As for the Zune itself....it is really a nice mp3 player.....id say its better then any ipod.......what do u guys think that have one?

Wed Mar 14, 2007 12:01 am

Better than any iPod? Are you on crack or something?
Just the fact that it's made by Microsoft makes me think it is possibly the worst multimedia player in the market.

Wed Mar 14, 2007 6:06 am

Zune is alot better then you think.....maybe you should read some reviews for yourself......

anyways....anyone at all have a zune....and has their own thoughts about it...??

The iPod is a fashion statement. Piss off with your Apple cocksucking, there are better MP3 Players out there that don't force you to work with iTunes.

You couldn't be more correct. It's not like iPods are some magical mp3 player that offers this, that, and the other thing. In the grand scheme of things, they are very average, and for what they do, tremendously overpriced, as are most apple products. However, nobody beats Mac with the way they market their product, and their sleek designs that do, in fact, make products like their iPods extremely fashionable to have. But to say that they're even an above average mp3 player is just plain silly.

My point exactly. All the pretty boys (no wonder Joe loves it that much) and ditz's want an iPod.

People who actually do research about a technological gadget and actually take the time to weigh the pro's & con's of a product they're going to pay big money for don't end up buying the iPod. It's pricey, it's not the most user friendly thing out there and did I mention it's pricey?

It's because everyone has an iPod, everyone wants an iPod. It isn't about the music anymore, it's about the iPod itself. People don't say they have an MP3 player, they have an iPod. Fuck that, this is why I respect the Sony W Series of phones, they give you the best possible technology at small prices. You can call with it, you can listen to music and you can take decent imaged pictures with it.

Nah, people of today, it's more style over subtance. Ah whatever...

Yep, I use my cell phone as well for mp3 listening. I don't even need to use a heavy program to transfer files, Windows Explorer does the trick. Plus I can use the mp3s for other use such as ringtones and alarm clocks. Haven't really had a need for a mp3 player for a long time, maybe a bigger memory card if something.

Wed Mar 14, 2007 7:54 am

I've been looking for a nice mp3 phone...anyone got any that would work with verizon?

Wed Mar 14, 2007 12:06 pm

My LG Chocolate is through Verizon and has mp3 capabilities.

Wed Mar 14, 2007 2:23 pm

Last summer I bought a flash drive/mp3 player for like $80. One day I forgot to take it out of my pocket and it got washed. So I dried it out and the next morning it worked fine. To this day it works like a charm. I bought a program that can convert just about any sound file to MP3, even ones off Itunes. I think it cost $10 or $15. Then I got a cord for like $8 that goes into any head phone jack. I dont know how much an Itrip or whatever cost. But hey heck of a lot cheaper than getting an ipod.

I beg to differ. I'm hairy as fuck, look like a drug addict and have long hair that's forming its own dreadlocks, but I came to the decision that I wanted an Ipod

I did a heap of research before I got mine recently. I asked friends who had an ipod, plus a competitors model, to see what their view was. I read a hell of lot of articles on the various options, plus borrowed friends for a day or two to see which I preferred. I did find it the most user friendly, and combined with my student discount very affordable against its competitors.

It's because everyone has an iPod, everyone wants an iPod. It isn't about the music anymore, it's about the iPod itself. People don't say they have an MP3 player, they have an iPod. I think a hell of a lot of people own them for a reason. Part of that can be attributed to marketing, but a lot has to be due to the quality of the product itself. I'm not the kind of person that will brag about my ipod, show it off at uni, or wear it like a badge of fuckin wealth, superiority or 'coolness'. I use it to listen to the shitload of cd's that I own, especially while studying so I don't go crazy. On same grounds I bought a macbook, which only having it for a few weeks, has made my life so much easier than when I used my dell PC. I based that purchase on 100's of reviews I read as it was a large investment of my hard earnt (and minute amount of) capital.

So while some people may fit into your gross generalisation, I wouldn't go so far as pigeon holing everybody with an ipod into that catergory. Some people, like myself, come to the subjective decision that it is the best option available, to best suit what i want an mp3 player for. Heck I like using iTunes, the round circle controller thingy on the front, and being able to rate my songs so I can create a playlist of my favourite Britpop bands. I like being able to demo my songs and upload them so I can listen to them and consider what productive steps I can do next with them. I refused to but an iPod until recently because I wanted better battery life, smaller size, and graphic equaliser on board. I don't listen to the radio, so that wasn't a necessity, I don't want a direct line in.

So while you may despise this product cause everybody has them, perhaps you should consider that not all people buy them for the reasons you so claim. Maybe people buy them cause they work well, are easy to use and meet there needs.

Wed Mar 14, 2007 11:27 pm

You're one of the few that actually researched it. Perhaps people in the States are different, but over here it's purely a fashion statement. 1 in 10 people would probably be able to tell me I looked at brand x, y & z before I decided on the iPod.

I'm still not sold on the fact that people buy them because they work well, meet their needs and are easy to use. All those needs can be addressed at a way cheaper price. Marketing is the biggest factor, not ease of use or addressing your needs. Pff...

I don't despise the product, I don't know where you got that from, but if that's what my post translated in to for you, good riddance. I was merely irritated at the fact that Joe boy there seemed to have a spasm attack when someone else mentioned they thought the Zune was better than the iPod. That's what irritated me, the act of "what, anything better than the iPod? You must be on crack."

