That "idea" has been suggested over and over after Live2001 by a number of different persons.

Hmm... Maybe so, but I didn't see it in any of the Live 08 threads... And frankly, i've never seen anyone here post that idea... i'm sure someone has seeing as i havent even read a tenth of the posts here.

I'm starting to feel that way as well. I intend to keep buying the PC version as long as one is available but it would seem the future of the series - at least in terms of the focus and innovations - is on the Next Gen consoles, unless of course they start porting that version for the PC. At any rate, with the Current Gen consoles getting phased out I'll eventually have to upgrade to play the other games I'm interested in so I'm thinking of getting a 360 once they come down a bit. PS3 is still around $1000 here in Australia.

In my opinion, porting should be easier if and when they start to port from 360 as both are Microsoft OS's. There has been quite a push with Vista to market the OS to gamers, if I'm not mistaken we might see allot of 360 games on PC very soon.

The unfortunate fact of the matter is that the console versions outsell the PC version by a significant margin, so that's not where the focus is going to be. I'm as disappointed by that as everyone else because I'm traditionally a PC player as well but there is a business element of game development that we do often overlook and it wouldn't be a smart business decision to invest heavily in a corner of the market that yields the least amount of profit. Unfortunately for us we are that smaller, less profitable corner of the market.

You are absolutely right on this one Andrew.

EA, like any other conglomerate, is a 'for profit' business. They follow a strict business philosophy and obviously, follow a very succesful business model.

If there's anything to be said about EA as a business (not a game developer / publisher), is that they have been very succesful because they understand the mass market demands on the consoles. Unfortunately, they also understand that on the PC realm, they have the -ONLY- basketball game on the PC.

As we all know, competition drives this market; and without any other competition on the PC market, they're pretty much able give us whatever they want and still be able to receive and leverage a fair profit margin. So even when people b!tch and moan about EA; in the very end, it's all fun and games to us gamers, but to EA, it's all business.

I'm optimistic that with the new advent of the 'Games for Windows' format and the big push for Vista, more and more developers will start seeing the PC as more than just an enthusiast market, and finally see it as a legitimate gaming platform. PC gaming has risen 48% from last year, so it's (hopefully) almost there.

looks like there isn't any PC version of the nba live 08

http://search.ign.com/products?query=nba+live+08

Please Andrew can you ask it to EA ?

I wouldn't trust IGN for that kind of judgment, even though last year IGN confirmed the PC version by releasing the box art for the PC.

If the official website goes up and it doesn't have the PC version on there, then we can be worried. And we will have to make another SUM, but better.

As far as I'm aware there'll be a PC version until we hear otherwise from EA.

To be honest, I wouldn't care if there was no NBA Live 08 for the PC if the spent time was making a killer next gen version for PC in NBA Live 09.

Thu May 03, 2007 7:29 pm

you can now pre order a copy of nba live 08 for PC too... so i think there will be a pc version

1000 bucks, and i thought i had it bad with the 600

Given that PC version has the same price tag as other current-gen console versions (PS2, xbox...), I guess this year's PC version is still a port from current-gen console versions....

but hopefully i will be wrong...

Fri May 04, 2007 4:32 am

price should not be an indication of what gen it will be, all pc games are cheaper. never really understood why, they just are

Fri May 04, 2007 5:11 am

well it is interesting, EBgames/gamestop doesnt have the PC version available for pre-order but the EA Store doesn't have the 360 version available yet.

So I wouldn't make any assumptions on whether or not we will get a PC version yet. It's too early.

Fri May 04, 2007 10:01 am

anyway im sure ... that game will suck

Fri May 04, 2007 12:09 pm

Sigh. We will get a PC version. It will be current-gen.

One day an announcement will be made. That announcement will be that EA is phasing out the current gen console version, which means they may not release a pc version. EA will then decide whether porting the next-gen version to their pc b-ball monopoly is cost effective. If it is, we will still probably have to go a year without a pc version.

Remember, the nextgen version has some seriously good graphics. But, it is designed with the console in mind, those console's are built exactly the same. On pc, not every system is the same. That means they have to make graphic options so different pc's will be able to run it.

In short, even if we do get a next gen port to pc, you will probably need a vista-capable pc to run it.

Well that's the thing, even for those who have one, it doesn't seem like there's any hope anytime soon. It will take forever to develop, and like you said, because Live's always been designed with console gaming in mind, it would probably not take full advantage of a high-end machine anyway... :(
I guess better gameplay for '08 is pretty much all you can hope for if you're a PC gamer.

Sat May 05, 2007 9:11 pm

yahh your right to bad for as PC gamers :(

Sun May 06, 2007 12:53 am

Just watched the video interview with 08 producer Brian Ullrich and he mentioned dunk and layup button will be combined together back again this year...

weired decision....??

he mentioned the dev team is now focusing on FUNDAMENTAL things of basketball in 08..really? I doubt it...

Most computers now days are Vista capable.

By the time EA phases out current gen (probably Live 09/10), every gaming computer will be Vista capable.

He mentioned that in the conference call as well. At the end of the day it's a pretty good decision in my opinion. I liked the idea of seperating the buttons for the greater amount of control it afforded us but it does give the user an opportunity to turn the game into a dunkfest and NBA Live 07 wasn't too smart about picking an appropriate shot attempt if you pressed dunk or layup a little out of a player's leaping distance. Plus the pro-hop function can be properly utilised again.

I suppose we'll have to wait and see how it pans out, though the fact they're not looking to add any new control methods or similar gimmicky features is encouraging. The video he showed us stressed a lot of subtle changes that they're focusing on that will hopefully add up to be a noticeable improvement when you actually play the game. Of course, I can't comment on how it feels to play the game just yet, though needless to say I'm hoping I get another opportunity to do a Community Day this year if one is held and they'll fly me over again.

Don't worry, Andrew. If they aren't willing to, I can be your official representative. :)

Thu May 10, 2007 5:44 am

just to stir up some more trouble, I got my ebgames.com newletter today and it said

New Face on a Classic Game

With the NBA playoffs well underway, Gilbert Arenas was recently announced as the cover athlete for NBA Live 08. The Washington Wizard guard, a.k.a. Agent Zero, has made a career out of proving critics wrong with his on-court toughness and self-assured swagger. Available this coming fall, NBA Live 08 will be available for PS2, PS3, PSP, Xbox 360, and Wii. Pre-order online now or reserve at your local EB Games or GameStop

No mention of the PC version. Commence worrying.

Thu May 10, 2007 6:42 am

I already pre-ordered the pc version from the EA store. Would they Lie?
Notice how they didn't even mention the Xbox.

Thu May 10, 2007 9:49 am

Hmmm, it'd be nice to have a direct confirmation from EA that a PC version will be released, otherwise PC users are pretty much screwed... :?

Thu May 10, 2007 10:32 am

as long as this community stays strong PC basketball fans will never be screwed.
