how ironic

These guys don't have material money: All their money is on their companies. That way, if Microsoft's market rises just a bit, Bill Gates will rise with it.

That article doesn't really tell me what Mr. Slim does, but I found more of what this guy does:
is empire includes a budget airline, Volaris, a cigarette company, Cigatam, a music retailer, MixUp, and an internet service provider, Prodigy.
But the key to his success was snatching control of Mexico's dominant telecoms operator, Telmex, when the service was privatised in 1990. Telmex accounts for nine out of 10 landlines in Mexico and experts say Mr Slim has been vigorous in protecting this near monopoly.
George Grayson, a Mexico specialist at Virginia's College of William and Mary, said: "This is why everybody old enough to grow a moustache, and many people who aren't, owns a cellphone in Mexico - because landlines are extremely expensive."

guy might be richer than bill gates, but bill gates contributions to charity is unmatched. it's really not how much money you have, but rather what you do with it to help society.

He may be wealthier, but I'm sure fewer people curse his name (or his company) on a daily basis compared to Bill Gates and Microsoft.

I dont know, it seems like people have overtaken Gates before, such as Mr. Ikea Man. It's strange that nobody I've ever heard of, or seen on Fortune's richest people list, suddenly overtakes Bill Gates in wealth.

I believe the real point is the irony stemming from this specific occasion.

No matter how rich he is, Slim still won't be as well known as Gates. But Buckley certainly helped his cause by tellling us.
Sayl, did they factor in Gates' charitable work? If he kept all his money, maybe he would still be first, but the world won't be any better.

*giggles* When used sparingly, racist jokes are pretty damn funny. Wait, I must be a racist.

Prodigy? PRODIGY? That still exists? Holy crap.

Truly a funny remark and I must say what guts to even say it. So many people now are so freakin "PC" it's sick. Thanks for a good laugh!
