In addition to the Toronto Raptors' makeover as a team in terms of roster personnel, the Raptors have also showed
that they are finally willing to take a big step into playoff contention when they hired former Phoenix Suns general
manager Bryan Colangelo as their president of basketball operations. After designing and creating the guns-ablazing
style of the Phoenix Suns (a team that is considered a legitimate contender for years to come), Colangelo brings
his impressive resume of basketball expertise to the Raptors. Colangelo has already made a numerous amount of moves,
and among them are the aquisitions of lightning quick T.J. Ford and well-rounded European youngster Andrea Bargnani
with the number one pick of the 2006 draft.

Staff Hirings

Along with the basketball players themselves, Colangelo also decided that the Raptors needed a definite fix-up in
the staff department. Not satisfied with the personnel that was currently on the Raptors at the time, Colangelo had
signed two new assistant coaches, two new scouts, and one new trainer. The staff budget for these signings were $2.26
million.

Assistant Coaches
Hoyle, a 39 year old assistant coach joins the Raptors with the solid understanding of the fundamentals of both offence
and defence. "Last season we simply didn't have the execution or the defence down the stretch to win ball games," says
Colangelo. "I feel that with Hoyle on this team, these problems can be put to rest."

Glenn Hoyle's Profile

The second assistant coming in for Toronto is Tyson Delk, a 48 year old that emphasizes quality practices and tough-
nosed style of play from all of his players. Delk is also known to help encourage players to work on their physical
health, making his development in player's speed, quickness and leaping ability one of his strengths.

Tyson Delk's Profile

Trainer
Mordecai Larson is Colangelo's new trainer for the Raptors. Although not very experienced, Colangelo believes he is
capable of helping the team. "He's got great understanding and knowledge and I'm sure he can grow as a trainer and
develop alongside our players," explains Colangelo. "We're a young team and as our players progress, I'm sure he will
as well."
Mordecai Larson's Profile

Scouts
A trend in Colangelo's off-season acquisitions seem to be overseas from Europe, with players like Anthony Parker and
Jorge Garbajosa being recently signed to the Raptors. With the signing of Casey Inman, Colangelo hopes to siphon the
talents of a different area from abroad. "Casey's a great scout who really understands talent. He's spent a lot of
time in Africa over these years and I think that he'll really help us find some gems in that area."

Casey Inman's Profule

Another scout that seems to have caught Colangelo's eye was Nicholas Yang. Yang has a less spectacular resume than
Inman, but he has an exceptional eye for finding players that can not only jump out of the gym, but have a well polished
offensive game as well.

Nicholas Yang's Profile

On the Outside Looking In
Raptor Invitees Anxious to Get Final Spot

Training Camp is a time normally of hard work; gruelling practices at early hours to re-acquaint the players with
the coaches and prepare themselves for yet another hectic 82 game season for the next six months. To people who
still dream of entering the NBA, training camp can serve as the perfect opportunity to show that they can still make
it in this league; one of the rare chances that a player barely gets. Some try to cash in on their skills; others are
players yet to live up to their expectations and are trying to prove the critics wrong; others simply just want to get
back to experiencing what it feels like to be with a team and playing the sport that they love.

Although that might seem a tad overdramatic, it applies for nearly all of the Raptor training camp invitees that were
chosen to participate with the team for their final roster spot. "I think that I've made quite a fair bit of moves
in the off-season," says Raptors General Manager Bryan Colangelo. "However I still feel that there are a few holes
our roster that I want to adress, particularly in the rebounding department. I also think that we could use an extra
swing-man on the team, and I think it's always important to have another point guard to fill-in for T.J. Ford and Jose
Calderon in case one of those two gets injured and we need a solid back-up replacement."

