Upgrades/'Things you've done in anticipation for Live 2004

I just upgraded from an athlon 2600xp to a 3000 Barton 400 FSB Athlon processor, upgraded my ATI 9700 pro to a 9800 pro and from a 512mb 2700 Ram to 1GHZ of 3200 Ram. I also sold my 21 inch monitor on ebay to purchase a 19 inch LCD monitor. I think im all set for the game now and im pretty excited. Now im completely broke

Damn! EY you got it, use it. More power to you bro!--my system should be good still might get a new video card for 2005 though. I'm sure I'll be able to max it out still with high resolution.

my machine is almost the same as yours~
the only different is the processor, mine is xp2100

what's your setting on live 2003 ?
i play it on 1280 x 1024 with all max. details :wink:

i think ours are enough for playing in 2004
without too much performance drop off comparing to 2003

i played 2003, everything maxed out --at 1600x 1200? It ran great, that's why I'm not really sweatin 2004. But yeah, we should be good to go.

I run 2003 at 800x600 with all details set to low except player detail at medium. Anything higher and I get very choppy graphics. I want a new comp, but my dad might not buy one for a while. I'll still be able to play 2004 I figure, just not very good. I might be able to convince my dad to buy a graphics card.

Haven't made any upgrades yet, but hopefully will do so in the near future. I'll probably be playing Live 2004 at the lower detail settings, as I did with Live 2003 - at least for the short term.

I was one of those people who was running live 2003 low since i only had a pentium II 400mhz

I wanna upgrade my graphics card and i'm set

I was fortunety at the time i was upgrading my comp since it was mid year and all the components were relatively cheap :wink:

Well, looks like i'll be playing live '04 on low detail settings again. My machine is getting old.

128 RAM
GeForce 4 MX (which i bought today for live 04...didn't make a huge difference to live 2003 compared to a GF 2 MX though.

I don't think the game will be playable on that computer though. Too little RAM and to few Mhz's.

I will be upgrading from a P3 450mhz to a AMD Atholn Xp 2600+, 512 DDR, GeForce FX 5600 Ultra 128.

I had to do a lil bit of overhauling with my PC's as well. My GF4 ti4200 crapped out on me so I had to get a new one. Been getting bits and pieces here and there myself, nothing major but hopefully everything is all well when I get that copy of Live 2004.

I just upgraded my specs...but it wasn't really cause of live 2004.

Used to have...

- 1000 mhz AMD athalon (purchased in August 2001)

-Geforce 2 mx (purchased same time)

I now have..

- Pentium 4 2800 mhz with 533 mhz FSB

- 512mb DDR ram @ 333 mhz

-My graphics card is the same as from last year (Geforce 4 Ti 4200)
but i might upgrade to a ATI radeon 9800. If live 2004 doesn't get run at 60fps them something seriously wrong with the programmers.

nice systems...but i think this is much more important...

i think i'll need to clear some disk space by burning files onto a CDR or CDRW. Then i'll need to reinstall windows so that i can have a fresh OS...no use in having a slow boot up that wastes time. Speaking of time, maybe it IS time to defrag that drive..can't have the PC search and search the files it needs to make live run. And finally, time to clean the PC. Yeah..really clean the casing, keyboard,mouse,speakers,etc. I get so much dust at home that within a week, i probably could cover a pothole.

well i think that's that. I believe my PC can handle the game without much fuss. As long as the game ain't choppy, it'll be fine...

How many HDD's do you have? If you have just the one drive, I suggest you download clearhdd.exe from samsung.com. You can format your drive in 15 secs and will clear everything 'til your HDD is back to factory settings. And the file is only about 10kb's small.

well i spent $184

I was going to upgrade my machine to a radeon 9700 ($250) and a CPU upgrade ($125), but instead i decided to get all NBA games early.

I bought a gamespot refurb xbox ($149), bought the modchip $35, and threw in a old 40 gig drive.

I never owned any console before and after renting espn football, ncaa football, i can't wait to rent inside drive, espn basketbal, and nba live 2004.

The LCD monitor i bought isnt as good as i'll like it to be im afraid. the reds in it look hue-ish orange. It throws off the courts of NY, Chicago, Miami and a few others. Hey guys, learn from my mistake, Don't replace your CRT to get a LCD to play games. The CRT does colors a lot better. im returning the LCD i bought to get another CRT

Thanks for the tip..i'll try this file as soon as i download it.
I have 3 HDD, a 60 and 2 40 gig drives. These are mostly used for video edting, web designing and computer programming....hm..count in the anime episodes i've collected....they eat a lot of space...but since some of the files are not being used, might as well burn them on CDR and store it away.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!! don't buy that card!
Stay the hell away from it like the plague!..that POS was Nvidia's biggest mistake..it's not even listed on their website anymore..they 'conveniently' dismissed it.

The fan is LOUD AS HELL...and that's before you run any 3D apps...and it takes up two slots (AGP AND your first PCI). The chip is just way too hot.

If you want something good go with a Radeon 9700 pro or 9800 pro. The ATI R300 is just flat out better than the FX series.
You'll really regret buying an FX when you start playing DirectX 9 games utilizing lots of shader functions. Even their new FX5900Ultra sucks compared to the Radeon 9800pro when it comes to shader speed. Check it out:

Keep in mind the PS2.0 graph is the most significant since dx9.0 utilizes pixel shader 2.0.

Stay away from this generation of Nvidia products until they release the NV40.
