Well, the results regarding Kevin Durant really didn't suprise me. I always laughed when people said he was a "freakish" athlete - the amazing dunks he pulls off are almost completely because of his massive wingspan, not his jumping ability. Not at one point during the season did Kevin look fast either, but I never knew Oden was quicker.

Kevin failed to bench 185 pounds even once, the same weight Mike Conley lifted 13 times. His wingspan probably didn't help him there. Oden didn't do the bench press because he was worried about aggravating his almost healed wrist.

Mike Conley was far more athletic than a thought. He was the fastest player at the combine, benched more than his own body weight 13 times and has a 40 inch vertical to boot.

I didn't watch Oden play a whole lot, maybe 5 or 6 games, but his numbers are very impressive. Greg was on par with alot of athletic wing players in the 3/4 court sprint, which really shocked me with him being a 7 footer. In the lane agility test he scored just 0.07 seconds slower than Javaris Crittenton, a super athletic PG known for his quick first step and good speed. He scored just 0.04 seconds slower fellow Buckeye Mike Conley, who turned out to be the fastest player at the combine as I mentioned before. Everyone knows Conley is quick, and the fact a 7 footer was on par with his quickness in the lane agility test isn't a knock on Conley, more of a showcase of Oden's speed and agility as a big. Amazing.

Kevin was on par with JJ Redick in terms of jumping ability. He got 26 inches on the no step vertical, while Redick jumped 27.5 inches. Redick had the same max vertical jump as Durant at 33 inches.

I wonder if I'll still have to listen to the ESPN "analysts" go on at the draft about Kevin's "freakish" athleticism...

KD is by far my favorite player out of this class and is easily the player I have watched the closest over the last few years, but people are hyping him up way to much. He is just going to be Rashard Lewis 2.0 at this point, but more aggresive and more dynamic as a scorer. He is actually unathletic, but his massive wingspan (bigger than Greg Oden's) somewhat makes up for that. That is what got him all his blocked shots this season. He really isn't a good defender, under average for the NBA level.

It's just stupid to say anyone in this draft should go ahead of Greg Oden.

Brandan is skinny as hell and has a massive wingspan. I'd imagine it would be pretty hard to bench when your not only weak, but also tree branches for arms.

Yeah, but I remember kids in 9th grade freshman PE being able to bench 185.

yeah, I agree, Memphis would be a good fit for Horford....Gasol needs all the help he can get inside & I don't think the team can afford to wait on a guy like Wright or Yianlian to flourish....they need someone who can step in right away & help them win ball games in the tough West....

Some of those players are wearing some massive shoes :O Julian Wright grows 2 full inches after putting on his boots apparently - give me some of those and I'll play forward next year!

I am pretty impressed with Al Thornton, Jason Smith and Noah's verticals, far better than i had expected. Josh McRoberts disapoints though - I thought he was more athletic after watching some nice highlight dunks if his. I had expected better from Brandan Wright aswell since nbadraft.net gave his athletic ability a 10/10.

Long wingspan guys never benchpress well, but 2 is unusually low for a 4. Lemarcus Alridge isn't considered a beast by any means and he did 8.

What i'm curious about, what was with Greg Oden's 0? Did he skip this part of the test because of his wrist? Is his wrist STILL hurt?

Conley is starting to look pretty good at the #3 spot. He's got the strength, speed, quickness and jumping ability. Plus he showed flashes of greatness (or at least goodness) towards the end of the season.

I really think he would be a good pick for the Atlana. They really need a PG to lead their young nucleus, and they can't afford to repeat what they did in 2005 when they passed on not one, but two franchise pg's.

One interesting thought would be if Portland traded off Randolph (and maybe Jack) for a high draft spot in order to pick up Conley. It would be awesome to see Oden and Conley play together in the pro's and the Blazers would have an outstanding young nucleus:

C - Oden
PF - Alridge
SF - Miles or Webster
SG - Roy
PG - Conley

it would be a good team on paper,and look really good for the future, but too many young players will only cause this team to fail. we have seen it far to many times that a team full of young promissing players never lives up to the hype. these teams usually end up breaking up due to free agency also. i think they keep who they got and atleast wait til the trade deadline to make any moves. if they do have to make a trade, get a vet who can bring in some real leadership.

IMO These results further prove that Thaddeus Young anywhere outside the top 10 (or even near the end of the top 10) is a huge steal. He has incredible potential.

I watched every game Mike Conley played this year, and I'm shocked his vertical was that good. It's sort of a useless stat, because I never saw him jump that high in game.

Same with Brandon Roy, his vertical is off the charts but you'd consider him one of those highflyer players.

Yeah they're not the best gauge of athleticism. Look at how well James Augustine scored for a big man, his #s blow Oden's out of the water in every way yet he can barely play in the NBA while Oden will dominate.

It's kinda like trying to gauge how good a shooter a person is by seeing from how far away from the basket he can make a shot.

Maybe if they ran all these guys 30 minutes and then made them take 20 jumps & averaged, we'd get more useful info. But that's what the private workouts are for.

i think they should also include Darius Miles in the trade coz he is close to useless.. although this guy was a great athlete.. he is sooo fragile.. i bet he gets injured this upcoming year...

Well I don't know about the top 10, but Thad is a very good player and I don't think enough teams are really looking at him. He could really be a great player in this league given the chance because he has the work ethic and isn't a bad kid.

These combine results once again fuel my love for Thaddeus Young... I can't wait to see this leftie play next year.

exactly you would not think that Nba player were weaker than normal people right? well I know that shorter guys with shorter arms have it easier lifting weight and stuff and the same goes with push up, it is easier for me coz the distance they have to travelled to make one repetition is much shorter compared to those nba prospect with long arms. But don't worry guys those nba prospects will catch up with us and surpass us in no time - why? because thats their job... unless of course you're a bust and don't give a damn about your game and are just there to collect a paycheck.

I think Thad will be a steal too, but these combine tests show absolutely nothing. Look at last year. The player who did the best was David Noel. Brandon Roy was ranked 30th.
