WTF?

Mon Sep 22, 2003 12:09 am

...oh and sorry i dont sugar coat anything just because this is a live board...i tell it like it is regardless..

It's not about "sugar coating", it's about the generalisations you make about the board. Believe me, not every post about NBA Live is positive. Most of us are taking a positive attitude towards NBA Live 2004 - after all, if you get into the mindset then it's going to be bad, then you certainly won't focus on the positives when you get the game.

Obviously that's not the approach everyone does take, nor should everyone adopt that approach. But that's the way many of us are viewing Live 2004. The last couple of years, most people have focused on the negatives. This year we have some things to look forward to, so we're looking forward to them.

Discussion of the negative aspects is fine, and we can't let EA know what's wrong if we post nothing but glowing reviews. But as I said, you seem to generalise us a lot. I can guarantee that not every post regarding NBA Live 2003 is positive. I don't think there's one post that says the gameplay couldn't get any better, and many people feel that Live 2000 remains the best game of the series.

Whether it's intentional or not, your posts seem to insinuate that anyone who posts something positive about the game is stupid. In the past we've had fans of other games, notably the 2K series, join the forum and do nothing but bash Live and flame people for talking about the Live series. This is why some people have attacked you in this thread.

now what are YOUR reasons to believing its legit?

Like I said, even before I saw this post I was informed of the link by the associate producer of NBA Live 2004 (the same guy who can confirm details about the game that I have posted in other threads), so it's fair enough to say it's worth reading. I'm usually informed of interviews, previews and press releases, so I don't think this link can be completely discredited.

oh and btw..YOU of all people shouldnt say NOTHING to me....im a dumb f#ck...yet you copied and pasted one of MY DUMB F#CK POSTS and put it in here claiming its yours....so i guess you are a bigger "dumb f#ck" for quoting and wanting to be like another dumb f#ck....

I already posted a warning about those comments that were made towards you.

As for copying your post...what's with "you copied and pasted"? Only one person did that, and if you'll check the thread once that was established, it should be obvious we don't applaud that kind of behaviour. Again, you seem to lay the blame for one person's actions upon the entire forum.

Again, it's the generalisations you make in your posts that irritate people. Intentionally or not, you seem to insinuate we're stupid for liking Live, or for wanting to stay positive about the game, or choosing to discuss what we like about the previews. Posting a negative point of view is fine, but it's how you present your point of view that seems to be causing problems.

For example: "I don't like the sound of (feature) - it sucks!" is quite different to "Are you all stupid? You guys know absolutely nothing. (Feature) sucks!". The insults towards other posters, while mild, aren't necessary. It's possible to present your point of view, positive or negative, without insulting other people's intelligence and/or point of view.

Before you write us off as idiots who blindly love everything about NBA Live, take the time to read each post. You'll find we don't all post the same thing, and we certainly don't like everything we see. If you give us a chance, we'll return the favour. But if you're going to call us gullible and stupid and talk down to us, then we're probably not going to be as receptive to your posts.

Just try to be nice to other people whether you agree with them or have a different thought.

This is a community and you must follow its rules if you want to be a part of it.

If you have this great idea or an opinion but cannot express it without having to swear and insult others, then you might as well just keep them for yourself.

If there is a guy acting like an idiot, you should just tell andrew to warn/ban him, rather than picking up a swear war

um..i was talking to showstopper...HES the one that pasted and posted my post and he called me a dumbfvck...

And yes i admit im generalizing...maybe im wrong for it..but you cant deny that 90% of the peeps on here are biased...yea its a live site..but i expect peeps to be honest regardless...alot of you arent and that's the truth..

Anything I knock about live is legit....look at my history..i dont do mindless dissing of the game....never...everything i say is from good observation or playing...nothing i say is far fetched..i stop myself from sayin stuff that cant be true without evidence....i am doing nothing wrong but telling what i feel about the game...i get bashed for it...yet and still...if i was PRAISING the game to the degree of how much im listing the negatives...everybody wouldnt have NOTHING to say and would be jipper and happy agreeing with me, lol...i just think thats funny

The point is you dont come into and nba live review discussion and say ...."lol..i knew soon as i seen the phoney review u gullible live lovers were gonna drool over it..". Regardless of what you think, because really it all comes down to is individual opinion. The people who post in this forum are the ones who think differently than you do and this is the perfect place for them to post as they are free to do it. Is something wrong with that? no. Your history has nothing to do with anything...nobody watches what you do online that closely and if they did it would not be to their merit. In terms of the review, the reality of it is that it could be credible. You or anyone else who posts about it know nothing about the authenticity of it. So really, what you claim to be "bad news" for nba live players is really just you trying to propel what YOU think.

The point is when you talk to people of conflicting interests in anything u use tact and sense. Its not sugar coating or prettying up, all it is is being sociable. Many ppl have an idea of the flaws of the live series and then there are the ones that choose to hope for better things next year. You cant come in and knock it in a rude way (yes it was rude) and not expect to meet stiff opposition. If you cant see that there was a better way of saying your "opinion" on the review is that it is fake then this is a waste.