A potential help for Colangelo's needs are big men Marcus Haislip and Jelani McCoy. Haislip was a lottery pick drafted
by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2002. Considered one of the best athletes in the draft, Haislip brings an explosive verticle
leap to any team he plays on. However, the biggest weakness of his would be his lack of fundamentals, which is what
ultimately cost him his job for the Bucks. McCoy has had a journeyman-esque career, staying with a total of 5 teams
in his 7 year pro career; one of those teams being the Toronto Raptors, where he played on an injury ravenged '02-'03
Raptor squad. He saw career bests in nearly every category with the Raptors despite the fact that the Raptors were
suffering from injuries from nearly every key player on the team.

Three other 2002 lottery picks join Haislip in their bid for the 15th spot. Qyntel Woods was an extremely hyped ball
player coming out of College, even drawing comparisons to former Raptor and NBA superstar Tracy McGrady. However,
conflicts off the court soon become a problem for Woods but managed to achieve a career high in every major statiscal
category with the New York Knicks last season, who elected not to sign him despite not hearing a peep from Woods off the
court. Dajuan Wagner is another 2002 pick that flopped terribly; injuries destroyed what looked like a promising career;
forcing Wagner to remove his colon. Add that to the fact that Wagner is the cliched two guard in a point guard's body
and Wagner was erased from the memories of many NBA fans early in his career. His multi-talented scoring prowess has
always intrigued a team though, especially since his legendary triple digit scoring night in highschool that brought
him comparisons to the pint-sized scoring guard Allen Iverson. Jay Williams formerly of the Chicago Bulls also had
his career ravaged by a freak motorcycle accident that put up an immediate red flag about his future in the NBA even
though he showed signs of becoming one of the most talented point guards in the league during his rookie season.

Last but not least is D-League leading scorer Von Wafer. Wafer was a second rounder in 2005 but failed to make an
impression on Phil Jackson's Lakers so he was ultimately sent down to the D-League. He has now flourished there, using
his explosive scoring ability to become one of the most exciting players in the D-League. Unfortunately there are still
questions about whether or not he can handle the grind of an 82 game pro season.

Although in many people's minds these guys are down for the count when it comes to the NBA, Colangelo still has faith
in them. "You never know," Colangelo had said. "I think they just needed the right opportunity to show to others that
they can play in this league."

Hoyle and Delk Bring New Teachings to Toronto

In addition to getting the invitees accustomed to the Raptors system of running things, so too do the new assistant
coaches. "Tyson and Glenn probably run around the gym as much as the actual players do," remarks Raptor head coach
Sam Mitchell during an interview. "They're both very hard workers and are doing anything they can to help the players
get better."

Most of Tyson Delk's training revolves around his speciality, which are athletics. "He really knows how to motivate
players and get them to get into shape," weezes Raptor swingman Morris Peterson, who just recently participated in one
of Delk's drills. "Both of the new coaches really know how to run their practices."

Casey Inman however took a more defensive approach to his teachings. "This team sorely lacked in the defensive department
last season," says Inman. "I watched a lot of tape from last year and I realized how poorly structured Toronto's defence
was, especially during the fourth quarter when they tended to break down a lot." Inman says he already has won over
many of the players and Sam Mitchell himself. "Mitchell realizes that I not only help the players, but I also need to
help him as well," Inman had said. "A lot of the players have really tuned into what I've been trying to teach them
are picking up things really fast. Sam is also very open to suggestions from everyone including me so I think that we
can have a very healthy relationship here."

The Raptors will kick off their season at home by playing against the Utah Jazz on November 8.

Thank you. Although I'm not very good at making dynasties when it comes to graphics, I try to compensate for that by my writing.

I appreciate the fact that you're following. Hopefully you'll be the first of many.

wellcome to the list of dynasties keep the good work

Mon Apr 09, 2007 12:03 pm

Haaaaaaaaislip! He's playing awesome in my dynasty, I hope he makes the team. He dropped something like 10 and 7 in my last game in around 10-15 mins. If you do grab him, just be sure to increase his 3 point rating up to around high 50's or low 60's. He was a good 3 point shooter in college but didn't really show it in his limited time in the league. Qyntel Woods would be nice too, he's a good player.

