what does live have that can top 24/7 mode on espn bball?

Postby sho89mtx on Wed Oct 01, 2003 12:47 pm

i was watching and reading about espn nba bball and the new 24/7 feature, and it is incredible. U can play guys from the league one on one and if you beat them u unlock there jersey and get their cell phone number so that u can call them to play with you on a 2 on 2 game, someone please tell me that live has something to compete with this. Man i hope ea at least has horse or something like that to compete with that feature. If they added a dunk contest, it would be over, nba live wins, but i don[t see that happneing. come on live give me something cool like espn has. I'll buy both and play both, just want live to step it up like sega has this year. If you guys remembered last year on almost every site nba2k3 was rated higher and they dogged nba live about how arcadish it felt, so you think ea would step it up this year and try to beat sega this year, but it might look like espn has 1 uped nba live again this year with this feature. what do you guys think?

Who cares?

All that matters is realistic gameplay.

LMAO thats some funny shit man! Your telling me the reason espn is going to be better than live is cause of getting cell phone numbers and getting them to play 2 0n 2 with you? Damn you are easily amused if so!

Realistic gameplay and a detailed multi-season mode (Dynasty Mode) are much better than an extra such as a 2 on 2 mode, which has nothing to do with the real NBA.

well if realistic game play is what you want, we know who won last year at that, nba2k3, so they don't have much to improve on to be the best again this year, hopefully live will be very much improved. U guys act like 1 on 1 against your favorite star at anytime of the day and unlock the rights to their jersey and stuff isn't cool. Oh well, i guess this is an nba live forum and most people in here are biased, but i post in both forums because last year i played both and liked both.

They never said it was 2-on-2 in the video game...

Maybe Sega really did go the extra mile this year...

Sega has never had realistic gameplay...2k1 or whatever was supposed to be far more realistic than live, but you could post up from the three point line with your point guard and then dunk on them, and it was too easy to cross someone up...the gameplay has gotten better, but it's far more arcady than Live. The only reason Live got lower scores was because they dumbed down the gameplay a bit to make it more mainstream to compete with the incredibly arcadey NBA2kx series....oh, and unless their dynasty is actually good, I'll only play Live..

If that feature is the best 2k has to offer then it's gonna be a long year for sega as far as basketball wise. Live has come up with alot of new things that beat out this new sega mode. 10 man freestyle, 2 button shot, pro hop, and more indept dynasty mode to name a few. not to mention the improvements they made on defense.

what does live have that can top 24/7 mode on espn bball?

How bout freestyle? dribble...shooting and 10 man freestyle

How bout an enhanced dynasty mode that lets you control tons of aspects.

How bout sliders?..you can control the game pace and well as tons of other things to suit your fancy.

How bout an nba store where u can unlock tons of "cool stuff"? Brand name shoes...jerseys..you name it.

There are still things that are kept secret according to EA.

I have been extremely brand loyal to Live owning 95' (Sega Genesis), 96' (Sega Genesis + PC), 2000 (PC), and 2003 (PC). But even I must admit that Sega's NBA 2k series has been better especially when you compare Live 03' to 2k3. 2k3 is much more realistic and some of Live's dynasty innovations seem like it was borrowed from 2k3 like showing the actual draft animated and being able to buy coaches. 2k3 also had much better graphics and more realistic gameplay. The only thing I felt Live 03 to be better was the animation, thats it. But being brand loyal as I am I defended Live 03 against an onslaught by my 2k3 owning friends and peers. But it could be very different this year. I have never been this excited about the Live franchise since 95' when it first appeared. The Dynasty mode sounds great and it could be very well be better than 2k4's but I don't know much about 2k4 and how it is being developed so.... The 10 man freestyle looks very intriguing but I still worry about the gameplay. If the Live 04 team come close to matching Live 2000's gameplay I say this game will be very very good in terms of realism. As for this "new" feature in 2k4...sounds great as an extra feature. For those who say they only care about gameplay remember that 2k3 is more realistic than Live 03 so they don't need to leap as many bounds like EA to improve on that. Seriously it sounds like Sega is ready to take on Live 04 and it's upgrades. But I can't really comment on which one WILL be better (2k4 or Live 04) since I don't know much about 2k4. However, I think I can confidently say that from everything I have read and seen about Live 04', it should, no WILL be better than 2k3. Will it be better than 2k4? That is another question but so far the 2k series has been much better than the Live series overall. I will still purchase Live 04 if I can depending on it's system requirements for PC being brand loyal as I am. Plus the benefit of having a PC bball game is the fact that there are incredible modders ready to enchance the experience.

Firstly I think that Live will be better, but just answering to this.

They have introduced a new feature called IsoMotion which is ver similar to Freestyle, there is also focus on deflecting passes according to one review I read.

ESPN Basketball = pwned

How bout sliders?..you can control the game pace and well as tons of other things to suit your fancy.[i]
2k had sliders for a while now I believe.

ESPN Basketball has just been KO'ed by NBA Live 2004. The returning champion in the red corner has won...NBA Live.

Hey ILuvitLive!
The graphics in NBA Live 2003 are much better than those of NBA 2K3. That goes without saying. I believe that you got it wrong there.

i agree totally with i luvitlive

Postby sho89mtx on Thu Oct 02, 2003 12:05 pm

his opinion is almost exactly what i was talking about. The reason i really don't want to go into an argument about what game was better last year is because it's pretty stupid to go into an all nba live forum and argue the nba2k3 is better. that would be like going to an all girl forum and saying boys are smarter :) What i will say is that a lot of you guys need to look past your biases and pull the wool off your eyes if you think live was more realistic than nba2k3 last year. I mean don't even try to give me the argument that it's just my beleif because about 90% of all the reviews comparing the 2 games gave nba2k3 the edge btwn them because of one factor only: the reality factor. Everyone said that nba live was too arcadish. Don't act like this is news to you guys, everyone said it. anyways like him i think both games will be a lot better, especially live this year, but like he said espn doesn't have the much to work on like live does. Ok guys, i'm ready to get the hardcore nba live fan grilling now, so open up on me like always. :)

2k3 was may have been more realistic than Live 03, but it was the most boring basketball game I've ever played.

Screw 2k3! I was so pumped up when i rented that game that day cause my friends were telling me how it blows live away and i freaking hated the game personally! I felt like a robot skating around the court. I'll rent 2k4 for sure but it has to do some seriously changes before id actually buy the game!

havasufalls said it best... If the cool 1-on-1 -> 2-on-2 feature is the best that 2k series has come up with, well they ain't gonna survive this year... EA has done the dirty work this year and really boosted their product.

And don't come saying that 2k3 was so much better then Live 2003 before you can get 2k series for the king of gaming aka the PC! The PC is the only way to go and the only platform that these games should be rated on.

It all begun with the PC and it will all end with it as well. The consoles come and go, but PC is for life... A console has a short period of time when it is something new and spectacular and then in just a few months in, well you can see it is old and has poor performance compared to a PC.

I know there are lots of console gamers on these forums, but the fact is. In a couple of years you'll be all talking about how poor the graphics are with PS2 and X-Box... And moan and whine about the fact that why can't we get an upgrade, like the computer players can...

ESPN should bring their game to the big leagues (also known as PC) and then we can really compare the two... Before that, all this battling is a joke. It really doesn't matter who or what does better in what. All I know is that Live comes for the PC and there are no other options, and that's it case closed, NBA Live wins it every year!

(note that there might be some sarcastic comments in this post, but the bottom line is pretty clear in my mind... so don't get all worked up because of this post)
