I think I was a little too scared of Gasol going off in the post so I doubled constantly with my SF and SGs, which allowed Miller and Gay to hit shots. It also didn't help considering that Miller and Gay are both tall as hell and just shoot over everything.

By the way, Memphis lost to Phoenix, Atlanta and Golden State. Not exactly "tough".

Nice screen of Miller faking past Webster. I know what you mean about taller defenders being able to block nearly everything a shorter player shoots. That annoyed me quite a lot in '05. Ironic how you have Miles, who I remember used to get like 10 blocks whenever I played against him.

Yeah, Miles is kind of abusive, but I tend to let the A.I. control Miles and I mostly control everyone else to avoid that problem.

Tough loss, individually most of your main guys played pretty well.

Yeah it was one of those losses that you can only blame the computer on... Definitely not the way I'd like my team to go out.

Thanks a lot man, I also had the problem of dragging on my recaps. It was a lot of work and it made the dynasty kind of boring I think, so now for every game I write down key parts and themes for my recaps and then work with that in the shortest amount of words as possible.

Imagine Andre Miller with a jumpshot! that would be something! I'm still pissed the clippers traded Miles for Miller and he hasn't done ish since that one year with the cavs.

The New Centre of Attention
Channing Frye Emerging as the Go-To Man in the Middle

Blazer fans might have felt a sigh of relief after they sent away troubled all-star Zach Randolph to New York, but at the same time a sense of panic must have came over them when they realized that they had just lost 20 points and 10 rebounds on a nightly basis. Instead, they recieved a few role players that did not come close to attracting the attention that Randolph created against opposing teams. At least that's what most people initially thought.

Quentin Richardson has undoubtedly been carrying the team on offence. Sophomore Brandon Roy has become the playmaker, setting up teammates and making sure the Blazers are a well-oiled offensive machine. If there was one thing that the Blazers lacked, it was an anchor on the inside; an interior presence that could shift the defence with a simple call for the ball in the post. Al Horford is still learning many aspects of an NBA game to command too much attention in the post and LaMarcus Aldridge's play has regressed from last year. It seemed as if Zach's shoes are too big to fill for just one player, but in the past few games, those worries seem to be growing more faint by each game being played.

Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce your All-Star centre in the near future, Channing Frye.

'Mediocre' is a pretty good word to describe Frye's first 8 games in comparison to his last 5 games in a Blazer uniform, scoring just a shade over 9 points per game. Frye played with a tenative attitude, a criticism that has haunted him from the day that he was drafted by New York. Frye is, after all, only 24 years of age in his third year in the NBA and adjusting to a brand new team so early in his career might have affected the friendly giant's confidence. "He came in a very determined hard worker," recalled Blazer assistant coach Monty Williams. "But he also played too cautiously and wasn't himself. He just wasn't used to playing in a different atmosphere from New York." Channing Frye agreed with what Williams had said.

"I had come off a disappointing year last season with the Knicks," said Frye. "I was very eager to prove myself to Portland, maybe too eager." Frye began to realize that his way of thinking on the basketball court in New York would not work. "I then thought to myself, 'well what if they don't like it when I do this' or 'what if they don't like it if I play that way', that sort of stuck on my mind for the first few games of the season," continued Frye. "It took some time for it to click in my head and realize that I shouldn't be thinking that way. That was the old way of thinking that got me my disappointing season last year in the first place. I just need to stop focusing on my new surroundings and get back to playing old fashioned basketball."

Frye began his promising play when Al Horford went down with an ankle injury allowing him to move to the centre position, a move that Nate McMillan wasn't sure would have a great deal of impact on the young big man. "Although LaMarcus and Al both rotate with Frye in the centre and power foward position, I think that Frye just needed a change up to get his game going again and make the transition from last year to this year much smoother."

It seemed as if there wasn't need for a transition at all. Frye came up big in the Blazers' win against Washington, breaking out immediately for a season high 21 points and 12 rebounds. Frye quickly proved that it wasn't a fluke either, leading the team to a 4-1 record since starting at centre and has been averaging 18 points, 11 rebounds and 2 and a half blocks in those 5 games. Frye has been efficient has ever, also shooting 63% from the field during that span. The critics that have labelled him soft throughout the years seem to be shutting up after watching Frye and his new found confidence bull through opposing centres for a layup in the paint or use his finesse and quickness to swerve his way around players for an easy hoop.

