College Programs

Mon Oct 01, 2007 3:59 am

Does anyone know any good programs to get me into an alright school? I struggled badly during high school with a 2.2 GPA and a 1380/2400 SAT score. I wouldn't mind dorming anywhere in the country but I'm wondering if any schools have some kind of program for struggling students. I don't know what my major is going to be yet so I'm not declaring anything. As of now I am taking a year off to save money etc....

You could go to a community/junior college, boost your GPA/etc., then transfer. Plus, it will be cheaper.

How many years would I have to be in the community college to boost my gpa? Do I get a clean slate in community College so if I do well in that school it won't get averaged with my grades from HS?

Well, most colleges will still look at your high school records, but if you show improvement by doing well at a community college they will take that into account. If you find a community college that can transfer well to a four-year university, you can be there for two years or so and take all the core classes at the community college.

If you are unsure of what you want to do, you can also try different fields much cheaper at a community college. You might even find a degree they offer you would want to do instead.

Thanks for the help man I'm gonna look into my local community college if I don't get accepted to Johnson & Wales, they say you need a C average to get into that school.

community college is a great idea. there are people from my high school that were dumb as a doorknob that managed to transfer to UCLA after 2 yrs of CC.

Thanks for being sensitive to Doobie's feelings Q.

that statement had nothing to do with Doobie. it was merely a comment about some of the idiots that went to my high school. it is really my fault that I couldn't get into UCLA straight out of high school? would I have gone if I got in? probably not.
