Microsoft is Successful once again

Well, as you know I posted one other topic about a Microsoft product. I like Microsoft and am very pleased with Windows Vista. Just thought I'd like to share that Microsoft has sold more Windows Vista in 5 weeks than there are Apple computers overall. It's insane to even think about that. Just thought I'd share even though there will be plenty of people Microsoft bashing like the norm.

To me Vista isnt half bad, its just too early to be used by non-tech-savvy people. UAC is bollocks.

The same things people are complaining about with vista were complained when they introduced windows 3.1, then 95, then 98, then XP. Stop bitching and just accept that technology is *gasp* moving forward. Move forward your thinking with it.

Those of you complaining about the cost of upgrading need to can it too, since you can build a solid Vista Aero machine for 500 bucks. Not top end technology mind you, but sufficient nonetheless. And anyone out there that cant budget 500 beans into a 3 or 4 months span of saving, shouldnt be worried about their next computer upgrade anyway.No offense intended, but thats the truth.

I'm glad. The more people that have the OS, the quicker the bugs and flaws will be found so that they can be improved by Microsoft and 3rd party software companies. I'll probably be upgrading somewhere inbetween the end of this year and next summer, so I can save up enough to buy a vista-ready set of components for about a 1000. I try not to go top of the line, ever, but I do want a DX10 video card. Gotta play BioShock and Crysis in all their glory.

Technically they should. Because the whole reason why I bought a new laptop was to get Windows Vista. So in my mind, it made more sense instead of upgrading to buy a brand new computer since I was saving the money for all of this.

I think so too. You kinda made it sound like people were running out to specifically buy vista - by itself, and that number of people outweighed the entire Mac-using population. That my friend, falls under preposterous.

I just figured the point needed to be made. Another point to consider, plenty of the people that bought vista packaged with the new machine have either setup a dual boot so they can still use xp, or just reformatted and ditched vista entirely. Not really a wise idea IMO, but its still happening regularly.

ehm, personally, i will stick with a stable xp on bootcamp for the occasional game coupled with a stable mac osx for job related things - over what seems to be a very buggy vista which fundementally is a bad clone of mac osx tiger.... which is about to be replaced with leopard.

I am happy that windows is still more prevalent though, and hope that it is for as long as i'm living so that all the viruses congregate their instead!

funny, the way i see it, windows users are like the top 100 popular music listeners, osx users are the slightly elitist indie rock listeners, and above that are the linux users, the snooty experimental/conceptual music listeners. none are "right," so like what you like.

Microsoft is all about marketing. Of course they're still going to be in the majority of machines. Of course people have no choice but to buy computers with Vista pre-installed.

I tried Vista, and from a design user interface perspective, they add too many bells and whistles that don't actually add anything to usability and accessibility. Personally, XP is better. OS X is far and wide better once you get to know how to use OS X. I've seen my productivity double on more than one occasion on OS X over XP.

Exactly, hopefully Microsoft, ATI/Nvidia and all the games developers will do a good job at fixing stuff faster and more efficiently with more people switching to Vista. Had to wait 4-5 fucking months to get Creative drivers that work...
I'm almost done upgrading my system and I can't wait to see how Crysis/Bioshock/COD4 will look on it afterwards...
I had to replace pretty much every component though, costly as shit to keep up with Vista and today's games (well, tomorrow's)

I actually held off to build a brand new rig, The only thing I have right now is my Zalman 9700, My case, Cooler Master Mystyque Case, and a bunch of Scythe case fans lol.

Although i dislike the 128-bit bus, I'm loving that it needs no extra power plug, and the 65nm chip means low-power consumption and less heat. So when crossfire them, Ill still be looking at less power draw and heat than the 8800 GTS. Once the 2900xt gets into the 65nm die, I'll switch again.

Exactly. Meaning, you can right click, but you can't tell if there's two buttons or one by just looking at it.

Always wondered what those side buttons are for, though. I heard you can set them to your preferences (ie. right-side-button opens Dashboard, left-side-button opens Exposé, etc.) but what do they do by default?

Actually if you squeeze the side buttons, you can assign a function. By pushing down on the trackball, you can trigger another function. So how I have it set now is at 2 buttons, the middle button to trigger Dashboard, and the sides to trigger Exposé. So a total of 4 functions.