Hopefully you can equal what the Raptors have done this season. Good luck.

Haislip is currently one of my top candidates along with Jay Will (feel sorry for the dude) and Woods (I liked how he played with the Knicks, I wonder why they didn't re-sign him) for the 15th spot, but it is an interesting point that you bring up on Haislip's three ball ability, it makes him all the more intriguing as a prospect.

The Raptors are a little soft up front even though they have quite a few power fowards. Do you think Haislip has the strength to play centre?

Mon Apr 09, 2007 7:58 pm

Aaargh God dammit. I "posted" an in depth post about Haislip and exited before I pressed submit. :x

Anyway, it depends on the roster. I'm using Andrews latest roster for 07 converted and I'm not sure in the differences ratings wise between Haislip in your roster and mine. In my dynasty I play Haislip at C when Ben and PJ are tired, and he plays well. He usually gets around 8-10 minutes and at least during half of them he plays at center, so I would say he is adequate to play the spot. Not the greatest defensively against other C's (quite good defence when playing players around 6-10 and under though, speed and shot blocking are both pretty good, decent strength). His strength probably isn't too good against centers though, but he makes up for it offensively IMO.

By the way, his midrange game is nice. Although he only shoots about 3-5 shots per in my dynasty he hits a couple 15-20 foot jumpers quite often. He has made more of an impact than I though, and he earned his place as the backup C and 3d string PF, leaving almost no time to Sweets.

Good luck man (Y)

Raptors High on Haislip
Lanky Big Man Signed to One Year Deal

October 30, 2006

With training camp finally coming to a close, it was announced today that Bryan Colangelo has officially signed three
year pro Marcus Haislip to a contract with the Toronto Raptors. The 6'10 power foward has spent time in the Turkish
Basketball League as an all-star, but has recently decided to return to North America to give the NBA another shot
when he was invited to the Raptors training camp.

"I think I learned a lot overseas," says Haislip during the press conference that announced that he has made the team.
"I know that I was a very raw player coming out of the draft, so it probably was the best thing for me to get a better
understanding of the game in Europe." He also later added "It will definitely help me play better along with the other
European players on this team."

Haislip was a lottery pick in 2002, being selected at 13th overall. He was praised for his incredible leaping ability
but was also criticized for his unpolished game. ""First of all, he's a great kid, a very hard working person and
that's what impressed me the most about him," said assistant coach Glenn Hoyle, who was in charge of evaluating the
training camp invitees that were potential candidates for the final roster spot. "He's also got great length and can
run the floor very well for someone his size. I like the shot blocking presence he can bring to this team and I'm very
confident that he can add a few more pounds for us and play centre. Playing overseas has really refined his game."

Haislip still has a long way to go in terms of making an impact on the team though. Ahead of him on the depth chart
is Jorge Garbajosa, Andrea Bargnani, and of course Chris Bosh. Kris Humphries, Pape Sow and Uros Slokar should also
give Haislip a run for his money and if Hoyle truly belives that the Raps will play him at centre, he will also need
to get past Rasho Nesterovic as well.

Despite being buried on the bench below players that have most likely already earned their place in the lineup, Marcus
Haislip is not worried at all. "I just have to show this team what I'm capable of and do what I do best which is to
work hard and block some shots."

Raptors Stop Late Jazz Comeback

November 8, 2006

The Toronto Raptors managed to open their season in a dramatic fashion after a near fourth quarter collapse. Toronto
led by as many as 27 in the first half, holding a 54-27 lead by half-time against the Jazz which was sparked by the
Raptors renewed commitment to defence. After being near the bottom in the league in defence, the Raptors held the Jazz
to only 27% for the first two quarters.

Chris Bosh says he notices the dramatic difference from last year. "I really liked the energy that the new guys have
brought to this team." Bosh finished the game with a game-high 20 points and topped it off with 16 rebounds and 4
assists. "We didn't let them score in the first half but we kind of got back into old habits in the second half."