Nkredible states:

...it will be the greatest basketball game ever..mark my words

(actually i was already converted last year...but this year i think espn is REALLY gonna blow out live)

to me, it's obvious--you've already made up your mind on the game of your choice. But you still post on an NBA live fan site? I for one will reserve my judgement when the games come out. I for one will be getting ESPN 2k4 and Live 2004 definetly, and maybe ID 2004. I love basketball not Game developers.

PS--I love the ability to patch on the PC game as well, which to me adds a lot of the realism factor in my book.

This isn't the first time we get nba live hators frequently posting on the nba live board....and sadly its not the last time. People get their kicks by dissing the fans of a game on their "territory"...what can yah do? :?

I would argue that 90% is a figure you've made up to prove your point. Again, all you need to do is look at the posts in the Live 2003 section and see the complaints. Most of us usually reserve judgement until we've played the game ourselves. And again, what you consider truthful is your point of view. Differing opinions doesn't necessarily mean ignorance or stupidity.

Bredrin summed it up pretty well.

as moderator isn't there something you can do?

(Y) Andrew, totally agree. all we're doing is speculating (that's all you can do when the game isn't even out yet).
Opinions are meant to differ :) I don't think I'd be on here if the forum was all: yay Live yay happy happy joy joy.
oh and to Nkredible, what happened to respecting a forum's rules?

Mon Sep 22, 2003 2:12 pm

It's 9/22/03:
the game comes out on Oct.14th--

Nobody has a beta of this game yet? Operation Sports, SGN, Gamespot, IGN ? What's up?

To quote some commentary from NBA2k1: "SPOOOOOOOKY"

maybe this will be our week?

Man what a flamer ride to the skies above...

First of all... I don't see how that review is so great. It really has no new info in it and it is all very basic. The fact that a reviewer liked it, well it's good, but we've seen reviews like this one a half a dozen already.

Nkredible... You gotta learn how to read... And you gotta learn to be a man and just lash out at anyone and everyone for not disagreeing with you. That's just sad and causes a lot of unwanted and uncreative posts. This whole thread probably should be deleted.

And another thing Nkredible... Why would I be expecting espns 2k4 game??? There are a lot of us that have no reason to wait for espn games. They only come out for the consoles and Live does come out for the PC and it's the only game that does come for the PC. I will never get a console (maybe never is a too strong of a word, but anyway) and I will always play with the pc as I think many other Live fans do too. So you really shouldn't start calling people stupid for not owning a console and thus not giving shait about 2k series!

Probably all of us agreed that Live 2003 was far from the best release of EA's live series. If you would just take time to read something about this, well you could see that. (Let me know if you think Live 2003 was the best Live game, I really want to see what you base your decision on?) But there is a foundation there upon which can be built a much better Live and thus a better game. It would seem at the moment that this is what has been done...

We'll all be alot smarter about all this stuff in a couple of weeks.

Here is the Review of ESPN NBA Basketball

http://sports.espn.go.com/espngamer/game?gameId=3

43-50

Cyber Reality ------------------------------------------------------------ 9
As with past Sega products, authenticity is top priority. Good news for casual ballers, though, the title strikes a perfect balance between realism and fun, with more speed, moves and style than last season's award-winning edition, NBA 2K3. From licensed players and teams to tight ball handling and cunning artificial intelligence, this sucker's the real deal.

Navigation ----------------------------------------------------------------- 9
There's no shame in three-pointers, but driving the ball to the net for an alley-oop to Vince Carter has never been more amusing, courtesy of the game's responsive player control (left analog stick) and intuitive dribble features (right analog stick). Sega calls this unprecedented freedom its "IsoMotion" technology. Like the easily navigable main- and sub-menu screens, we just call it "bad-ass."

Easy to Learn ------------------------------------------------------------ 8
More so than ever, the title's a breeze to pick up, even for those who think a Shaq is a small house (actually, he is!). Not that computer-controlled opponents are pushovers ... long gone are the days of uncontested passes and dunks. Multiple game modes including street ball, online matches, season play, tourneys also up its user-friendliness quotient.

Graphics -------------------------------------------------------------------- 8
In a word: unrivaled. Handsome players, enhanced animations (including jerseys and shorts that sway with motion) and a slick new ESPN-powered presentation rock the house. Sega has also tweaked its sweat technology so that players become shinier over time. Our only concern: given the man's current situation, does that mean Kobe will need extra towels?

Overall Experience ----------------------------------------------------- 9
Amazing. Check out all-new feature "24/7." Under this mode, the game reads the console's clock and lets you play in real time with special bonuses, unique visuals (depending on time of day), hidden players only accessible at certain intervals and unlockable accessories. Plus, audiences lose stamina and skill the longer they go without playing. Hey kids, can you say "Unhealthy addiction?"

Is it just me, or are unlockables getting stranger and stranger? I'm glad NBA Live won't have anything like that. As it is I'd rather have everything available from the start than have the NBA Store, but I kinda like the idea as it provides an incentive to play the game a lot, straight away. Even after you've unlocked everything, the replay value of Dynasty Mode will keep the desire to play.
