I wonder what it would take to make the Clips part with Elton Brand? Aren't they happier being perennial lottery anyway? He may be easier to get considering his weak performance this season.

Although that would leave the Bulls w/ a 6' 8" and 6' 9" frontcourt.

Indiana is rebuilding and would love two young players, and if the Wolves was presented with the same package, they might finally give in and admit they had to rebuild too.

Doesn't KG have a no-trade clause in his contract? If so, the Timberwolves eagerness to rebuild still depends on him wanting out.

I did think of a few more names of possible Bulls targets. Firstly, Lamar Odom. If Jerry West does re-join the Lakers, you would think that Odom could be one of the first on the chopping block. He's another guy with something of a checkered history, but i think that he could thrive in Chicago. He's a solid rebounder and his passing skills would help out Ben Gordon's game a lot as well.

Not really sure who the Bulls would give though. Nocioni, obviously would be one. But he probably isnt enough, and there wouldnt be a salary match either. So you have to maybe include PJ as a sign and trade and the 1st round pick. Kobe, would probably love to have PJ and Nocioni, but it's unlikely that he wants to be around too many rookies if he's trying to win now.

If Kobe's not sticking around, then the Lakers could be more inclined to go for it.

Another name that i thought of as a post scoring threat was David West of the Hornets. A very solid shooter, rebounder and free-throw shooter, but not so good defensively. But he's playing very well with Chris Paul, and the Hornets are unlikely to be very cheap in trading him.

That wouldn't be a bad deal to acquire Odom, though it would seem he's the centrepiece in a deal to get Jermaine O'Neal to the Lakers so he's probably not going to be available unless that falls through (or turns out to be nothing but rumours). West is intriuging as well though as you said it's doubtful the Hornets will be inclined to trade him short of a star coming the other way.

as far as the 9th pick goes... yeesh!. from the alleged prospects that will be available when it's Pax's turn, i don't see any of those players making a big contribution to next years team. i really really really hope Noah is not picked by the Bulls- even if draftexpress has a hard on for him.

imo Pax should trade the pick to a team looking to move up. worst case scenario they can trade it for a future 1st round pick, giving them a few extra $ to spend in free agency

One of the core (my preference being Deng, VERY reluctantly) plus Nocioni and pick 9 should have been enough for them come mid-season. The Griz obviously wouldnt make the deal now, because they didnt get the top pick and Oden.

I've always liked Pau. He's my second favourite Euro in the league after Dirk, and he is still capable of helping out defensively as well as providing the much needed interior scoring.

Other possibilities: possibly KG, although we'd probably need to drop in another first-rounder into the mix. Which is a big, big gamble, because it gives the Bulls a much narrower window to win a title.

Still possibly Randolph, but that would be better as a straight up one-for-one trade, although salaries would obviously need to be matched.

Al Jefferson, which the Celtics would never do.

Would have said JO, but he's probably out of the picture now.

Think the Spurs are interested in shopping Tim Duncan?

Possibly Chris Bosh, but the Raptors should be hesitant in making any big moves after their strong showing this year. They have Bargnani and Garbajosa to hold down the 4, and we could always hand over PJ Brown as insurance.


It's hard, because there are less good inside scorers than i realised. So you win that. It's also tricky because i dont want to lose either of the sophomores, who would have a lot of value to any of those teams.

I'd make the same choice. If you're bringing in a scorer in the frontcourt then it's going to be Gordon and Hinrich who benefit from it the most. That said, I'd be sorry to see Deng leave. Ideally I'd like all three to stay but if Pax is intent on beefing up the frontcourt with a player like Pau that's probably not an option. The problem is, most teams would probably want two out of the three and I still feel that would be going from one weakness to another.

Our needs is inside prescence. I'm rooting for Spencer Hawes but I heard rumors that he was pulling his name out of the draft. Anyways I hope he doesn't. I also heard Yi is not working out for many teams, his agent wants him to go to either Chicago or GSW and is expecting either team to trade up and draft him. He's doing that because of the style of play of both teams - up tempo and because they are both big market and will be getting more more thru endorsements compared to a small market.

I think Tyrus Thomas' development through the summer camp can boost his performance for next year.. Coz this kid is the booster.. Super impact player with tremendous hustle.. i wish they cud find another guy like him with experience..

I don't think he's made up his mind yet. If he does want to keep playing and the price is right, I wouldn't mind seeing him stick around with the Bulls. Even if they do acquire that post scorer they need, it can't hurt to have some depth in the frontcourt particular a solid veteran talent of good character like PJ Brown.

Are they really only working out Hawes (and Martin) or are there gonna be more workouts to come? Because that does seem like a total shot in the dark for someone who could potentially turn into Michael Doleac.

Most of the workout are for our 2 2nd round picks. Our 1st round pick workouts look to be Joakim Noah, Spencer Hawes, and Corey Brewer (hey let's get another SF!).

I'm hopeful Yi drops to the Bulls, only 2 teams have worked him out, the Hawks & Boston, and i doubt either would take him as both are looking for a C, not PF.

though there is something about this guy i don't like. maybe it's that he doesn't possess the'high celiing' or the out of this world athleticism

this will probably be the last lottery type pick the Bulls will have so I'm hoping Paxson takes a little gamble here/goes for potential

it's still possible that Paxson could attend other team's workouts. probably some of the players on that list that are going to chicago- other Gm's will be watching as well

on a side note- Paxson has only drafted players that he's worked out or at the least seen them play in person

maes- btw do you have a link to any articles mentioning how the Yi workout went with ATL and/or Bos?? he did look very smooth and agile for a guy his size in the youtube vids. but so did that 'Skita' guy...

I like him, I think he's the best fit. He's not very athletic but he doesn't need to be because his post play is so incredibly polished, especially for an 19 year old. The only thing I'm worried about is his defence, but Tyrus/Ben are both great defenders so I guess it doesn't hurt too much.

That's a fairly big if. There also seems to be a bit of Luol Deng about him as well, minus the defence, plus a few inches... of height. I wonder if he'd have the same contract stipulations that Yao had, about being forced to play for the national team and the like, and i also wonder if i'd care.


I think drafting Yi makes good business sense, because it gets the Bulls a lot of attention in China and gets Ben Wallace an all-star start.

If i thought there was any chance of Yi ever being able to play Centre, i'd pull the trigger in an instant, and watch him, Tyrus and Deng blossom into the most potent and entertaining frontcourt in the league.

However, the likely only way that he will come to Chicago is if we trade up to get him. And if we do, i want Sweetney gone.

And if we don't, then Hawes has to be it. I can't see any way around it.