The Raptor meltdown began in the fourth quarter when the Raptors went a dismal 6-18 from the field after shooting 70%
in the second quarter. Andrei Kirilenko had 8 of his 16 points in the quarter to cut Toronto's lead down to just 12.
Things looked even worse for the Raptors after the Jazz went on a 10-2 run to narrow the lead down to 7 with 4 minutes
remaining in the fourth quarter.

After a brief timeout by Raptor head coach Sam Mitchell, Mitchell subbed in the newly acquired Marcus Haislip, who
became the unsung hero for Toronto. Haislip tallied 6 points in the final 4 minutes as he made an impressive display
where he had a nasty one handed jam off a no-look pass from Chris Bosh. He then followed it up with a reverse layup
and a jumphook to put the Raptors back on top, 76-65 as the Jazz would not get any closer afterwards.

"He sung back the momentum in our favour after that dunk," said Joey Graham, who recorded 13 points and 3 steals off
the bench. "He got the fans off their seat and we fed off of that energy to finish the game off."

LeBron's 3 Sinks Raptors

November 13, 2006

With only 30.8 seconds remaining in the game, LeBron James managed to once again prove why he was selected as the first
overall pick of the 2003 ahead draft ahead of the likes of Chris Bosh. James netted a game high 25 points on 12-18
shooting. James also only sank one of his three three-point attempts, but that three pointer gave the Cavaliers the
go-ahead basket in the fourth quarter to win the game.

"I was given a little bit of space so I thought to myself that I can make this shot," said James. "Even though I had
missed all of my three pointers before but I knew that I would make this shot."

"We broke down defensively," replied Raptors head coach Sam Mitchell when he was asked about the last shot by Cleveland.
"Our players got hung up on the screen that was set for LeBron and being the superstar that he was, he made us pay for
it."

The game itself was extremely close throughout the first three quarters with the Raptors on top for most of the game
and even had a 78-70 lead on the Cavs at the 3 minute mark through the fourth quarter. However, the Raptors' offence
became stagnant as they missed 7 consecutive shots prompting the Cavs to go on a 10-2 run to tie the game at 80.

Joey Graham hit one of two free throws with 46 seconds remaning, but LeBron James eventually answered back with a three
at the other end. Chris Bosh could not respond as he missed the final shot of the game.

"I definitely feel disappointed in myself for missing that free throw," said Graham after the game. "I was feeling
good throughout the entire game but that final moment ruined it for me and my teammates." Graham isn't hanging his
head though. "This is only going to motivate me to play harder and hopefully the next time a similar situation comes,
I'll be more ready for it."

Bosh Brings Raps Back on Track

November 20, 2006

After coming off a heart breaking loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the dying seconds of the game, Chris Bosh and
the Toronto Raptors would make sure that they would finish the game strong. Bosh had continued his strong start to
the season by netting 26 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists. 8 of Bosh's points came during the fourth quarter down
the stretch to insure that the Raptors would come up with the victory.

The Raptors also converted 8 of their 18 three pointer attempts, a sharp contrast to their 4 for 23 performance during
the game against the Cavaliers. "We definitely moved the ball a lot more and got some easy shots," said Antohny Parker.
Parker had 17 points, 12 of which came from beyond the arc and missed only twice throughout the entire game. "Last
game we kind of dug ourselves into a hole because we shot too many contested threes, but this time around we got the
ball inside first, and then kicked it out to our shooters."

Mike Woodson gives credit to the Raptors, rough interior play. "Bosh and Graham really gave us troubles on the inside,"
Woodson replied after being asked what led to the Hawks interior breakdown. "It all started with guys just not giving
enough of an effort on boxing out and they got 19 offensive rebounds. That's inexcuseable."

