Free agents still unsigned!

Fri Sep 28, 2007 2:38 am

Well the off season is coming to a close. NBA teams still have about a month left. So who is still out there looking for a contract? Here is a list of quality players that i think still have a shot of being signed.

The list is based off the current NBA.com free agent page.

Earl Boykins
P.J. Brown
Dale Davis
Danny Fortson
Marc Jackson
Michael Olowokandi
Sasha Pavlovic
Gary Payton
Mickael Pietrus?
Jalen Rose
Michael Sweetney
Anderson Varejao
Chris Webber

Most of these guys are solid, vertrans, but surprisingly most are quality big men. So who do you think will sign with a team, where, and who will be left out of the nba?

Guys on the list that signed.
Sarunas Jasikevicius (to europe)
Dikembe Mutombo (to Houston)

Mutombo's coming back to Houston.

Sarunas Jasikevicius went to Europe.

Well, we know Jalen Rose won't sign a big contract with the Suns to sit on the bench, but I'm not really sure where he will go. Miami desperately needs someone, but can they fit him in?

Think Varejao is going to get a contract for sure, decent bench guy, still young.

a month is still a while to sign players yet. Wasnt Payton meant to be retiring? and probably fortson, dale davis and maybe a few others probably will too

Varejao + Pavlovic will sign 1yr deals with Cleveland, and then probably leave next offseason, leaving Cavs more fucked than they currently are

I find it strange no one wants Boykins... He must be asking way too much. Surely there is a team SOMEWHERE that needs a decent PG off the bench. Will be signed before the season is out, thats for sure...

Webber will probly sign somewhere mid season

Boykins is last years Bonzi wells

Boykins is a mentally unstable guard and will be out of shape when the regular season starts?

I wouldn't be surprised to see Payton retire seeing as though he's getting on in years, has had a great career and finally got his ring in 2006. If he does play one more year I could see him going to Seattle for a farewall tour or signing on with a championship contender for a shot a ring number two. I also wouldn't be too surprised if a few of those players end up being signed after the season begins and teams start looking to plug holes and find replacements for injured players, especially the older players like Brown, Davis and perhaps even Webber, who could be mulling retirement. If Webber doesn't retire then he could be a steal at the veteran's minimum. At the very worst he'd be a low-risk, affordable short-term investment.

I would be very surprised if there isn't an NBA team out there who would want what Boykins offers off the bench. In my opinion he isn't good enough to be your starting PG but he can really affect the game coming off the bench.

looks like Webber's also looking at maybe playing in Europe

i think webber is just looking for one last big payday before his playing days are done.

i guess Varejao's agent is trying to get him 10 mil a season. Im not sure but that sounds like alot for a garbage type player.

Mon Oct 01, 2007 3:34 am

He's not a garbage type player.
He's just garbage for a player.

10 mil a season is alot, but someone will pay it for him. if not the cavs then someone will pay him that much, and that is pretty much the problem with the nba lol

My predictions :

Earl Boykins - Re-Signs with the Bucks
P.J. Brown - Phoenix Suns, Veteran Minimum.
Sasha Pavlovic - Will go international.
Mickael Pietrus - Re-Signs with the Warriors.
Anderson Varejao - Wont accept Cavaliers' contract, Go international or sign with another NBA team.
Chris Webber - Accepts offer from the Pistons.

Why would Boykins go back to the Bucks? They already have Bell and Mo Williams returning and they've added Desmond Mason and a recovered Bobby Simmons who will take up minutes at the 2 spot when Michael Redd is resting as well.

If anything Boykins might sign a low salary 1 year deal with Miami.

I guess Payton will play this season for the warriors. Also nice to see him in Seattle.

I think the better question is: Why would he want to go to the Lakers?
