But I thought a few of the stuffs I wrote down actually looked good (like getting retired players as coaches) so why not say it's a wishlist as well.

But i agree with most of you that some of them are better off not be in the game. Off-court distraction was fully a joke and I would HATE to see this kind of things in the game.

Madden must have something lke 30 custom logo's you can choose from and you can add them. I think it's the only patchable part of the game, for pc of course. And they're great.

But unless you know how to get the orignal logo back on (most don't) then it seems worthless.I still think it needs a lot of work but I still give Madden mad props for trying.

The NBA would NEVER give its license for use in a game that included things like that. You know that...
