Look who's calling people idiots. The word "immigrant" has nothing to do with race either.

I'm not an idiot, I know what an immigrant is. Given the situation, I said "race" because of the killer being Asian and all. Like bighOrt said, this is not the place for jokes.

Does anyone think this could have been prevented? I don't. This guy obviously had mental problems.

Not prevented, but if they had armed security guards available and on patrol it could have been less deadly.

That may or may not be real, and I don't know where the thread he's talking about is other than somewhere on 4chan.org in the Random section.

Creepy, regardless.

There were a bunch of those "postings", but they'd been debunked by the site owner. Didn't see that one exactly.
interview on Paula Zahn’s show with Cho’s two roommates. The details aren’t online yet, but here’s the gist: he stalked three girls on the floor they lived on, including via instant messages he signed with a question mark; he once told his roommates that when he looked in one girl’s eyes he saw “promiscuity,” shortly after which they sent him to a counseling center on campus for a few nights; then, at some point after he was released, they went out drinking and he opened up to them, telling them he had an imaginary supermodel girlfriend … who called him “Spanky,” and whom he called “Jelly.” Oh, and he also liked to listen to “Shine” by Collective Soul over and over and over.

Virginia Tech is where went to college, it’s where my brother went to college, it’s where my sister went to college. We all went there and the decision was a no-brainer. There wasn’t another school in the country we wanted to go to.

Today, I’m wearing orange, one of Virginia Tech’s colors. The school colors are actually maroon and orange. I remember in college, and we didn’t love the color scheme— we thought the two colors clashed. Today, there is not another color I would rather be wearing.

When most people think of Virginia Tech, the very first thing that comes into mind is sports: football and basketball. All you would see during Virginia Tech’s football season was a sea of maroon and orange. You would hear the chant in the crowd. I can still hear it in my head, “Hokie, hokie, hokie high...Tech, Tech V-P-I.”

When you go to Tech, it’s in your blood. I think of the kind of camaraderie and the pride -- they call it “hokie pride.” It sounds corny, but it is how proud the students are of their school.

I never imagined that this is the way Virginia Tech would likely go down in history. I know everyone says that about their town: “Not my town, my town is a little town,” or “It would never happen in my neighborhood.”

But Virginia Tech is a place away from the big cities. It is away from the big city problems, away from all of it. It felt insulated. It felt safe. I never felt uncomfortable walking on that campus.

Then to hear what happened at Tech today, at my school. I couldn’t believe it—I still can’t.

It was all just so surreal today to see the images on television. You can’t help but look at those images. I have a girlfriend that’s a professor there. Was that her being carried out on a stretcher? Is she safe? I have friends who work on campus, friends in the communications department.

The school always meant something really warm and fuzzy to me. Today, I have a horribly sad feeling.

But I’m really hopeful because out of the worst tragedy, you watch people rise up. And it will happen on the campus of Virginia Tech.

Those students will rise up. I’ll bet on that.

In other news...70 men found executed in Iraq 2 weeks ago...

56 people killed in bombing on the 14th...

Sure the effects of violence upon families is easy to ignore on the other side of the world, but not once it hits home. Don't forget to say a prayer for the 250,000 odd families that are mourning losses in Iraq.

RIP to the Virginia State victims :(

How the fuck does Iraq get brought into this?

Wed Apr 18, 2007 3:50 pm

Im just suggesting people say a prayer for those innocent victims and their families while they are at it. Just thought id put it in perspective. No disrespect to the victims. We're all people, and all worthy of a prayer.

I think the saying goes, just because there's a correlation, there doesn't mean there is a connection (causation) ;)

Anyway, they blamed Marilyn Manson, violent tv shows, and violent video games, but IIRC, there was a study done that shows that being witness to such violence would prevent a person from acting it out. Then again, an argument could be made that such violence would desensitize the person, and thus enable the individual to carry it out. Either way, I'd never blame tv shows, music, or any other external influences as much as I'd blame (to a certain extent) parents and childhood trauma.

Silly media, Asians don't play video games, they program them.

You are 1000% correct, here. And I'm the one with a degree in Mathematics & Statistics. :D I wasn't thinking about it from a statistical standpoint, but the point holds that even if there is a correlation, it does not then follow that A implies B in a cause-and-effect type relationship. It is a logical fallacy.

Can we not use logic? Not a fan.

You know this thing really hit home today, I looked at some of the victims MySpaces. Seeing some of them with their last logins the day they died, comments from worried parents asking if they are ok and to call home... I still can't believe it. RIP to all those kids that were taken too early. My condolences go out to their family and friends.

Now that's...you know, I can't even describe what I feel right now (N) It's like a mix of sadness, anger, and just about anything you can imagine. I hope they go to jail or something like that.

Thu Apr 19, 2007 4:21 pm

Just keeps getting worse and worse. And the worst part, with all the press this kid is getting, is that all the other loons out there see that they too can become this famous if they commit an act like this. It's a real shame, and disheartening to me.
