They'll probably have a quick recap at halftime.

Fri May 25, 2007 5:25 pm

Don't worry it sucked balls anyway... It was boring as hell (N)

Anyone watch the lacrosse today on ESPN? Fucking mind-blowing. Shat all over Cleveland-Detroit...

Lacrosse is a pretty entertaining sport....I've played it once before, is fun....

and Scotty, the Draft Lottery was highly entertaining....I was at work during the day so I taped NBA Shootaround, the Draft Lottery & the Spurs-Jazz game....I watched the Shootaround & the Draft Lottery, both good....but I skipped the Spurs-Jazz game as it doesn't appeal to me....for me, the NBA season is over, there is no need to watch anymore....the draft holds more fascination for me than seeing Detroit beat the Spurs in 7 games in the NBA Finals....

I didn't watch it. If it isn't Scrabble, spelling bees or miscellaneous sporting events from two or three years ago, I'm not interested.

Bill Simmons on ESPN Spelling Bees

And here is the euonym girl he speaks of from the 1997 SB

Fri Jun 01, 2007 7:16 pm

You know, I wouldn't be surprised if the motivation for televising them was the belief of some executives that they're "secretly capitvating".

Fri Jun 01, 2007 7:31 pm

that "spell bound" movie was actually a pretty big hit, so you never know.

Anyone else impressed with ESPN's coverage of the replays? No foreplay just straight action (Y)

Fri Jun 01, 2007 7:47 pm

I haven't been watching the replays, I've just been taping the live broadcasts on days when I can't watch them live. Are they cutting out a bulk of the commercials as Fox Sports were doing on their replays?

Fri Jun 01, 2007 9:26 pm

yes, there's practically no commercials. The game runs for 2hrs and they show the entire game with very short commercials during quarters and short inter quarter commercials. HT is cut out and they go to the start of the 3rd quarter.

That's definitely an improvement then, I might take advantage of that if I can't be bothered fast forwarding through ads when I get home from work. Still, it's small compensation for disappointing coverage on the whole during the postseason. Shame they're not picking up the final two games of the ECF, though I knew there was little chance of that happening.

Damn, that's what i was tryint to find out.... If they were showing Game 6 :(

Sun Jun 03, 2007 9:57 pm

I didn't really expect it to happen though I was obviously hoping I'd be proven wrong.

Sun Jun 10, 2007 1:42 am

With personalities like these, how could we have ever doubted the Nation Spelling Bee?

Sun Jun 10, 2007 3:36 pm

Wouldn't you know it? The most comprehensive coverage of the 2007 NBA Playoffs on Foxtel and I'll probably miss at least one entire game (that's shown on a public holiday, no less) because of the power outtage after Friday's storm. :x Power might be restored by tomorrow night which would allow me to catch the replay but that remains to be seen.

Damn that sucks for you man

Fri Jun 15, 2007 11:11 pm

Watching Game 3 Before Game 4 of the Finals today, it was under 30 seconds to go and Cavs down 3, add break... Comes back on and 10 seconds left down 1, wtf? Damn You ESPN :x
and man that was the worst Finals series i've ever seen, it was hardly the atmosphere of a Championship Victory, the commentators, didn't even mention the Spurs win, they were more pre occupied with Jones taking a 3, even though they were down 4 and there was 1.9 left

Fri Jun 15, 2007 11:34 pm

I guess it's rate and review time.

Honestly, at the end of the regular season I would have given the coverage on Foxtel an A, maybe even an A+. Four games a week with the most variety in years, quite a few Bulls games, the complete All-Star Weekend and some exciting games all around so I was extremely satisfied with the regular season.

Then the Playoffs began.

The most generous grade I'd give the Playoffs coverage is a C and that's being pretty kind. One or two games a week? A whole week without any games? Twelve Spurs games in a row? The coverage left much to be desired and was essentially an extended documentary on the Spurs, which wouldn't be so bad if they didn't dominate the schedule year in and year out. They should have showed other teams while they had the chance, but they didn't. Extremely disappointing.

I guess overall I'd rate the coverage around a B. Fantastic regular season (for me, anyway), very lacklustre postseason coverage.

Sat Jun 16, 2007 2:33 am

^my sentiments exactly.

Sun Jun 17, 2007 8:44 pm

Yeah Great Reg Season, Playoffs sucked balls, and possibly thw worst Finals series to date... (N)
Reg Season A
Playoffs C-

Just to demonstrate how much attention ESPN paid to the NBA playoffs, the NBA Finals game 5 is still in on the onscreen guide this morning. Terrific.

Anyway, my grades: Similar position to Andrew.

Regular season: Lots of Bulls games, lots of variety. Got to watch every team except for Atlanta and Toronto. And the Bulls went 6-1 in those games. A (keep this up, fox sports)

Playoffs: bah. The Spurs/Suns series was the only coverage i really enjoyed. Obviously i would have liked more games, and certainly more EC games. D (yep. just D)

An example of wishful thinking, perhaps.

Yeah i kept watching the baseball, in the hopes that they'd put a finals game from last year on or something. Then i laughed at my own idiocy.

I checked out ESPN International's online guide the other day and as yet no games are listed. It's usually a month in advance so I guess there'll be some more info come October. Episodes of NBA Action resume October 26th though.

Here's the schedule for November so far. No word on Fox Sports coverage but I really hope there is since ESPN Australia's variety leaves something to be desired...
