Well, NBA Live 2005 is frustrating when I lack a responsive keyboard, and I don't want my Xbox to collect rust, and I don't feel like playing NBA 2K7, so I'm going to post my hilarious Manager Mode, starting from English Division Three.

I randomly picked Mansfield Town, and got myself started a month ago. I'll post what I've done already, and then start posting game recaps.

I'll have to fire up some ratings too, but there it is. On Xbox, there's no screenies, so the best I can dois with my phone, which is...no-no.

MANSFIELD DEFEATED BY DARLINGTON

In the end, the Stags just couldn't put the ball in the net, and Darlington took the handful of chances they got.

Despite a dominant performance, Mansfield were defeated by Darlington 2-0, as Darlington put away the few chances they had to score, and Mansfield blew a series of good oppurtunities.

Darlington struck early, in the 11th minute, when Julian Joachim got on the end of a seeking cross, and volleyed past Carl Muggleton for the goal. Mansfield immediately went on the attack, but were constantly stifled by some good defensive play, and poor offensive execution. Adam Birchall, the club's top scorer, forced a sharp save out of the keeper, but there wasn't much else for Mansfield as they headed to the break 1-0 down.

In the second half, oppurtunities for Mansfield flowed thick and fast, but none were converted in doses of harsh luck, at one point, reducing Richard Barker to standing with his mouth open, after a deflected strike had dribble centimetres past the goalpost for a corner.

Matthew Boulding, coming off as a substitute opened with a sharp strike inside the D, which was palmed over the post. Matt Hamshaw gave his defender the slip, only to see the ball be tipped away at the near post. John D'Laryea hit a piledriving half-volley from 36 metres out, which curled viciously, only to strike the top post. Birchall slipped open once again, only to be denied by a fingertip save and the post. In between all this, Darlington put the game away with a goal off some terrible defence, and to rub salt in the wound, Danny Reet managed to curl the ball back towards the right of the goal in hopes of a consolation, only for the ball to once again, strike the woodwork and complete a farcical shutout.

MANSFIELD DOMINATE HARTLEPOOL IN EXTRA TIME-WINS FIRST ROUND TIE

In the first round of the Johnstone's Paint/LDV Vans trophy, Mansfield scored twice in the first extra period to overcome Hartlepool, and move on to a second-round tie with Nottingham Forest.

The first-half was a stale affair, with only a couple of long-range shots threatening the goal. John D'Laryea forced a save out of keeper Dimitrios Konstantopolous, and narrowly missed the bar on another attempt, and the same occurred at the other end.

At the half, Mansfield's formation was shuffled to 4-3-2-1, with Adam Birchall playing deep as a lone striker. The move nearly paid off, as he latched onto a long ball and half-volleyed just past the post.

However, Mansfield failed to find the same sort of delivery to Birchall, although Richard Barker forced another fingertip save from Konstantopolous. There was one terribly anxious moment for Mansfield, when Eifion Williams turned and hit the post, with the ball glancing off Carl Muggleton's shoulder and bouncing towards goal. Muggleton's dive came up embarrassingly short, but John Mullins was on hand to clear the ball out, and extra time was needed.

Although Birchall came up short yet again early on, he finally provided the breakthrough in the 106th minute. Off an error of judgement by Michael Nelson, Birchall took the ball away from the defender, and drove his ball low under Konstantopolous's dive. Richard Barker added another goal near the end of the first period, hitting a thunderbolt into the very top-right corner of the net, off a pass by Birchall.

The second period saw Mansfield really open up to the 4-3-2-1 system, and force several more great saves by Konstantopolous to keep the scoreline somewhat respectable.

MANSFIELD SQUEEZE HOME AGAINST CHESTER

In their first-round FA Cup tie against 20th-placed Chester, Mansfield got home in a penalty shootout, although it was a huge struggle.

Mansfield rested most of their first-teamers, after their marathon win just a few days ago, and started Simon Brown at the striker position in the 4-3-2-1, who had been in poor form.

