MOD TOOLS FOR PC!!!

man o man, theres always some clowns in the bunch, drew i wish you could source code the fools that voted no, yall already know my vote, i aint gotta say, look,my take on this, is like this...

1. nba for most of us on the pc, without this website, would not be nothing plain and simple.

2. for the noobs thats joining this site, you better reconize the hard work these guys put in these mods, to fix ea's mess.

3. yall know this thread is wicked, and last yr when i seen the article in the mag, man no lie i was proud, that finnaly we got some reconition, no doubt with drew working with them he has insight on things we dont, but even drew has boundaries he has to follow, and i can understand that 4sho.

4. man i would luv to see this go through, and please put my name on it when its drawn up foreal foreal, and after J, showed those files, i mean really ea has to feel really bad, that they put stuff liek that in-game, and not be able to use it, and what really burns me up about it is, the ea programmers gotta be watchign the website to some sort of degree, and they know the awsome patches we have here, and they still dont deliever, that is really sad.

5. i for 1 say, we hound ea this year, i mean really come together, all these websites, we see daily on the net, and like the 1 cat said few places up, get all the oldschool and the newschool and we just get at them tuff!

6. to me with the games that are currently out, nba live for the pc, should be an awsome game, it really should, but live is running in the past and i think it's time we DEMAND the future.

i know i raved a little to much, but seriously i hope we can get these tools, it really would make the game better, hell i would even break out my book work to learn how to mod, and most of the ppl here that know me, know i cant mod for nada, but i have participated and contributed in my own way, so fellaz im with it, sign me up for whateva is wrote up and lets hope we can have some good fortune for a change.

Yeah I think they owe us after the shit that was 07. Plus they will probably not even have Live for the pc next year and then port the next gen version the year after. So if this is gonna be the last current gen version I say what do they have lose? I doubt people will still be playing current gen and trying to update it when/if the next gen version comes to the pc, so it's not like they will lose any money by doing so.

Are you talking about Live 09, right? or Live 2010?

Quick thought - NBA Live 10 sounds weird. I think they will move back to the 4 digit format for 2010.

Why do you think that?

I work in software development and no smart developer will ever give out SDKs of their software. An SDK is Software Development Kit, it can dig in very very deep into games roots and there are very few examples in games industry that give very limited and restricted of such power to the playerbase.

Main reason why EA will never ever release SDK's for almost any of their titles - especially yearly titles - is to keep MODs as such down to graphics tweaks. They give you things like sliders instead. Main reason for all that is to have people buying the next years game.

This is all about business, on software development marketing level, there's no thing like modding (unless game franchise is based on modding or strong modding support like some shooters (like Unreal). And even in series like Unreal, SDKs are very limited, simply to basic scripting of how main game functions work and map editing. That's merely fraction of the tip of the iceberg.

It would not benefit EA to release strong modding tools for the playerbase of NBA Live. While it would make you - the players - very happy, it would cut down their potential profits of next years game, especially if they intend to continue current trend of PC game releases (a simple roster update with a few tweaks).

If they would release, say, good SDK tools for Live 08, they would seriously cut their profits for next years title unless completely remaking it.

Releasing SDK's is usually more common when a franchise ends entirely and the game won't bring in profits in the future (since it helps the sales of the old game that's not developed nor marketed by original developers and publishers anymore).

Really, purely from business standpoint, EA would be shooting themselves in the leg if they'd release good SDK for Live 08 for the PC.

Im fairly certain there will be PC versions for next years. Even if they are mere simple tweaks or roster updates, there will be people buying them, since well, they are new NBA games. Some people are happy even if very little is improved, for example I liked 07 as opposed to many, and Im sure I'll like 08.

Really, they aren't spending alot of time on Live 08 PS2/PC development, they will bring some ideas from the next gen version and code them into current generation versions. It's really a two-three months work at best. But profits from this are enormous, they won't be cutting that one out. I doubt they'd do something like that.

That's the point of the SDK, imo. Simplifying the texture, model(cyberface), and roster modding. The least they could do is release some plugins for editing models in a 3d editor and textures in photoshop.

Nah, you didn't understand what I meant. They don't 'allow-want' even such tweaks, that's why you have custom made tools for these things. They are just easiest things to mod in most games since encrypting them with custom protection would be silly and a hassle for developers themselves. EA is not a company that will, at least right now, support any sort of modding or editing of it's product files unless with what's officially provided (aka edit player, etc).

I reckon we should give it a go along with the Next Gen for PC petition. It certainly helps if the petition actually goes to someone that can do something about it which is where a lot of online petitions fail.

yeah you're right, they've cut back on releasing those programs so TW users have to use the old 06 course architect program...but it's really not light modding, it's quite complex

but anyway it's a great idea, and I hope it works out

Meh, I hope you guys give more emphasis on the petition for the next gen graphics for the pc this year rather than wait for another year or so. But if that don't work, i just hope that the mod tools/SDK whatever will compensate for it. GL modders!!

We have to do a huge petition to move something at EA.

I think that considering the things some people do for Live, like making patches and running websites, it would be nice to have something like the Source SDK or Hammer for Live. Especially after the broken game we installed on our systems last year, it would be a way to win some people back certainly.

That's why I suggested a letter like you guys did with the 07 patch petition. It's direct and more formal than an online petition posted on a petition site.

If you are talking about the letter I organized and sent around, it was not really a "direct" and "formal" support to the petition, but instead drew some media attention to the issues with the game basically forcing EA's hand on the patch petition, and certainly in their open self-criticism of Live 07 this year.
