Sim City 5 going to Tilted Mill instead of Maxis

Fri Jun 08, 2007 9:20 am

After Maxis developed the Sim City series for over a decade (from the original SimCity to Sim City 4), Sim City 5 (dubbed SimCity Societies) has been handed to Tilted Mill, the same company that developed Caesar IV.

Here's some links:

I think that Sim City 5 should stay with Maxis. It has been a success there for so long. And the comments made by Chris Beatrice, the general manager of Tilited Mills, certainly didn't help the image of the company.

What do you think?

Bump...

(Why is there nobody who likes Sim City around here? Guess it's my own stupid fault for posting this in an NLSC forum, not in Simtropolis. But they have a million thread for this topic already)

I like Sim City, I spent countless hours playing 1, 2000, 3000, and 4 just, well its been so long since there has been new official content or any news. Maxis is currently occupied with all the new Sims 2 expansions and hopefully Spore so Im not too surprised by this move.

BTW a preview and some screens

Glad to see a fellow Sim City fan, JaoSming. Got no replies for four days so I thought that there was no one interested.

I was actually shocked (and appalled) at the news, though. How could they take it away from Maxis? And Tilted Mill is just going to screw it up like it did Caesar IV. The screens don't show anything that remotely resembles anything like SC.

dang i lived on simcity 2000 back in the day. i always had problems getting my population up, so i was never able to get the arcologies without cheating.

tried a little bit of 3000 and 4, but never really got into it.

the original was cool but after playing 2000, it's not playable.

Some SimCity fans here do try to read that 25 page thread you linked.

Talk about putting one's foot in one's mouth for Tilted Mill, and the preview doesn't help at all. It still boggles me why Tilted Mill would go on a very different direction when it already has a solid foundation from previous developer Maxis and its fans that mod the game. Oh wait...EA, NBA Live 2000...EA, Sim City 4...it figures.

well the hardcore city planning "simulation" didnt really have anywhere to go after simcity 4. There are no cool features to implement anymore and Simcity 5 would just be bland and more of the same old same old. The only innovation they could have done was making the game 3D but that would just lead to camera issues IMO.

I dunno, I welcome the move and the attempt at something new. But after looking at some of those screenshots and reading a bit about it, I think this new simcity may go the way of simsville and get canceled.

Oops. I only meant to link the second post in the topic (the one Tilted Mill president Chris Beatrice posted).

man i love sim city and have been dying for a 5th but now that maxis is not doing it i doubt it will even be worth getting. also i disagree with jao, i think there is still alot of room for improvement from sim city 4.

well i guess i gotta be honest, they could shit in a box and put sim city 5 on said box and i would still get it. its too bad the sims is so big, it is killing off everything else that maxis could make. damn cash cows

Wed Jun 13, 2007 9:35 am

well im not planning on getting it either, Spore on the other hand :cheeky: Come to daddy.

Wed Jun 13, 2007 9:55 am

yeah i am all about spore now lol

edit: is spore gonna be on all the major systems? ps3,xbox, and pc?

Wed Jun 13, 2007 10:20 am

Spore sounds smexxy.

Wed Jun 20, 2007 10:31 am

I had heard this was not technically SimCity 5, but an off-shoot like SimsVille was going to be. Because it is not a direct predecessor, Maxis passed on it to finish Spore quicker. I put it with games like SimTower, SimEarth, etc.

I assume Wright and his team will be back for a SimCity 5 eventually. But he got bored and had achieved much of what he could at the time with 4, so that's why we have Spore.

And who's going to even want Socities when we'll have Spore to play? I mean, I forsee the NLSC shutting down along with half the internet upon it's release.

Maybe my expectations are too high? Nah.

maybe for Spore, but for the GTA:IV 2nd trailer on the 28th Im sure most forums will be deserted.

I doubt that, they'll be full of "OMG R* RUNED GTA" and "BEST. GAME. EVAR." I'm sure.

The only GTA game I ever played was the original, with the cartoony top-down camera angle. Everytime I tell any 'gamer' that, their jaw drops.