After some early nerves, Chester settled down first, and Ryan Brookfeild capitalized on a terrible throw by Carl Muggleton, and hit a stinging shot that glanced off Muggleton's gloves, and into the net.

After this goal, Mansfield immediately went on the attack, with defenders looking to find Brown on long balls. Brown lost the ball several times, but finally found an opening, only to be cut down from behind just outside the penalty area with only the keeper to beat. James Vaughan, the offending defender, was sent off for the professional foul and Brown tied it up with a well-struck free kick, although keeper Danby saw it late, most likely due to the sunlight.

With the man advantage, the Stags went searching for the quick kill, but gritty defence by Chester and some poor execution and lack of patience prevented Mansfield from threatening with any chances. Although Danby made saves here and there, Chester looked rather untroubled on the defensive end. They even had their own chances to steal the win, but some last-ditch defence kept Mansfield from a disappointing defeat, and the match headed to a penalty shootout.

After the sides had made their first three kicks, Danby went up to take the fourth penalty, and was promptly tipped away by Muggleton. Michael Boulding converted from the spot, and although Chester pulled back to 4-4, Nathan Arnold coolly slotted the ball home to send the Stags to the second round.

BARKER SCORES LATE-WINS GAME FOR MANSFIELD

In an effort to try and break Mansfield's stale offense of late, manager Bill Dearden switched the formation to 4-3-3, running Adam Birchall and Simon Brown on the wings, with Richard Barker as the center forward.

It worked, as Mansfield provided a sparkling offensive performance, but it was only Barker's 89th minute strike that gave the Stags the deserved three points over MK Dons.

Mansfield settled in very early, with Matt Hamshaw and Brown forcing saves from keeper Bankole. Brown found acres of space on the left, and the Mansfield defenders saw them as well, sending long balls into the area for Brown to pick up and cross uncontested into the Milton Keynes penalty box. However, Bankole managed to keep this aerial bombardment out with some good stops and a few good catches, and Clive Platt missed a couple of decent chances at the other end, and the half finished at 0-0.

In the second half, Mansfield struggled to get the ball forward and allow the space for their strikers to run in, so they stuck back to their original short passing game. A few more shots were forced, but Bankole denied the Stags time after time, including a brilliant save on Birchall on a breakaway. But finally, the deadlock was broken when Barker received a perfect ball from Matt Hamshaw, and coolly slotted the ball into the net, and three full points went to Mansfield.

PETERBOROUGH OUTPLAY MANSFIELD

In the slushy conditions at London Road Stadium, Peterborough, Mansfield's skillful passing game never eventuated, and Peterborough played perfect wet-weather football to prevail.

Playing a 5-3-2 system, Peterborough's stacked back line didn't give Mansfield's dangerous frontline much space to work with, and many hopeful long balls were read well by keeper Mark Tyler.

Early on, Mansfield were looking to repeat their attacking showing against MK Dons, but Adam Birchall and Richard Barker were given limited space and only managed to paddle early shots straight to keeper Mark Tyler. At the other end, Simon Yeo had better chances, including one where he was given a clear passage to goal after a cleverly worked midfield move was chipped to him with no defenders around him, but ended up lobbing over the post. Another ball crashed into the post, as Peterborough pressured the Mansfield defence into making errors. Finally, striker Aaron McLean broke the deadlock after latching onto an uncontested cross and driving it past Carl Muggleton. Peterborough came flowing back for a second, but the 1-0 deficit remained at half-time.

In the second half, Mansfield struggled just as much in terms of offense. Simon Brown had one clear-cut chance, but fired wide and a few more long-distance shots whistled by the post. Peterborough had a second in the 60th minute to put the game away with ease, and the shots total for both sides were clear-19 to Peterborough, and 9 to Mansfield.

MANSFIELD THRASH NOTTS COUNTY

Mansfield's attack continues to show its Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde sides, this time as they smashed Notts County 4-0 on their home ground, with Richard Barker scoring a hat-trick.

