Band Name O'Clock

Postby Nick on Wed Sep 26, 2007 1:58 pm

Howdy nlsc. (Y) Jae's Football manager nlsc game dragged me back onto the boards, so i thought i'd join in on your general talkage discussions and create a thread.

I need help for a band name, so spark up your creative juices and imaginitive deliberations and give a brother a hand.

Me and my band have been facing this cruel dilemma of band name for about a month or more, and we just can't seem to find one that we can settle on. Everything we come up with is either "maybe pile" material or just plain shit. We can make the music, but when it comes to band name, we truly lick the balls.

I don't quite know what our genre is yet, but i suppose, even though it's a stupidly broad description, we would fit into Alternative Rock.

I want the name to be reasonably cool, but not gimmicky or "trying too hard". We don't mind if it's silly and/or light-hearted, but i've heard enough "funny" band names to last me a year, so if you want to be the funny man and say a funny name, it better be fucking good, cos i swear to god i'll scream.

So let's see your best band names! I'm not expecting this to work, but i'm kinda interested to see what kinda stuff comes up, whether they're right for my band or not...

Fallout Kid

EDIT: Maybe if you put some of the names you already have, or the songs you play, it would be easier.

Nick's Atomic Dustbin... ?

Just think of your favourite cover song you like to play as a band and steal a word or two from that (i.e. Powderfinger). Or use the name of your favourite venue to see bands and alter it a bit (e.g. The Corner becomes The Corners (poor example I know)).

I've already got my next bands name locked up (just need to piece the band together now), but my former band was called Rebel Sun. That just came to us when having a beer break between songs when rehearsing. Basically it was a manipulation of a songs lyrics call "Rising Like The Sun", which turned to Rebel Sun Rising, then to the name above.

Petrified Feces FTW.

Anyway, here are a few I came up with (read: they suck):

- Comma
- Kings of Nothing
- Porcelain
- Finding Wally
- Bows & Arrows

Also, as I read Cyanide's post, I actually realized "Cyanide" might be a good name for a band. You could get sued by Cy, though, so it's up to you.

That's actually really good advice. I might delve into that and see what i come up with.

We plan to cover 'Go with the flow' by qotsa and 'Paranoid Android', so off the top of my head already that gives me my first decent suggestion - The Paranoid Flow.

Whatever. (Y)

I'd probably need to know more about you & your band....

Ok, my biggest influences, in no particular order, seem to be:
Queens Of The Stone Age
Rage Against The Machine
Muse
The Mars Volta
Radiohead
Elliott Smith
System Of A Down
Incubus (of old)

while drawing mild influence from:
At The Drive In
Jeff Buckley
The Beatles (obviously, who doesn't)
Karnivool
Red Hot Chili Peppers (of old)
Foo Fighters
Tool
Mr Bungle
Silverchair (yes, including their new stuff)
Led Zepplin

Err yeah i'll stop there.

My singer(/musical partner)'s list would be similar. (we went to the same high school and live in the same house)
My guitarist likes all sorts of music.
And the bassist likes metal.

Anyway, hope that puts it more into perspective.

My favourite names so far are Bombsquito, Paper Cars and Finding Wally

D Stats
Sub Bug
Primacy Bug
Career Package

The Nick Barnsey Experience.

Our old/current name wasn't too far from that kind of thing, haha.

We were 'Nick And The Beavertown Band'

No shit.
