Wolves look to future: McHale Sacked

ESPN - 24/10/2007

Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor announced today that GM Kevin McHale had been asked to step down from his duties. Taylor decided after an off-season of significant changes, seeing the departure of the teams franchise player Kevin Garnett, that the time was right to hire a new GM to lead this young team back to prominence in the future.

Taylor announced the new GM as Ty Land, a young Australian business man who has achieved significant success in Australian sporting circles. At the ripe age of 22 years, the hiring of GM Ty further emphasises Taylor's backing off the teams youth movement and desire to establish a team focussed on long term success.

At the press conference held this morning, the team owner backed his hiring of the young Australian and stated that coach Wittman was here to stay. Responding to questions from the press, GM Ty outlined his aims for the team: "I am looking for this team to be competitive from the get-go. We want to challange for the play-offs from day one, and that will be our goal. In saying that, this is a young team with a lot of potential to be a major contender in a few years. Names like Jefferson, Foye, Brewer, Telfair and Green are central to the teams future. Therefore, we have to nurture and develop these young players, ensure their is capspace to resign them in future, and get the right players to fit around them."

When asked about the prospect of any trades, the new GM responded: "We will assess our options. Some players are untouchable, others will be considered if the right trade is available. To that regard, it shouldn't be expected that we will shake the team up dramatically." GM Ty said "we have a young and promising core that holds the future of this team, we have a group of veterans who will play a key role in leading this group and helping their development, we have a coach who is going to push this team to be active on both ends of the floor and will hold players accountable if they don't put in." Owner Glen Taylor closed the conference by saying "this team holds a lot of promise for a few years down the road, but we will ensure we put on the best show until we get there."

New Wolves to the Den - GM Ty makes 2 trades
Chad Ford - ESPN - 28/10/07

New Timberwolves GM Ty has made his first roster moves. In two deals, the Minnesota franchise have filled needs in the roster and opened potential capspace for the future.

The most important deal of the two, sending Antoine Walker and a 2009 1st Round Draft pick to the Lakers in exchange for Kwame Brown seemingly meets the off-season aims of both teams. The Lakers gain another veteran who can help Kobe and Co. with a playoff run, and a future draft pick to ensure more talent for the future. Walker, who can hit the outside shot and is a solid passer will fit nicely in Phil Jackson's system as long as he competes on both ends. For the Wolves, they gain a former #1 pick who has disappointed in his career so far. Brown, though is an above average man defender, something the Wolves need to back up their rising star Al Jefferson. Speaking to GM Ty, he said Browns' defence was a motivating factor in this trade, as well as his expiring contract in signing FA's in the next off-season.

Shortly after that trade was announced, the Wolves owner Glen Taylor passed word that another minor trade had been completed. The Wolves sent one of their numerous Power Forwards Craig Smith to Phoenix for their rookie Alando Tucker. Ty stated Tucker provided a young back-up that had a lot of potential. He filled a need for a legitimate SF.

Ask if any more trades were likely, the Wolves GM stated not until he had seen the team play the first month of the season, where he could determine how this group plays together and the progress of each player. He said if a team offered him a good deal he would consider it though.

Rumour Central: T'Wolves look to deal
Y! Sports - 26/10/07

Yahoo Sports insiders have heard rumblings that new Minnesota GM Ty is looking to deal away some of his power forwards. The Wolves have a glut of players at that position, and as result want to clear out up to two players to get back-ups for other positions. Draft picks are also apparently on the table, to sweeten the deal for prospective takers if need be. Apparently GM Ty has approached Seattle, New York, LA Lakers, Phoenix, 76ers and Chicago with potential trades. Other teams have become aware of the offers and started considering possible deals involving 3 teams. We shall see what unfolds...

Good guess, but not this time. Will probably do a Bucks association later one, but this one is with a team I have never used in the past.

Atlanta is my guess. Or Portland, because Greg Oden is Lakers Dynasty Shaq on this game

Not the Knicks either, I want a team with some hope for the future, not that chaotic shambles.

Wolves new GM has checkered past?
Fox Sports - 10/28/2007

A day after Timberwolves general manager Ty Land was named as the new architect of the struggling franchise, certain people supposedly close with the GM told Fox Sports sources about the shadowy side of Ty Land.

These people requested their identity to remain anonymous.

The sources say the GM has connections with organized crime particularly that of the Russian mafia, Yakuza, and Triad. Fox Sports tried to get more information from the informants but they chose not to reveal anymore details hoping that the proper authorities will investigate the matter.

Fox Sports called the offices of Ty Land and Wolves owner Glen Taylor about the accusation but the calls were unanswered.

Give me a day or two and this will get off the ground. Was going to get a few games under my belt today, but a thunderstorm kindly interrupted that. Hopefully have the first update up tomorrow.

I find Green easier in 2k8 than McCants. I can get on a run with Green, use his height and athleticism on D, but with McCants I'm struggling to find a shooting rhythm with him, plus he struggles on D.

Good trade and you kept your 08 draft pick which is good too.

Browns a free agent in the summer so good trade bait before the deadline, iam a fan of Smiths but with Kwame, al and Gomes dont think he would of got much court time fair play!
