Can't wait to play!!!
Officially downloading demo for PS3 right now. :D

I know they said this game would run 60FPS on the PS3 but after playing, it runs horrible. There was a major slowdown and the graphics look edgy and the colors are dull.

Looks like I'll be getting this for the 360, the colors are way brighter and it runs smoother, only problem is this system dies to much

I played it again on Superstar. I was Spain against France. The cpu AI is very good. I thought there was something wrong when the ball handler was holding the ball until I noticed all the off ball movement of players running through screens and getting open. I actually did better on Superstar then I did on All-Star. I was using the own the paint moves mostly and I notice many times that the cpu did not contend my shot, which is disappointing. I did make a spin move at one point and got called for an offensive foul. I have yet to hit a freethrow.

PG Domination. Tim Duncan didn't even touch the ball. Oberto got two points off a rebound. I will give the game props for their defense. The defense is fantastic, even in the hot zones. When you try a shot in the hot zone, the defense will most likely block the hell out of your shot. I still can't stand the jersey movement. I don't know, the shorts remind me of a samarai robe.

EA's already related a solution to this problem...don't guard the point guard, let the CPU do it.

i played it on my 360, it was cool and all but the game crashes. I have no clue why..but got the ps3 version, and it runs perfectly....

i didnt know you can play FIBA....Must play again..

edit

i forgot to say my impressions, ovl this game is awesome. but the consistency of the analog stick needs a little tweak. Im already using Gibson and Parker and Quickstrike sometimes doesnt work..I drive to one place and try to break the animation and it doesnt work.

NBA LIVE PS3 Demo First Impressions

Fri Sep 07, 2007 3:19 pm

Just downloaded the PS3 demo as hour ago. You are only allowed to play one half consisting on 2 minute quarters. You can only choose Cleveland and Spurs. But scrolling around the available teams, I saw teams representing countries like Argentina, Germany and China. I first noticed small changes made in default control schemes:

1 The Prohop/Power Dribble button has been assigned to Triangle. As is in NBA Live 04. Left analog stick will either prohop the player backwards or forward. Pressing triangle while standing will execute a power dribble

2. As is in NBA Live 04 pressing square will execute both the Dunk and Layups. I guess depending on player ratings and position on the key, the player will either throw it down or scoop it in.

3. Direct passing button has been assigned to R1 so has the Alleyoop. By holding the R1 you execute the direct passing ability where button assignments to each player are indicated. Quickly tapping R1 button will execute an alleyoop.

4. Turbo has been assigned to R2 for some reason. It felt weird coming from previous NBA Live game for PS/PS2

5. Didn't see Superstar moves for L1, instead the Hotspots have been assigned to it. I'm not sure whether the Hotspots change on the fly like during momentum changes and the likes

6. Making a comeback is the Backdown/Post up button assigned to L2. During the animation you can use the Right Analog freestlye stick to create post move shuffles and create space while standing still. Or while backing down (as in moving) you can either spin left or right with the Right Analog Freestyle stick.

Another difference I have found in gameplay is that control of shot release seem gone. So I think EA focused on shot animation to simulate shooting and again when in players Hotspot, the player increases the chances of the making the shot.

I'm not very keen on graphics of this NBA Live. The latest of the series that I played is the 07 for PS2. Of course in HD, everything looks better. You can see the glean of sweat on the players. The crowed looks realistic and animated. Player movement animations have ofcourse been changed. But I'm still adjusting to spatial dimension around the player. I find that they move a bit slower than I expected them to move especially when executing freestlye dribbling. That is of course comparing it to the old generation NBA Lives.

I'm pretty sure that this Demo only scratches the surface of the final game . Until then I'll be trying to accustom myself with the new controls. I'd just wish that they stick on simple control scheme like NBA Live 04 (although they did on some moves)

There are other nuances other people will notice that I didn't but I guess that what the forums are for.

If you´re referring to my post, I was only talking about the commentary. Nothing else.

Can't believe it, finally, this game truly feels great. There will be bugs here and there but damn, EA seems to be back on track. After so many years!!!

Fri Sep 07, 2007 6:26 pm

Ive played it about 8 times at least. The game is very quick, due to only 2 minute quarters and 2 quarters to that. But i think its good, just the dunks look odd, and way fast. I did find the blocks to be a bit frequent, especially with those who arent really shot blockers. Im still working on the shot release, especially on superstar level. But i think it seems really good. Im still waiting to see how 2k8 will be though.