Frye points out that he's not willing to settle for having a few good games. "I want to show that I can consistently put up these numbers," he said. The league is also starting to take notice of Frye and he's beginning to attract a lot of attention from opposing teams. "Im starting to get more attention in the paint. Teams are playing me tighter at the high post because they know that I can shoot it and are also being a lot more physical. This is just going to make me work even harder to get to the next level."

Pau Gasol, Memphis' All-Star power foward/centre sung high praises for Frye, who demolished Gasol on both ends of the court, dropping 20-12 on him while also holding him to 4 of 12 shooting. "He's getting better and better," Gasol said. "He's already playing at an all-star level. If his team starts to go to him more often in the post, he'd definitely put up much better numbers."

Chris Bosh, the Raptors' star centre, also gave props to Frye. "He's a fighter out there on the court. If he can continue to put up these kind of numbers he'll be a scary player in league."

With only 2 more games left in December, 1 in January and 2 more in Febuary, Frye is planning to use these games to catapult him to becoming an All-Star. "It's a bit of a long shot considering there are a lot of talented big men in the West, but I want to be an All-Star," Frye proclaimed. "I probably won't make it this year, but that's my goal down the road."

Even though the odds are against him this year, with the way that he's playing, Channing Frye looks like he'll be in many All-Star games in years to come.

Yeah! Tall point guards are definitely fun matchup nightmares to watch in real life and in Live. Roy isn't really a point guard, but I just have so much fun abusing his height and passing skills against other teams.

It was fun abusing T.J. Ford out there. He's what? 5'11 and I'm 6'6? Everytime I backed him in the post it was an automatic foul. Too bad I was pretty lazy when it came to making my free throws (6/10) or else he would've had a 20 point night.

Although D-Miles is an utter jack ass as an NBA player, I kind of feel sorry for him. I'm kind of a Miles fan but I'm too ashamed to admit it.

I'm crossing my fingers for Frye, but I think the honor to be an all-star won't happen to him this year. Hopefully you can develop him to a, like Bosh said, scary player, and a 09 AS.

I do also like the movement of Roy to the point, with his size advantage he sure blocks lots of shots, especially in Live '05

just had a quick peak, didn't read, just skimmed, but from what I saw, this is an impressive dynasty....it's kinda got that old school feel to it (not just because you're using the great Live '05) that I haven't seen since yesteryear....keep up the good work

Blazers Blow Out Hornets But Struggle to Close Out Game

With the 12 point lead and with only 5 minutes remaining, you would think that the Portland Trail Blazers would have an easy victory. The Hornets' front court of Tyson Chandler and David West had other ideas.

The Blazers led by as many as 20 points during the game, but Nate McMillan allowed the confidence of his team get the best of them, which allowed the New Orleans Hornets to make a furious run to chip the lead to only 4 points. "We should not have let them come back into the game," said Nate McMillan as he shook his head. "This is why they say you're supposed to play basketball for all four quarters. Our team only played 3 and half and we almost lost this game because of that."

The Hornets were without starting small foward Desmond Mason and was replaced by seldom-used rookie Reyshawn Terry. Terry was dominated from the get-go, allowing Quentin Richardson to score 10 points in the opening quarter but was spared from further embarassment after Richardson picked up 3 quick fouls and would spend most of the game in foul trouble. Q's hot start fuelled the Blazers to build up an immediate double digit lead; something they would not relinquish until the waning moments of the fourth quarter.

Holding an 80-68 lead with 5:13 remaining in the fourth quarter and coming off a third quarter where Portland held the Hornets to only 16 points and 23% shooting, Nate McMillan felt confident enough to take off his starters and empty out his bench. This proved disastrous for Portland, as Tyson Chandler manhandelled Joel Pryzbilla on the inside by scoring 8 points along with 8 rebounds (5 on the offensive end) in the fourth quarter alone. "They looked down on us all game," spoke Chandler after the game. "We just showed them that we're not a push-overs that give up easy."

