I would suggest finishing "When Nothing Else Matters" next, if only because it exposes Jordan's foolishness, even though the guy is a major fanboi.

Alton Brown's book is more of a glance through, and reference in detail later book.

Right now Im reading The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins.

My friends raved about it, and its really good so far. Hard to read if youre not extremely well read though, I have to keep looking at a dictionary for words Ive never heard before... Theres a lot of philosophical/scientific words that are integral to the point he is trying to get across, but if you aren't into that, I dont see how you would know them without the dictionary...

Favourite books are:

- darwin awards (awesome toilet reading)

Ugh. Sometimes I wonder why some people try to write books outside their depth or miles from their expertise. (Chomsky? EDIT: Or for example, if I wrote a book on off-the-cuff spelling. Good darko was this entire post butchered.)

At least Hitchens' book has his delicious orgasmic prose.

Definitely.

"What is What" by Dave Eggers based on the life of Valentino Achak Deng, one of thousands of 'Lost Boys' forced to leave his village in Sudan at 7 years old and survive numerous adversities across three countries before finding 'freedom' in the US; apparently though it's not all it's dreamt up to be - the book starts with him wishing to be back in his homeland as he is violently robbed at gun point in his own house by an African American man and woman...

also, "Monsieur Jeremie Peche-a-la Ligne" a french translation of Beatrix Potter's children's story, "The Tale of Jeremy Fisher" Why? because my gf is part French and i'm learning to parle Francais

Who has experience with something that doesn't exist?

I don't read much, but this is a book a teacher in my school wrote and published. I was talking to him about it and it is very well thought out and has an amazing plot.

There's something about Crichton's works that makes me go meh/bah.
I don't whether it's his plot or writing style, I just can't pinpoint it.

^ Really? I really enjoted Jurassic Park. Read it in a couple of days and I rarely do that.

I didnt really enjoy this book a lot... it was readable, but not non-putdownable

I wouldn't NOT reccommend it, just not as much as you did

I love Michael Crichton. I read Prey in two days because I couldn't put it down. Most of his stuff is like that for me. It's not always deep literature, but it's definitely very very entertaining. Dan Brown reminds me of him, except Dan Brown isn't as smart nor as skilled a writer.

Dan Brown is a no talent hack.