Atlanta was trailing 54-41 in the third quarter, but Josh Childress scored 9 points in the third, including a hail-mary
three pointer from half court to make it only a four point game. Instead of breaking down defensively like they had
done last game against the Cavaliers, the Raptors battled back in the fourth, with a clutch three pointer by Andrea
Bargnani. Bargnani followed it up with a steal at the other end and a fast break dunk to push the lead back to nine.
A few minutes later, Bargnani buried a three from the top of the circle to extend the lead once again to double digits,
87-75 as the Atlanta Hawks would not bring the score back down to single digits from there on after.

"I think I could've played better," Bargnani said, referring to his 6 for 16 shooting and the fact that he made only
one free throw out of six. "I'm still young and it's still my third game, so I know I'll try to improve one game at
a time."

Yeah Joey Graham has some pretty good ratings in the game, especially his strength. I just put him at the shooting guard posiiton and he'd just back 'em down for an easy two or get fouled. I wonder why Graham doesn't ever do that in real life, he'd honestly be a legit 10-15 point per game scorer if he did.

[Raptors Burned by Suns

November 20, 2006

Image98 Image81

Click on the team logos for boxscores

The Raptors managed to keep up with the Phoenix Suns' break-neck speed for the first quarter, but after that everything
simply went down hill from there. The Raptors shot a season low 37% from the field and 27% from beyond the arc. They
also committed 19 turnovers, many of which were unforced.

"It was ugly, that's all I'm going to say," says a frustrated Chris Bosh. The Raptors' star foward hit only 6 of 18
shots from the field for only 12 points and also committed 3 turnovers. "We didn't come prepared. End of discussion."

Not only did Bosh struggle mightily, but so did the number one pick, Andrea Bargnani. Bargnani had the Raptors' team
high of 18 points, but did so by playing selfish ball and hitting only 5 of his 19 shot attempts. Bargnani along with
Bosh were met with boos after they were both benched by head coach Sam Mitchell during the beginning of the fourth
quarter.

Bargnani was blocked 3 consecutive times by Amare Stoudemire at the offensive end, prompting the firey Raptor coach
to send him to the bench. Phoenix scored on all three posessions after the 3 Stoudemire blocks, with mainly Stoudemire
and Boris Diaw easily driving past Bargnani to score.

"It is no suprise to me that our fans booed us, especially with the way we played," said a disappointed Joey Graham,
who seemed to share the same expression with the rest of the Raptors in the lockerroom. "We were booed early on last
season during my rookie year. I understand that our fans were disappointed with the effort that we put out and I think
that they were right."

The Raptors were heralded as the Phoenix Suns of the East after they had signed former Suns General Manager Bryan
Colangelo, the architect of the Suns' fast break style of offence. However, Toronto ran out of gas by the second
quarter attempting to mimick the Phoenix Sun's up-tempo style of basketball, allowing two-time MVP Steve Nash to score
17 of his 29 points in the second quarter alone. After the half, the Raptors' scoring totals for each of the quarters
dimished, going from a poor 17 points in the third quarter to an even more pathetic 12 points in the fourth.

"It was a great win for us," says Suns foward Boris Diaw. Diaw had finished with a solid 15 points and 5 boards. "I
think that we took the fight to them and forced them to play our style of basketball." When asked whether or not he
thinks that the Raptors would excel as a fast-break team Diaw agreed, but to a certain extent. "They've got some quick
guys, but sometimes they just don't execute. Just because you run up and down the court doesn't mean that you stop
executing your offence."

Why this dynasty has so less replies? :?

Interesting read as always Its_asdf (Y) Haislip at center is interesting, looking forward for the next matches

Fri Apr 20, 2007 7:08 am

Thank you Marquis. I guess my dynasties aren't really that good to begin with and there are a lot of good ones going on right now so I guess its only natural that I don't get a lot of replies.

Anyway, this dynasty is over due to technical problems anyway (tried simming past November but I keep getting some dbf error, I guess I didn't edit Haislip properly or something), but its not like anyone followed my dynasty anyway.