By now, Nate McMillan had put back on his starters who were clinging on to a lead for their dear lives. David West took advantage of the panic-induced Blazers as he reeled off 6 straight points to make the game 97-93 for Portland with only 21 seconds left. Luckily, Peja Stojakovic missed a three pointer and the Blazers would hold on for an unpleasant win.

The Portland Trail Blazers were not hoping to repeat last game's last minute melt down against New Orleans. Ex-Knicks Channing Frye and Quentin Richardson wouldn't allow it happen again.

Portland visited Madison Square Garden for their first and only game against the New York Knicks after they had traded away Zach Randolph, Sergio Rodriguez and Brandon Rush for Quentin Richardson, Channing Frye and Mardy Collins. Channing Frye had a 20 point, 8 rebound performance while Quentin Richardson played agressively with a chip on his shoulder all game long, scoring 17 points and tallied an impressive 13 rebounds. "I just wanted to show them that they missed out on a lot when they traded me away," grinned Richardson.

Much like the Hornets game, the Blazers dominated the game from the get-go, with Al Horford opening the game with a rim rocking dunk over Randolph. Portland would continue to stretch the lead throughout the game thanks to poor play from virtually every Knick besides Curry and Randolph, who each scored only 14 and 12 points and were the only ones to shoot over 30% for the game. The Newest Knick Andrei Kirilenko would score a team-high 21 points but played with a trigger happy demeanor as he made only 10 of his 32 attempts from the field. "We played terrible from the opening tip and it showed," said Ex-Blazer Zach Randolph. "We could have won this game but everyone was too worried about their own shots."

Nate McMillan also used most of his bench for the game, but this time they did not disappoint as they played with a renewed sense of purpose, clamping down hard on defence which allowed New York only 17 points in the final quarter. "We got an earful by coach after the Hornets game," Dorell Wright had said. Wright had only recently began seeing playing time off the bench due to his hustle and defensive abilities. "We knew that we shouldn't have played the way we did last game and everyone did a good job of playing the way that coach expects out of us, which is playing with solid defence."

"We've got a deep bench, but a lot of them aren't really scorers. Q, Frye, Miles and Roy are usually the ones who get us most of our points," said Nate McMillan. "I think that our bench's strength is their defence, which they didn't commit to last game because they were so eager trying to fill up the score sheet, but I'm proud of the way that they responded today."

I doubt Frye will be an All-Star this year as well. I just wanted to put out there that he's been a consistent 20-10 guy for me. He's only averaging around 13-10 because of his crappy start to the season anyway.

it was probably my Live '05 Bobcats' dynasty that you were referring to....shame they didn't have the dynasty forums all together like they do now, otherwise I probably would've continued it

Channing Frye - A
With Portland going 5-1 this month, much of the credit has to go out to Channing Frye. Frye has doubled his scoring from last month and has been eating up opposing centres with his outside-inside game while also becoming a steady force on the boards. Frye's shot blocking has also been turned up a notch, but defensively Frye needs to shut down and box out opposing big men more often. There's not much else to comment on Frye because he's been playing so well and so efficiently, but expectations for Frye shouldn't be raised too high. Horford and Aldridge are always nipping at the heels of Frye and could just as easily go off as Frye did.

Joel Przybilla - D
Pryzbilla was probably activated recently in an attempt to salvage some sort of value for him on the market. Pryzbilla got garbage minutes in the Blazers' blow out win against New York, but if he continues to put up similar numbers in the limited minutes he's given, Frye, Horford and Aldridge might have a minute or two shaved off from each of them to make room for Pryzbilla.

Pape Sow - C
Sow was on the active roster for the first half of the month, but has played in only 2 games and has been placed in the inactive list for the past two games. Sow showed some very good hustle and agility inside the painted area, but he just hasn't had the time or touches to make very good use of them.

