INDIANA- It looked like another long day in Lakerland.
Los Angeles trailed 80-64 entering the fourth quarter after sluggish play all throughout, but Jason Kidd came out of the gates hot, driving the paint at will, refusing to lose and drove the Lakers to a 100-97 victory over the Indiana Pacers.
With 2 minutes remaining, LA had cut the lead down to six, 95-89 and thirty seconds later, the game was tied at 95-95. By this time all momentum was on the Lakers' side and Indiana was shooting blanks. With a minute left, Kidd gave Los Angeles their first lead of the game at 97-95. After a blown layup by Troy Murphy, Kidd fed Evans for a jam with 39.0 seconds left to put some separation, 99-95.
Jermaine O'Neal scored his 40th point on a jumper with 30.0 seconds remaining, cutting the lead to 99-97. Kidd looked to run the clock down and seal the game, but blew a layup in the lane with 13.2 seconds left, giving the Pacers hope. However, Indiana missed their chance when Marquis Daniels threw a pass intended for O'Neal out of bounds with 4.0 seconds left. Kidd split his free throws to set the final score.
Kidd finished with 30 points, 21 in the final quarter, to go along with 5 assists and 5 steals, leading LA to their first win since Kobe Bryant went down. Vladimir Radmanovic chipped in with 18. Luke Walton, scored 12 points, before going down near the end of the game with a sore shoulder and did not return. Doctors said he will be out 12 days.
Jermaine O'Neal scored 40 points to lead Indiana.
SCOTT PADGETT SIGNED
In light of Luke Walton's injury, the Lakers have signed 31-year old forward Scott Padgett to help the fading front court. LA is once again short-handed, with four players on the injured list.
He averages 4.2 career points and is a 37% three-point shooter. His best season came in 2001-2002, where he averaged 6.7 points and shot 43.4% from beyond the arc.
"Scott ads another body in our front court," Isaiah Cruz said. "Luke Walton is out, and we need all the bigs we can get. He stretches the defense and is a veteran presence on this very relatively young team."
He will make his debut against the Milwaukee Bucks.
