There will not be Playstation 2 basketball games after this years versions so you might drop that if you want next year's editions.

If you have an HDTV spend the extra cash and go with the PS3. (built in blue ray) I am buying one this week since I am getting 2K8 for x-mas.

Does the 360 have an HDMI connector?

new 360s have the HDMI built in. I go with 360 on this just because there are more games out for it and it costs less.

Yeah the 360 has HDMI built in. And like JaoSming said, it has more games and better exclusives in my opinion as well. The price is better with more of a selection. How can you go wrong?

I'm a 360 owner, but aside of Bioshock, Mass Effect and Halo 3 (which IMO is very overrated), the 360 doesn't have very many good exclusives. The 30 exceeds though in being the jack of all trades as it tends to have the best versions of multi platform games, and already has quite the library when compared to the other 2.

Red ring is a bitch though.

I've owned both consoles but now own just the PS3 so I might be able to help....for me, the console are much the same....it all really depends on what you are after in a console....

if you are after online play, then you have to go 360....

if you want more multimedia options, then go PS3....

if you want a more reliable console, go PS3....

there aren't many exclusives these days, so unless you are a huge fan of Halo or Metal Gear Solid franchises, then it probably won't bother you....I think exclusives for 360 are Halo 3, Gears of War, Mass Effect & Bioshock....I think exclusives for PS3 are MGS4, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune & Ratchet & Clank....

PS3 has framerate issues in EA-produced sporting titles, so if that's what you want it for, I'd go with 360....

360 has better range of titles to date, but I think it'll probably start to even out in the next year or so....

I prefer 360's controllers, but I prefer charging the PS3 ones....

price is better for 360....

if you are in PAL region (which I'll assume you are not), then you'd have to go a PS3 as the college sports titles are only released NTSC on 360....that's why I got a PS3 which is region free, because I couldn't play the college sports titles on my PAL 360....

but to finally cut to the chase, since you want college sports titles, I'd go with a 360....their sporting titles tend to have less framerate issues than the PS3....I have College Hoops 2k7 & 2k8 on PS3....framerate issues aren't too bad....haven't noticed them as much in 2k8 as 2k7....hope I've helped somewhat....good luck....

EDIT: Forgot to say that I have seen first hand the damage some 360's do to 2k sports game discs....I don't know if 2k makes them cheaper than everyone else, but 360's seem to like to chew them up & spit them out....probably won't affect your decision, but just thought I'd let you know the problems I had & many others on different forums have had....

ithink you all have given me a greate deal of info as the biggest answer is is from the last post, and thatthe college sorts stuff. i'm a big college fan, and specailly for basketball as that's the passion of where i'm from, so it sounds 360 wins to me. any cares to rebut, please do, as i'm not quite set to but it yet, proably in another week or so. as of now.

I own both and right now, the easy choice is the 360 because of the games.

The ps3 has the potential to be a great system, but right now its not even close. The online is messy to say the least, and the controller is psx esque in terms of weight.

But it is a less noisy machine, and thats good. But my 360 is from launch and the newer ones are comparable in terms of sound to the ps3.

But as I said before, it comes down to games. Obviously it has all the cross platform sports and must buys (cod4, rainbow 6 vegas, oblivion etc) but it has the exclusives: Halo 3, Gears of war, Crackdown, Bioshock, Forza 2 and Mass Effect.

The best exclusive for the ps3 is uncharted drakes fortune, and whilst this is a good game it cant be put in the same class as gears of war, halo 3 and bioshock.

Ps3 will have home soon, but with no real purpose I cant see how that will benefit any gamer. Maybe it'll be a hit, but I cant see it. Goto habbohotel.com if you like that kind of stuff.

So in summary, the xbox has better:
games
controller
mp support

the ps3 has:
a quieter system

The PS3 got some great exclusives coming in 08, such as Metal Gears Solid 4 and Devil May Cry 4. Also, i think Ratchet and Clank FTOD is a really fun game, but not in level with the ones mentioned above. And what do you think is wrong with the PS3 controller? I personally prefer that above the 360 controller, i small, light and has Sixaxis. The 360 is just to big to hold on

Okay, I have had it! I am very pissed about NBA Live 08 on PC and like to buy a next-gen console and NBA 2K8. Maybe I wait till next year when NBA 2K9 is released. So I read about the framerate issues of the Playstation 3. But I am also quite doubtful about buying a Xbox 360 because of the technical issues. I know many people who are whining about problems with their Xbox 360. I have not a HD TV and I am not going to buy one, at least not in closer future. Well, is it worthy to buy a Playstation 3?

I think so. Specially with the new 40 gb. version. I have one myself, and i dont have a HD tv, and i still thinks it is really good. I also haven't really noticed any framerate issues yet

And Darko has the potential to be a superstar. I dont doubt that mgs4 will be awesome, but until it's released you cant sell a system on it. Look at Lair. Look at Perfect Dark Zero. Look at Dead Rising. Those games were meant to be great exclusives for their system and turned out to be busts (the worst one being lair).

So just wait before they are released before advising someone to buy one.

And the controller is way too light, you forget you're holding it half the time. The r3 and l2 trigger buttons dont feel natural within the design of the controller, and the analog sticks feel like they are slipping when you have fast movement.

But the D pad is superior to the 360's one. Sixaxis im not sold on, especially after lair.

The framerate issues came from ea not knowing how to really program it properly. That might/might not be fixed by next years games..

But if you're going to wait, do just that. Don't have your mind made up now when the whole geographic of this generation of gaming could change in 6 months.

Plus the 360 has a 3 year warranty to cover hardware faults, so I wouldn't be too concerned about that.