Power Fowards

LaMarcus Aldridge - C-
Aldridge continues to rebound well off the bench, but he just hasn't been getting the touches on the inside. Aldridge seems to be the third option for offence out of Frye and Horford and his confidence seems to have wavered because of that. There have been countless times during a game where Aldridge would allow his opponents to smother him when he's on offence and simply not fight back or call for the ball. Aldridge has just as much potential as the other core big men, if not more, but if this keeps up don't be suprised if Portland decides to keep Frye and Horford and Aldridge has his bags packing to a different team.
Line of the Month - 9 pts, 13 rebs (7 off), 4/8 FG @ New Orleans

Al Horford - B+
Despite missing the first two games of December, Horford didn't seem to be bothered by his ankle as he posted a solid 12 and 9 in his return to the lineup. Horford also posted back to back double doubles against Toronto and New Orleans, but what probably catches most people's attention was Horford's statline against the Hornets; 10 points, 12 rebounds and a team-high 6 assists (the under the legs bounce pass that absolutely humiliated Peja Stojakovic automatically comes to mind). Horford was touted as an above average post passer, but he has been really seeing the court well for someone his size, averaging around 3 and a half assists per contest since his return.
Line of the Month - 19 pts, 12 rebs, 3 asts @ Toronto

Small Fowards

Quentin Richardson - A
Q has continued to be an exellent model of a Blazer deserving an 'A' on his report card. Richardson consistently brings around 15-20 points a night and around 5 rebounds and 2-3 assists. There's not much more we can ask of Richardson except maybe bump up his free throw shooting from 65% considering that he draws a nice amount of trips to the line. There's also a growing trend beginning to be seen in Richardson's game. When he's shooting efficiently from the field (higher than 50%), his three point attempts go down. When Q starts to settle for threes, his field goal percentage dips to around the low 40 percentile. It would be tough to get his three pointer attempts down though, since he and Webster are the only legit scorers from beyond the arc.
Line of the Month - 17 pts, 14 rebs, 3 asts, 1 blk @ New York

Martell Webster - B
After a poor start to the month shooting-wise against Utah, Webster has been knocking down outside jumpers like no one's business. Webster doesn't attempt a lot of shots, but you can tell that he's really buckled down on his shot selection and doesn't just hoist up random shots like he did last month. Webster still continues to unimpress with the other areas of his game as his rebounding and passing aren't really that consistent thus far. It also wouldn't hurt to see Webster tone down the amount of attempts from outisde of 18 feet and use that NBA body of his to draw a few fouls every now and then.
Line of the Month - 15 pts, 3 stls, 3/5 3pt FG vs Memphis

Darius Miles - A-
Miles came back from injury this month and has been an all-around stat-stuffer, giving the team a a steady line of points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks. Miles also would occasionally explode offensively, with his 31 point performance in Dallas being a good example. Miles field goal percentage has also been killer lately; he hasn't shot below 50% in any of the games he played this month, which is a good sign indicating that Miles is finally developing that perimeter 'J' that his coaches have so desperately longed for him to develop. One thing that is a bit troublesome for Miles though is his turnovers. No other player on the team has turned the ball over more than Miles, and his 31 point game could be taken with a grain of salt as he also finished the game with 6 turnovers.
Line of the Month - 25 pts, 4 rebs, 4 asts, 4 blks, 2/3 3pt FG @ New York

Dorell Wright - B-
Nate McMillan probably suprised a lot of people when he made a slight change in his substitution pattern in a game against Dallas when he sent Dorell Wright out on the court. Being used for the first time by Portland, Wright didn't disappoint as he immediately drove to the basket for a trip to the line on the very first play on offence. Wright doesn't see a lot of time or touches on offence with Webster firmly entrenched in the sixth man role, but Wright does get the crowd amped with his hard-nosed energetic defence that has made even Coach McMillan a believer. Wright's hungry for minutes, but at this time most are content to simply see the young man get some PT and NBA experience.
Line of the Month - 9 pts, 2 rebs, 4/7 FG vs Dallas