It was clear early in the game that Notts County's defensive strategy was playing loose, and this fitted perfectly for Mansfield's attacking formation. However, the first chance came off a scramble after a mis-kicked corner, and ended up with Matt Hamshaw hitting the post with a powerful left-footed strike off a half-volley. Adam Birchall was next, opened up on the left, before sending a powerful strike which was saved by a diving Kevin Pilkington. However, Barker broke the deadlock on the ensuing corner, receiving the ball while open at the far post, and poking it past Pilkington.

Mansfield continued pressing, and Gareth Jelleyman almost had a contender for Goal of the Season, when his attempted cross almost turned into a vicious lob, which beat Pilkington, only to thump the top post. However, the Stags doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time, when Birchall was brought down on the second attempt from behind by defender Mike Edwards. Simon Brown stepped out, and cleverly drilled the free kick under the wall, and past the keeper for 2-0.

Although Notts attempted to get back in it early in the second half, the game was sealed when Carl Muggleton's long clearance was read perfectly by Barker, who broke away from his markers at halfway, before controlling the ball and pushing it past Pilkington. He added his third goal in the 89th minute, although it looked like the ball struck his hands before he volleyed it past the keeper. It didn't matter though.

MANSFIELD GIVE UP 1-0 LEAD, LOSE TO GRIMSBY

Two costly defensive mistakes resulted in Mansfield losing 2-1 to 4th-placed Grimsby, and slipping to third on the ladder.

After Stephen Dawson put Mansfield ahead with an absolute rocket into the top corner, Grimsby went on the attack, but only scored off a turnover, where Danny North stole the ball, cut back and scored after Carl Muggleton messed up his placement.

Although Mansfield kept trying to push forwards, the Grimsby defence denied them with confidence, and Isaiah Rankin added a second goal when a clever switch left him open one the left, and Muggleton let the ball squeeze in between himself and the post.

Michael Boulding had a chance to tie the game up after receiving a short pass, but he lacked the space to direction the shot, and keeper Barnes saved comfortably

BIRCHALL'S GOAL LIFTS MANSFIELD TO THIRD ROUND

Adam Birchall tapped in a goal, and Mansfield had several other chances denied by the post and the keeper as they booked a ticket to the biggest game of their life: a match against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

At the final whistle, the Stags jumped around in celebration, after realizing the momentous occasion they had just gotten into.

Mansfield dominated the whole game against the low-positioned team as they played freely in yet another game claiming to their unpredictable offensive displays.

Even with their reserve side on, the Stags were constantly dangerous, with Birchall getting constant delivery from the wing all through the match. However, he didn't capitalize on a chance until early in the second half, where he raced away and guided the ball past the keeper.

Mansfield continued to attack, but their defence played just as well, pushing out Rochdale raids, and constantly driving the ball back into defence. And to show for it, a match with the Red Devils', in an atmosphere bigger than a couple of years ago, whn they played Newcastle at St. James Park.

MANSFIELD STUN NOTTINGHAM FOREST IN JOHNSTONE'S PAINT TROPHY, SECOND ROUND

Days after their win over Rochdale secured a berth against Manchester United, Mansfield Town shocked League One side Nottingham Forest in an inter-county battle.

After threatening to score for most of the game, with Forest only having a few decent chances, Adam Birchall and Richard Barker, who have become deadly marksmen this season, both scored in extra time to put the game away in front of stunned Forest fans.

However, the result should not have been so unexpected, as the Stags played like a team with nothing to lose. In the third straight game involving wet conditions, the 4-3-3 formation generated plenty of delivery via the wing, and forced plenty of saves. Although Nottingham had a couple of chances, they were denied by keeper Muggleton and the post; twice. The second poster was cleared off the line, and Muggleton nearly kicked the ball straight into a striker on another clearance.

Birchall broke the deadlock early in extra time, receiving a long ball, turning and beating a defender, before sending the keeper the wrong way en-route to pushing the ball into the goal. He sealed it minutes later when after beating his marker on the wing with a clever turn, he crossed into the box and found an open Barker, who finished.

Yeah, so I'm still doing this thing. Just a bit lazy to recap my last two games, a draw against some team and a 1-0 victory against sixth-placed Boston.
