As a current PSP owner, and probably one of the few that believes in the PSP>DS, I'm quite excited for it. I'll most likely sell my old PSP and buy the new one.

I don't use my PSP much anymore, but even if some new games or something came out, I wouldn't get the new one unlesss i lost/broke my current one, just for the homebrew and the fact it can boot isos.
Not a big redesign, and I don't think it was really needed all that needed, but slimer is nice and video output is cool, not to mention better battery life which is a must. Kind dissapointed theres no second analog stick though.

The possibility of bricking the system makes me hesistant on doing the iso stuff. But late 2007 and early 2008 is gonna be good time for the PSP, with popular games like Smackdown, Monster Hunter 2, Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core and Gran Turismo mobile that's sure to boost sales of the consoles.
I think the possibility of a second analog stick is not gonna be available until PSP II.

Warez talk =
I'm not sure if I would actually use a PSP - I don't find myself in many situations where I'm out somewhere with nothing else to do. Might be fun though.

Well, PSP Slim will load games faster, allows you to USB charge, and the battery life is apparently doubled.

I also heard you can use a video out to play games on the tv. I had a psp for a month or so when liberty city stories came out. When it was announced that LCS would come to the PS2 i sold it right away. Not many exclusive games for it, lot of games are ports, and i hated the controls on the thing. The analog stick was in an odd place, and the Dpad was pretty stiff. Sure PS2 graphics on a handheld is impressive, but do yourself a favor and get a DS lite if you want to buy a good handheld system. I wonder how long it will take to Port the PSP god of war game over to PS2. 6 months?

I'm pretty sure it won't load games faster. The CPU will be overclocked to 333 mhz but the old psp will also be overclocked to 333mhz in a firmware update so definately won't load games faster. (And if not in a official firmware update you can already change CPU speed in a Custom Firmware)
It's slimmer, has video output, longer battery life, and has new Memory stick slot and UMD slot, can charge through USB, and has 64mb of Flash memory instead of 32mb on the older PSP. The last one i think is huge because that just allows for more stuff to be added in a firmware update. I'm also guessing that it will have the 4th brightness level unlocked since the batteries been improved.

Gamespot wrote:Sony was able to slim down the battery size while maintaining the system's 5-hour battery life by decreasing the power draw of the unit. You'll be able to use old batteries from the original PSP to double playing time, but the standard battery cover won't be able to fit over it. Sony will offer a high-capacity power kit that will come with its own PSP cover to fit over the larger battery.
Which means the old battery would stick out like a mole on a Mii. And since the battery placement on the PSP is placed where users are placing their hands, that's gotta be uncomfortable.Sure PS2 graphics on a handheld is impressive, but do yourself a favor and get a DS lite if you want to buy a good handheld system. I got a DS Lite after my friends convinced me to do so, and it's fun for multiplayer games for a while, but in the end, I still prefer the PSP over the DS. Apparently, the God of War 2.5 for the PSP will remain a PSP exclusive (a port to the PS3 as a PS2 title, like Tekken DR available as an online purchase), since at this point, I'm sure Sony would want to direct the focus of consumers to PS3 and the PSP.

They also said Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories would be PSP exclusive games. They changed their mind twice 6 months later for each game. Im guessing 6 months after the PSP god of war game comes out they will announce it being a downloadable game on PS3 or sell it as a PS2 port. Lets face it, alot of people like God of war, much like myself, but im not going to buy a psp to play it. They lose alot of game sales having it exclusive to their PSP.

I currently own the PSP but I am having trouible justifying in my mind why I should buy the new one if I don't like any of the games for the PSP. The one I have now should do. Just shows how desperate Sony is becoming in the gaming industry

they think becuase Slim PS2 sold well that if they did the same thing with the PSP it will sell well. but the thing is PS2 was a great console, PSP isnt really a good handheld.

I think it has the potential to be great! That's if they actually come out with some good games. So far I havent found a single game for PSP that I liked. I like the graphics, the way it looks, etc. Basically all the external features and capabilities but the games just flat out suck.

CPU irrelevant, extra RAM relevant...
the God of War 2.5 for the PSP
More like "God of War 0"

More importantly than simply being "uncomfortable"...it would burn your hand...which, would also be uncomfortable actually...

The memory they're adding is not used in the same way as ram is. The memory they're adding is just flash memory that holds all the system files and OS files. Trust me I've dumped my 32mb flash from my psp and it's currently at like 23mb, which means if they wanted to add some new feature like wireless TV on the psp (which is coming out in Japan and only for the new redesigned psp) and some other new feature, they'd pretty much have the 32mb flash full, meaning they couldn't add anymore new features until they deleted older features.
And overclocking the cpu to 333 mhz does make a difference in everything you do. I can change the cpu speed on my psp via homebrew, and once its overclocked to 333mhz everything is smoother. From album art loading in the xmb, to saved game file pictures loading in xmb, to load screens in game, and to online play in games and normal single player mode. Also if you want to play music off your mem stick while playing a game (homebrew sweet eh) you need to overclock or else the games runs really slow and choppy. so yea 333mhz makes a difference, thats why the Devs for God of War Chains of Olympus have already confirmed that the game will make use of Sony officially making the psp run at 333mhz in a firmware update.

Um...I think you're mistaken on what I'm saying. Yeah, a faster CPU does have a major effect on everything you mentioned, except loading off the UMDs. The CPU can't do anything with UMD data until that UMD data is in the RAM.
Also, the PSP only HAS one type of non-embedded RAM. Since it would longer to stream straight to the embedded RAMs, you load to the RAM, and then to the processors. With the RAM doubled, you could cache much more from the UMD in it. It also sounds like they redesigned the UMD drive itself, so it may be more efficient at loading data into the RAM. I doubt it has very much cache RAM.
I assume if you loaded your RAM up to around 30-32MB, the load times in games would increase. Because there's 6MB of embedded RAM, so they're likely caching up to that amount in the regular RAM.