Shooting Guards

Brandon Roy - A-

If you overlook Roy's stinker against Dallas, you'll find that Roy has really taken a liking to the point guard position. He has led the team in assists in every game except for a win against the Hornets, but that was mainly due to the fact that he did not recieve a substantial amount of playing time for long stretches of the game. Roy has also established himself as the team's free throw specialist, drawing countless amounts of trips to the charity stripe from opposing guards who can't seem to stop Roy unless they send the 84% foul shooter to the line.
Line of the Month - 20 pts, 5 rebs, 4 asts, 7/7 FT @ New Orleans

C.J. Miles - D
Miles has only played in 3 out of the 6 games this month. Miles usually got minutes due to his ability to float around the three backcourt positions, but with Jack coming off the bench and Dorell Wright quickly becoming a favourite of McMillan, Miles finds himself once again out of the rotation.

Point Guards

Jarrett Jack - F
After being regulated to back up duty, Jack has still yet to find any sort of rhythm. He has scored 5 points over 6 games.

Mardy Collins - (?)
Collins tallied 3 minutes in a win against New Orleans, but Collins' poor play at the point didn't help, especially considering that the bench warmers of the team took most of the heat for nearly losing a 20 point lead.

That was Frye's sophomore year I believe. Frye has probably had his shot blocked less times than he's given someone a nasty facial. The guy has thrown down some nasty ones before, trust me.

it was probably my Live '05 Bobcats' dynasty that you were referring to....shame they didn't have the dynasty forums all together like they do now, otherwise I probably would've continued it

probably won't be a Live '08 from me....I might get the game on PS3 if it is good, but I doubt I'll have the time inbetween studies & prep for my wedding in March....

Oh yeah, I was thinking it would be Charlotte (and for some odd reason I was leaning towards the possibility that it was a Portland dynasty ). That thing had amazing longevity to it.

Damn, its a shame that you actually have a life now... Reality has once again taken away another good dynasty-er.

I agree with everything you've said about frye and lamarcus too. I think everybody thinks lamarcus has the most skill and potential, but noting, absolutely nothing can replace hard work and dedication.

Instead of trading for peitrus, I should have figured out a way to get frye and roy!

2 - even though you gave him an 'A-' i wouldn't mind seeing Darius 'Fumblefingers' Miles part ways with your Blazers; i could see him and Jack packaged up for a decent promising backup PG or something, especially with Wright doing well; anyway, just brainstorming

I think LaMarcus is a hard worker, its just that he's in a slump right now. I think a couple of easy baskets here and there should help help him get back to his old 8-10 self soon enough.

Its funny you mention trading for Roy and Frye, because when you traded for Monta Ellis I thought to myself 'Damn, Monta Ellis is one of my favourite up and comers in the league why didn't I trade for this guy!'

I'm kind of 50/50 on trading Miles. On one hand, he does literally everything on the court for my team a la Scottie Pippen, but at the same time there are some players that I really want to get that aren't possible to get without shipping away Miles. We'll see soon enough, I'm spending a lot of time formulating different trade scenarios at the moment. Jack and Pryz are probably my top priority, and if I'm lucky I can unload Raef's monster contract too. If I can find the right deal that I like, I'm not hesistant to make any trade.

The only untouchables so far are Roy, Horford and Frye if he continues to put up around 20 points a night.

Thanks dude, Frye is a pretty good rebounder/shotblocker in the game due to his height, and he gets off his jumper pretty well over big guys because of his height too. I sort of underutilized him the first month of the season, but I guess that's because I was getting back into playing Live and I was still experimenting with players and such.

All in all, Frye's really to generate offence off of, and if you play your cards right he'll dominate the defensive end as well.

Hah, I vaguely remember you trading Pietrus or something to Portland or something like that, I guess that's why it always stuck in my head.

Yeah the stat-line of the month gets pretty tedious to do because you're just browsing back and forth between boxscores and you're always trying to compare whether or not so and so had a better game in game 4 or game 5... But yeah, I still like doing it even if it gets tiring on the eyes.

I'm just glad the worst is over... The first month I played 9 games, this month 6. January I play one, Febuary I play 2, then I play 7 again and then four, so I'm planning on smushing January and Febuary together and then recap the all-star festivities.