You felt insulted because I generalised the buyers of the iPod but I still stick to it, you're an exception, every generalisation has an exception but you're straying from the point I was trying to make. There is better shit out there than the iPod. Something that Joe can't believe.

For the record, my best friend has an iPod & my sister has an iPod. So to say I hate the thing...hehe, nevermind.

I didn't state the iPod was the best multimedia player, I just stated it was better than the Zune. I didn't have a spasm attack, I just think the Zune isn't as good as the iPod, I'm sorry if I overreacted.
I'm not a pretty boy (actually, I'm short, fat, have pimples all over my face, messy hair, and I dress and act the exact opposite to most fifteen-year-old Italian kids just to show I'm different and I'm proud of it) and I don't do something because someone else does.

Anyways, I don't know you but I just love working with iTunes, it keeps your music organized and when you sync your iPod, it automatically refreshes its music library, plus I haven't seen any other multimedia player out there that has the charge & sync feature.
Along with Creative's, audio quality on iPods is probably the best, iPod videos are encoded using the amazing H-264 codec, you have your music organized as you want on any iPod (except Shuffles), cover art looks gorgeous, battery life isn't the best but who
needs to play more than 12-14 hours of music consecutively?

You can't do this stuff on multimedia players so easily as you do on the iPod. You calling it not user friendly is just crazy.
As for the price: The 30 gig iPod is pricing 249$ (289€ almost everywhere in Europe); The 30 gig Creative Zen and Micropoop's Zune (the two main competitors of the iPod) are exactly the same price in both US and Europe.

If you think there are better MP3 players out there, well, since it's not a matter of fact, just keep it as an opinion: people have different opinions, life itself is made of different perspectives and opinions, not everyone thinks the same as you.

It's not that I can't believe there is better shit out there: it's not a fact that there is better shit out there, it's just different opinions.
I do believe there are people who think there's better shit than the iPod and I respect their opinion, you should respect people's opinions too.

Thu Mar 15, 2007 6:21 am

You talk about respecting other people's opinion yet your initial response was asking the person if he was on crack. Yeah, very respecatable. Who are you kidding here?

Thu Mar 15, 2007 6:29 am

If you only read my last post, you could notice I apologized...

Thu Mar 15, 2007 6:48 am

I did read your post, it's nice you apologized but I don't see why you'd bring up respecting others' views etc after that.

Anyways, all's well so I'm done here.

Thu Mar 15, 2007 6:49 am

I would never buy an iPod, as I think they're overpriced garbage and can't stand Apple's "OMG MAKE EVERYTHING OVERWHELMINGLY WHITE" mindset, but the competitors aren't making it easy. They've all been making 2 GB flash players, which I have no use whatsoever for, since I have well over 4,000 audio files (the vast majority of them encoded with Ogg Vorbis, something that Apple doesn't care to support despite it being a superior lossy codec to the 20-year-old MP3 standard).

I grabbed an iRiver H-120 before they stopped making them (20 GB hard drive player) which was the best purchase I ever made. It could play any format using the third-party Rockbox firmware, had plenty of space, and was solidly made.

Unfortunately it finally kicked the bucket a few weeks ago, and I've been looking around for another one and the only worthwhile option seems to be the iAudio X5, which is a great player but it was released several years ago and I like new shiny things. I'll probably end up getting it anyway since it's a nice product.

Thu Mar 15, 2007 6:55 am

I've got a Philips GoGear of 30 Gigs which I bought for 100 Euro's. I threw in 60 bucks for a couple of Sennheiser headphones and I couldn't be happier.

I'm only using like 7 Gigs out of it all and that's ALL my music. Spanish, English and Hindi. Go figure.

A friend bought the 30 Gig iPod for around 230 but decided to return it because he needed the money. (Hey, we're students paying our own rent and shit, shush.)

I would never trust a Zune vs. iPod comparison from a website called "zunerama.com". I mean they have a link at the bottom saying "Get your Zune"

I have had a 30 gig iPod since last Christmas and I love it. It was great for the bus rides I had to take for basketball at VTC and I still use it pretty much everyday either for driving or hooking it into my 360. When I was working at staples I got to mess around with the Zune and I just didn't really like it, except for the FM Tuner. But thats just my 2 cents.

Thu Mar 15, 2007 11:50 pm

Regarding the iPod, I got a Nano for Christmas, and I simply love it. Sure, it's expensive and it doesn't have as many features as its competitors do, but I simply love it. Apple really paid a lot of attention to the aesthetics and design of this gadget, and it's a great example of "form follows function." It's very intuitive and easy to use and I really don't need to use it other than to listen to music and easily put it away in my pocket when I'm not using it. Maybe I'm used to bitching about having to recharge my cell phone all the time, but I find that the battery life for the Nano is awesome, and since I'm always around my computer, recharging it is a snap. I'm not sure why BigKaboom doesn't like the white, but I find that the non-chromatic color is aesthetically pleasing (the Nano body is actually silver) and from a marketing standpoint, it's what sets them apart from the crowd. I have no complaints with the Nano, but I have no doubt that there could be a better player, except I don't need a different player.

my ipod got stolen the other night, and i am as shitty as hell. Dont know if i should replace what i had (30gig video), or go something new.

Shitty as hell.

Mine 60 gig photo gave out on me after a year. $400 dollars later I'm without any mp3 player and pissed off! It was just a week out of warranty and they would do nothing...customer service my ass.
