Sounds like its the PS3 that is causing the delay. Its been reported that the PS3 version is well behind the 360 version in production. This is from the ps3 being hard to develope games one. So they cant release the game until both versions are done, and the PS3 version is having framerate issues just like it has with other games. Nice, and i thought PS3 was supposed to be full of power that the 360 couldnt match.

Damn Sony.

Okay, so I want to make mods for San Andreas (Dahl), and found out that it's even more complicated than modding/patching NBA Live.

I've downloaded mods before for Vice City and GTA III, and comparing the mods from those games to SA, they are different. You need some tool to put your mod in, which just confuses me.

You need the IMG Tool. It's not too difficult. There are also a couple of tutorials!

Once you replace the models/textures in the IMG file, you can't revert back, right?

just back it up, i used to do it with gta3 all the time

This really sucks, but i would rather have a finished game then one with glitches, or whatever they havent finished/polished up yet. Plus im going to have Halo 3, Skate, Smackdown vs raw 2008, Madden 08, and assassins creed to hold me over.

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

I was crushed after hearing this, I was so pumped for it but I guess it's better than having a glitchy, bad framerate. Some sites says it was the PS3's architecture that held it back, some say it was the 360 and it's lack of a guaranteed HDD, but it's most likely abit of both. There was an article I read about 3 weeks ago about a little 5 min demo they did on the 360 version and it had alot of framerate issues too so I doubt it's just the PS3's fault. If the 360 version was all done and ready to go, I'm sure Microsoft would be willing to pay another $50 mill to have GTA be released 5 months before the PS3 version, or any version for that matter.

Oh damn this is quite a delay...

Son of a didley....ugh, that means it will make it to PC only in Fall of 08 :(

To be honest, I've been feeling slightly less enthused about GTA IV, not the point where I'm not interested in getting the game but I am wondering if some the changes truly are for the better. I appreciate the move towards a darker, more realistic game but I'm still concerned that it might eliminate some classic elements of GTA that have made the series so successful and enjoyable.

I'm also wondering if some of the elements like the game's representation of the Internet complete with dating services and job interviews is going to result in side missions that are almost essential. I like side missions and all but I wasn't too fond of gaining territory or empire building in recent games. I think that's why I enjoyed LCS so much; although there were fun side missions and exploring the city could help out on the story missions, it was possible to advance through the game and let the story unfold without having to worry about losing territory or a business. On one hand I like the depth of games like San Andreas and VCS but on the other hand it can be a bit of a chore.

The lack of pickups is also a bit of a concern. I hope the tradeoff for this is that the missions will not require you to stock up on a ridiculous amount of ammo or make it needlessly difficult to acquire better weapons that in past games have been stashed away in certain places around the city, rewarding exploration with better firepower. The same goes for recovering health through eating and sleeping. It'll be a new challenge and in that respect it's interesting but I just hope it doesn't result in a game that's challenging because the user is at such a disadvantage that it borders on being unfair.

Having said that, I'll still be getting GTA IV. I just hope that in their new approach, Rockstar haven't forgotten some of the things that have made the series so far as fun as it has been.

That's what I'm afraid of. Don't take away the things that are a part of GTA. It's why I like the series so much.

Thu Aug 30, 2007 11:04 am

what is their new approach?

Thu Aug 30, 2007 12:05 pm

They're aiming for as much realism as possible, eliminating health pickups (and presumably weapon pickups as well) and other "video game" elements. The game also looks like it might be darker than other games which as we all know had their fair share of risque humour.

Thu Aug 30, 2007 1:42 pm

That'd be awesome, maybe a few bullets will kill him, or maybe if his health is below 33, he'll bleed, and on the monitor we can see him feeling all dizzy, as he needs to get to a hospital or something. Realism is always good in ma book.

Thu Aug 30, 2007 2:38 pm

Only if it's balanced though. For example, if it's more difficult to get weapons then it shouldn't take an unrealistic amount of ammo to complete an objective/mission.

Thu Aug 30, 2007 6:56 pm

im sure theyll consider that if they want to keep it realistic, still, its gonna be one hell of a game

Thu Aug 30, 2007 9:50 pm

I'm sure it will be but if they leave out some of the elements that have made the previous games so entertaining (especially in terms of the humour) I'll be a bit disappointed. Likewise, I'm sure I'll find the game very frustrating if there's no balance to the realism they're striving for this time around.

Fri Aug 31, 2007 6:03 am

Yeah I agree, enemies should die from 1-2 wounds for sure, if Niko gets hit like 3-4 times he dies too.

Fri Aug 31, 2007 7:47 am

I wish they'd divide the bodies into areas of impact. So if you shoot them in the most vital parts, they would die from only one or two shot. While if you shoot them in a less vital part, say a foot, it would take a lot more to bring them down. Hell, it could even introduce limping, localised bleeding and stuff like that. If done right, I think it would be really nice.

Hey I'm playing San Andreas 1.01 on the PC and heard something about a petrol mod, which adds to each car that you ride a petrol (or fuel) bar which decreases in time and you have to go to a Service Station to refuel your car.

I found this but the only way to make it work is to star a new game, and I don't want to lose my savegame, anyone heard of a way around this??

Thanks in advance!!

APB.

Why would you even want that in a video game? I can already see it now, im 3 blocks away from beating this hard ass mission....NOOO my car ran out of gas!!!!! If that was in a real GTA game that would suck!

Fri Aug 31, 2007 2:01 pm

It would add some realism to the game, just fill your tank before going on a mission. But anyway if it isn't possible I don't care much, it's not that important (my savegame is waay more).

Thanks anyway

they should bring back the farting and burping from the first GTAs

On one hand that's kind of a cool idea but at the same time I think it's too much realism. As I said before, to me the GTA games are kind of like an over-the-top action movie or television series that is set in the real world but contains elements that push the bounds of reality, ignoring smaller details like filling the car up with petrol or having the character sleep or use the toilet. Like a movie or television show, these things are assumed but only shown if it somehow relates to the plot (or serves a joke).
