Haha, well, the Bucks have some explaining to do. "Oh no, we didn't give him a slap in the face. He simply passed the Chinese Tourture Tests."
Fri Sep 21, 2007 12:04 pm
Apparently the Bucks have been waiting all summer for him to set the market value for himself.
I'm happy that they have matched, means the guard rotation is set for the next couple of years. He's versatile and can play D, something I don't want to give to the Heat. He's a professional and will play for this team I'm sure. I think his bitching and complaining was in attempt to get a better deal and make sure he gets what is best for his family.
Glad to have you back Charlie!

They had to match....at that money, I think Charlie is very good value....

I feel bad for Charlie. He thought he was headed for beaches and bikinis. Instead he has to return to the city where every building looks like a factory and there is nothing to do but drink beer. But there is a lot of beer...

He's playing behind a lot of point guards in Milwaukee too, he could've easily beasted in Miami, where he would've been getting a lot more minutes.

Not really....he will play as a backup SG/PG & be first off the bench for both Redd & Mo Williams....often the Bucks move Redd to SF & play Bell at SG beside Mo Williams....I can't see him averaging under 25 minutes per game....

Thats true, but with the Mason signing i would think he would get most of the backup SG spot while Simmons, Villa, Yi share SF/PF. Plus they have Noel. But im sure he will get every minute that mo williams isnt in the game.

shite, I forgot about that Mason signing & if Simmons is back from injury....I'd imagine:
C- Bogut/Gadz/Voskuhl (or v-v for backups)
PF- Villanueva/Yi/Simmons
SF- Simmons (if healthy)/Mason/Bell
SG- Redd/Bell/Mason
PG- Williams/Bell/Greer/Ivey
I guess it all depends on the health of certain players like Simmons....should be interesting how the coach handles the logjams....

I can't blame the Bucks for matching the offer sheet as he's had a couple of good seasons for them but with all that's happened there's some fences that will need to be mended. Perhaps he will ultimately get traded at some point, though I believe he cannot be traded to the Heat for one year as per the rules with offer sheets (though I could be mistaken).

"Michael has made a career out of being a high-character, high-energy player who does the little things to help his team," Bucks general manager Larry Harris said.
Like throwing the ball in the air when there's enough time for the opposition to grab it and send the game into overtime with a three, where they ultimately prevail.

Former Temple and Engineering & Science point guard Lynn Greer is trading one guaranteed year in the NBA for two more lucrative ones in the Euroleague. Greer, who had one guaranteed season left with the Milwaukee Bucks, has opted to sign a two-year guaranteed deal with Greece's Olympiacos of the Euroleague. Greer would have been paid $770,610 this season in Milwaukee. He will be making close to $7 million over the next two years in Greece, according to a source. Philadelphia Inquirer
Damn... thats a nice deal for him, but i saw promise in his play late last season. Would of liked to keep him, but good luck to him.

good on Greer, the Bucks didn't deserve to keep him

What?!
They were able to mend the Yi situation, and get him signed well before camp. They were able to retain Mo Williams and they held on to Charlie Bell.
This offseason could have been a lot worse for Milwaukee, all they did was put themselves in a position to get back in the playoff race if they are healthy.

Ingoring that they probably overpaid for Williams in a market that did not exist.
They brought back Desmond Mason for $10 million for some insane reason, signed Jake Voskuhl to a $3 million deal, failed to understand negotiation over Yi, brought back a player the media indicated wanted no part of the team on a five year contract. Rounded out the roster with Michael Ruffin, Royal Ivey and Awvee Storey. In a five-on-five contest between Voskuhl-Ruffin-Storey-Mason-Ivey and the best NLSCers I would be tempted to put money on the NLSCers to score more points.
If they make the playoffs this season it will be because Redd, Villaneuva and Williams don't miss a combined 86 games and Simmons is healthy again. Not because of anything they did this offseason.
Replacing Patterson and Skinner with Mason and Voskuhl would've cost them 7-8 wins last season (27-29 wins to 19-22) so they have that deficit to make up. I do not see how bringing back two players they already had and adding Yi would change that.
Unless Simmons plays like he did in Los Angeles, and Yi is a near all-star rookie, AND Mason shakes off two years of epic fail, I don't see how they got any better.

one thing is for sure, the team chemistry wont be that good for the bucks. between bogut,yi,bell, so on, i dont see this team getting together so well
Wed Sep 26, 2007 5:50 pm
The Bucks have now signed Samaki Walker
Wed Sep 26, 2007 6:18 pm
oh man this is hilarious.
Skinner > Ruffin, Walker

Was reading that earlier. Pretty fucking cool.

Comparing his contract to other PG's of similar ability in the league you would see his contract is pretty decent. Just look at the extension Devin Harris got or Mike James' deal.

Don't get that argument. The intended starting 5 and key reserves (Bell, Gadz) will be returning. Mason was a former team captain. Teammates don't have any problems with Bogut or Bell (in fact Mo adjusted his contract so Bell could be resigned). So I don't know why this assumption was made.
Skinner > Ruffin, Walker
The difference between Skinner and Ruffin is minute. Both are poor on offense, average defenders and solid rebounders. Neither are athletic. Skinner was stupid enough to think he would get $5 million for the Bucks, they refused and signed Voskul instead for $3 million. Now he is going to struggle up the court for the Suns. Will be interesting to watch that. Regarding Walker, he is a training camp body fighting for a spot with Ruffin and Reyes.
Wed Sep 26, 2007 9:41 pm
skinner is easily an above average defender. Better than any other big Bucks had on their roster...and while he's not a scorer, he's far ahead of the worst offensive big man in the league. Of course he's not worth 5mill....but he's still better.
Thu Sep 27, 2007 1:03 am
skinner is intimidating. he has a big frame, 6'9" 250 body, with great defensive awareness. this is a great loss to the bucks. the bucks made too many minor signings this offseason.
-Royal Ivey
-Samaki Walker
-Michael Ruffin
-Awvee Storey
and of course Jake V
if this leads to the development of the younger players than this could be a smart move.
Best move forthem was signing Desmond Mason. This may clash with the return of bobby simmons but this gives them another veteran go to guy. Many ppl have forgotten he was the former captain of the milwaukee bucks and shows great leadership skills.
He may not be a pure scorer, but he sticks to his strengths and is just more than a role player.
He's good for 15pts 5rebs 2asts. Ruben has left a huge hole in the bucks roster.
I believe that this seems more like a rebuilding yr for the bucks and has a chance of hooping in late april.

Mason isn't capable of being an offensive go to guy. His offensive game is way too limited to be considered an offensive threat on a nightly basis.

Desmond Mason is an excellent scramble scorer.