Sat Sep 08, 2007 1:45 am

I still gotta get used to the controls and the dunks like YB said are way too fast.
I am still use to the 2K controls

Sat Sep 08, 2007 3:42 am

This is fucking bullshit! I can't access the demo because i live in Sweden. Is there a way around this? Should i create a Xbox Live account with a US address?

Sat Sep 08, 2007 3:44 am

Can anyone verify whether the PG bug still exists? The "fix" that has been mentioned "let the CPU guard the PG" seems a little shaky.

Sat Sep 08, 2007 3:54 am

does anyone elses lag on the PS3 ?? or even the XBOX 360 for that matter or is this going to be the same thing as Madden?? I get points where it really slows down....

other than that, its much better then Live 07! PG was dominant but then again it is Tony Parker who I played against so who knows.... maybe its just because its Parker

Sat Sep 08, 2007 3:59 am

In the 6 minute video, Parker took 7 shots, Ginobli took 1, and one other player took 1. Tim Duncan never touched the ball, even when Parker was triple teamed in the paint and Duncan was open, Parker ran under the basket and out of bounds on a layup attempt.

The PG domination is still in the game!

What system are you playing it on? Ive been playing it on 360 and dont see any lag. As for pg domination, maybe ill try a cpu vs cpu game and see what happens. Parker taking alot of shots may be due to his high overall rating.

"Parker taking alot of shots may be due to his high overall rating."

Check CLE as well to see if it happens with them, even with LeBron on the team.

Parker is taking a lot of shots despite having Duncan on the team who is taking no shots. So far it looks like PG domination is back. People who have the Demo, please check it.

Sat Sep 08, 2007 5:04 am

Might be because he's being guarded by Daniel Gibson too... And it doesn't seem to be happening with Cleveland, Gibson almost doesn't shoot. So I'm not too worried...

Sat Sep 08, 2007 5:19 am

Im testing a cpu vs cpu game now, on superstar difficulty.

Cavs post ilgauskas, miss
Ginobili drives into the lane, miss layup
Lebron James shoots 3, made
Tony Parker drivin out of bounds via gibsons guarding animation.
Gibson drives 5 foot jumper, miss
Spurs fast break results in ginobili to bowen for a layup, made
Gibson drives, gets stuck, passes it to Big Z, he loses the ball but gets it back, gibson eventually gets it back for a 3 due to shot clock running down, miss
Tony Parker gets the ball stolen, fast breaks ends with Gibson shooting a layup, made
Tony Parker shoots a 3 due to end of quarter, miss

1st quarter score, Cavs 4 - Spurs 2

Spurs post duncan, spins almost out of bounds, throws it to ginobili standing at the 3, pump fakes, runs around defender and does a tear drop shot, made.
Gibson gets it stolen by Parker, fast break results in Parker driving past lebron for an easy layup. *
Hughes goes around a Big Z pick and has a wide open layup, miss
Parker fast break layup, made
Gibosn passes to Big Z for a 20 foot shot, miss
Parker drives, shoots 15 footer, miss
Cavs fast break, lebron gets it poked away via bowen, cavs recover give it to big z who posts up and shoots, made and 1
Big Z makes FT
Parker shoots 3, blocked by Lebron
0.7 sec left parker shoots 3, miss

* This layup fast break reminded me of Live 07, where there would be 1 or more defenders standing in the paint, yet just stand there as the player with the ball drove past them for an easy layup.

lebron should have blocked it instead of a charge lol

good shit, though. looks like the PG's are doing a lot. Parker isnt a shooter yet he shot 3 pointers, whichis still messed up.

Sat Sep 08, 2007 6:12 am

So, is it PG domination bug back this year or is it only EA's mancrush on TP?
Did anyone tried to play with Spurs, does Gibson shoots that much too?
BTW, thanks for posting videos and impressions (Y)

Sat Sep 08, 2007 6:44 am

I have to say that the demo is pretty nice. Much better than last year...but I do have one complaint.

The dunking animations must be fixed for the final release!!
That is too big of a part to not get right.

I am playing it on PS3. Also another point of concern, I noticed at the beginning it says updated rosters for July 15. I hope the final game isnt like that or we'll need a roster update on the first day.
