2007: Possibly the best year for gaming?

Tue Mar 13, 2007 1:21 pm

EGM, a well known video game magazine recently stated that 2007 can possibly be the best year for gamers all around. Every single system is getting absolutely must-have games. Titles like Halo 3, Mario, Final Fantasy, Assassin's Creed among many many others (they were the only ones that popped up in my head :P ) give many gaming fans something to look for, and alot of dates on their calendars marked (assuming some people do that). As a PSP owner, I'm glad that the PSP is getting it's fair share of must have titles for 2007 as well.

After getting Smackdown vs Raw 2007 and witnessed how much it sucked, I began having second thoughts about my PSP. I was on the verge of getting a DS, but got a PS2 instead, just so I can play Bully, GoW I and II, Yakuza and NBA 2K7. But then the PSP became lively with many must get titles for PSP owners. There was Tekken DR, GTA VCS, Metal Gear Solid PO, Lumines II, Daxter, and finally, the PSP has some titles that can actually sway a potential buyer to buy the system just to play titles like that. Why? Originality.. previous PSP titles consisted mainly of half assed PS2 ports, and the PSP quickly came to be seen as generally a portable PS2. The PSP desperately needed some exclusive titles in order to be seen in it's own light, and 2006 did just that. 2007 is already rolling, and there are even more must own titles that would make a PSP owner drool.

2007 Lineup:
(imo)
Elder Scrolls Travel: The Oblivion [16/04/2007]
Valhalla Knights [17/04/2007]
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas [24/04/2007]
Dungeons & Dragons:Tactics [29/05/2007]
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter II [05/06/2007]
Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core [15/06/2007]
Silent Hill: Origins [ August 2007]
Monster Hunter Freedom II [September 2007]
Gran Turismo 4 Mobile [ Q3 2007]
Manhunt 2 [Q3 2007]
Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles [Q3 2007]
WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2008 [Q4 2007]
God of War PSP [TBA 2007]

PSP owners, what do you guys think? Others, what are the games that you're looking forward to in 2007, possibly the greatest year(?) yet in gaming releases.

I'm personally stoked as a PSP owner, never before have I had so many games to look forward to owning, (which means a hefty dent in the wallet for me too  ) I'm a big fan of wrestling (some might tell that it's obvious  ) and a big fan of shooters, rpg's and action games. But who am I kidding, those genres has to be amongst the favorite amongst many gamers. Personally, I'd like to see Bully and Yakuza to the PSP ( I know I know, more PS2 ports, but hey, they are must-haves as well, it's because of these games that I decided to get a PS2 again :( )

EDIT: Also forgot to mention, Pro Wrestling X is slated to be released during 2007 as well for the PC :D

I've been getting the Pro Wrestling X newsletter for as long as I can remember :D

but how could you forget about GTA: IV? NBA 2k8 I'm sure is going to improve a already fantastic basketball game, never mind the new All Pro Football 2k8. I believe there is a new Flatout game in production for next gen systems (flatout 2 was given the best racing game of 2006 award). Then there is Bioshock for the PC and 360 this year along with Army of Two and Unreal Tournament 3. And Battlefield: Bad Company. And my most anticipated Spore for the PC.

Whew....thats like $500 of just games alone...damn.

That little PSP can do some quite amazing things. I'm surprised to see Elder Scrolls there.

I'm more of a PC gamer, so I can only comment on the games of 07 that I will be anticipating.

I can't wait for Crysis, but since it looks like it will be a DX10 game, I will probably have to upgrade. Hellgate: London and BioShock looks like they will be badass. I am also anticipating Half Life 2:Episode 2 along with Portal and Team Fortress.

GTA: IV, NBA 2k8, Crysis possibly Gears of War 2. Gonna be a good year for gaming.

Crysis is the leader in DX10...yet it runs off DX9

Thats good to know, but I'd rather play it with all the eye candy. It still looks good with dx9, thanks for the link.

Geez, I can't believe I missed GTA :doh And I never knew Flatout 2 won the best racing game... the whole game looks like a joke imo. And it's almost about damn time... after several years of planning, Pro Wrestling X is slated to be released for Q4 2007. Personally, I'm absolutely stoked about it to the point where I even sent them straight cash for a pre-order. But what can I say, I love wrestling.

I'm Looking forward too Virtua Tennis 3 for the 360 and PS3, it's coming out real soon. :D

I, um, had a friend at my old college who somehow got Flatout 1 when it was released in Europe so I got to play Flatout 1 before it ever got to the states. Flatout 2 is pretty much just like a blend of the first one and Burnout 2.

If you get a chance def check it out, or at least get the demos of both games.

As a PSP owner I can't wait. But I know in the back of my mind only maybe half of those games will end up being good. I was looking forward to Call of Duty for the PSP, and now i hear theres no online, which is pretty essential for a FPS game. Especially seeing how good Medal of Honors online was for the PSP. Hopefully GT4 Mobile does come out, I played Gran Turismo 2 for the PS1 on my psp, and even that game was fun on my psp. Still can't wait to 'get' those games.
As for other console games, anything for the PS3 I can't wait, looking forward to Spore, GTIV (if its even coming out this year), of course NBA 2k8, oh and also Home online for the PS3, I just want to see if it actually turns out as good as it seems.

GTA:IV has been announced for October 16th (or 17th), 2007. The countdown for the first trailer started earlier this month on the official website. http://www.rockstargames.com/IV/

meh. I'd rather have them make Top Spin 2 for the ps3.

Sun Mar 18, 2007 10:53 am

Top Spin 2 sucked. Virtua Tennis is probably the best tennis game around. Another game im looking forward to this year is Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, ive been a massive fan of the series and i might have to purchase a PS3 simply for this game unless it comes out on 360 which i doubt.

Sun Mar 18, 2007 2:18 pm

Was it any better than the original Top spin?

its all about grand theft auto. these are always the best games(even back in the top down days). every time they give us a new one is it just so much better than the last. gtasa was amazing and still my fav game. not sure where they are going with 4 from the trailer, maybe some grander scale terrorist activities?
