Sources that spoke with Sam Smith of the Chicago Tribune, say Jermaine O'Neal already has told the Pacers he wants to be traded to the Knicks and former Pacers coach and close friend Isiah Thomas.
If this goes down, I would be looking forward to seeing an Eddy Curry/Jermaine frontline. Eddy can score as well as any center in the league, but doesn't play defence nor rebound. Jermaine is one of the leagues best rebounders
and defenders each year, but is also capable of 20+ PPG himself.
For Indiana, not so good. They will be getting a huge contract back to balance out the salaries and will probably be a very low level team until that contract expires and they can sign a good free agent (along with their draft picks). They are gonna either get Steve Francis or Stephon Marbury in this deal, most likely Steve in my opinion because he is almost worthless right now and hasn't been happy in New York.
Three things I am looking forward to if this goes down: The Eddy/Jermaine frontline as I said earlier, Danny Granger possibly breaking out in a big way and finally, though not likely, Steve Francis getting his game back in Indy.

this trade is gonna be exciting!
Tue May 08, 2007 12:21 pm
wow
Tue May 08, 2007 12:27 pm
Man.. it'd be odd to see Jermaine in the blue and orange, but as long as he's happy I guess. Knowing that it's impossible, but I'd love to see him in Houston.

Sam Smith just makes shit up. Don't believe this for one second.

Damn mod powers...
Is it really that far fetched if Jermaine isn't happy in Indiana (which I though was the case for some time now?) and New York, run by his close friend, has a matching salary that they are looking to offload?

Jermaine is not unhappy in Indiana, he would rather win here then go somewhere else. However, he feels like he would rather get moved if we feel like we can no longer build a championship team around him. I don't believe for one second that Jermaine went in to TPTB office and said that he wanted to be moved to the Knicks. No matter who wrote it, I wouldn't buy it, but the fact that Sam Smith said it makes is a negative chance that it happened. This is like the 30th time Sam Smith has wrote that Jermaine asked to be traded somewhere. He said the same thing last year and the year before. He also says the same thing about Kevin Garnett every few weeks. Living in Chicago I get to read his bullshit every day, and I read it for comedy.
Even if JO did ask to be moved to New York, TPTB would not send him there if there was a better deal somewhere else. Personally I'd rather talk to L.A. about JO.

New York would have to fork over a lot of their young talent to acquire O'Neal, and even then they'd just screw themselves up the arse financially when they're finally seeing some daylight from their massive contracts.
Tue May 08, 2007 3:42 pm
JO doesnt seem to look odd in blue and orange.. he wud look really odd wearing bucks jersey though... this is definitely going to happen.. im having a positive vibe about it.. i wanna see JO in new york.. most likely steve wud be gone.. but i want marbury to leave new york too.. but i doubt that'll happen..
heres whom i think wud be in a deal..
frye
lee
rose
francis
i do hope this happens.. but b4 it does.. i hope JO thinks about fixing his game first rather than where he is going.. coz this season.. he just wasnt heard about from anymore.. excluding those that he got posterized by the NBA leapers...
Tue May 08, 2007 3:49 pm
rose??..he's on the suns..lol
iono how this is going to work, so much talent and adding some more talent but where's the teamwork? they need to worry about getting players on the team to work with eachother first
Tue May 08, 2007 4:00 pm
^ Malik Rose.
I don't think most people heard about Jermaine much this season because the Pacers sorta fell apart after the trade and weren't mentioned in possible playoff talk late in the season, and that he was injured a bit this season.
He pretty much had a 20/10 season and finished 3rd in the league in blocks per game.
He's still a very, very good player.
Tue May 08, 2007 4:13 pm
NYK are interested in every big man but their own.
Tue May 08, 2007 4:17 pm
ahh i see..my bad..he's more of a player to be built around instead of being traded..imo

Last year was the best season Jermaine has had since he entered the league, and I can count the number of times he got posterized on one hand.

who tf wants to have players from the new york knicks?^^
if you`d made the last few big trades of the knicks retrogressive...i think the suns would not have reached at least the conferencesemifinals for third time, the bulls maybe were no contender, the magic would not have played in the playoffs this year...
why, suddenly, they should be able to do a good trade? i`d like to see them escaping from this curious rostersituation, but i`m not that optimistic about it.

Sam Smith is a pure fiction writer. Just put "I think it would be interesting if hypotethically..." at the beginning of all of his columns.
I'm more likely to believe the stuff Peter Vecsey writs.

Vecsey used to be a guy that should definitley be listened to when it came to the Pacers because he got his leaks straight from Donnie Walsh. Now for some reason they had a falling out and Donnie doesn't give him any information.

Metro News -
Jermaine O'Neal said in an interview Wednesday that he has spoken with Pacers CEO Donnie Walsh once since the season ended, but trade talk never entered the conversation. He said there is nothing to reports that he's pushing to be reunited with his old coach Isiah Thomas at the New York Knicks .
"That's just somebody that's putting out speculation," O'Neal told The Associated Press. "That didn't come from the Pacers, and that didn't come from me."

If Sam Smith is this unreliable, how does he keep his job?
I never take much notice of who writes what.
Thu May 10, 2007 1:46 pm
He keeps his job because lots of people enjoy reading fiction.
Fri May 11, 2007 1:24 am
So it turns out Sam Smith was wrong again? Huh, what a shocker.

J O definitely wants out.

If its LA, than its gonna be again a Lakers dynasty, O'Neal will replace O'Neal. If he goes to the Knicks, my guess he will end up like Marbury and Francis.
