Worst trades ever?

What team do you think made the worst trades ever?

I think that Milwaukee has made some terrible decisions, such as the Nowitski deal in 98, and the ray allen deal in 03.

the trading of Dirk to Dallas for the draft rights to ROBERT TRAYLOR was a bad one. but of course Milwaukee didn't know what they had at that time.

I know the Nets didn't exactly have much of a choice, but how about Julius Erving being traded to the 76ers for... 3 million?

How about the Hornets trading Kobe for Divac.

Orlando trading Shaq wasn't very intellingent too.

Shaq didn't get traded from Orlando, he signed with the Lakers after becoming a free agent, turning down a bigger deal from the magic because he wanted to play for Los Angeles.

Lakers lost out on the Shaq deal with Miami, it was basically Odom for Shaq which got the Heat a championship. They got Caron Butler also but let him go, they look a bit like fools now i guess seeing as hes an all star.

Well, Lakers complicated their chances of getting another ring in the Kobe era, when they traded Shaq.

I think we can sympathise with teams who traded guys like Kobe and Nowitzki because they werent willing to take the risk. The worst trade in recent history imo was the Vince Carter to Nets trade. Mourning (who was released) and Alvin and Aaron Williams. Thank God the Raptors have now got Colangelo.

Colangelo has brought the Raps around full circle.

I love watching their games. Calderon is gonna be a great point guard. TJ Ford is fun to watch also.

i dont understand why people consider this a bad trade. imo a bad trade is when teams trade away players who are too young or because they dont like thier image, or possible because they just dont know who they have. vince was playing hurt to get traded. he was not doing anything for toronto and everyone in the league knew it. they were not going to get anything at all of value for vince. they just wanted to dump him before he brought down thier team any futher. sure it was a bad deal as they probably could have nabbed at leasty a second round pick or something but i dont see how it can be called the worst ever.

when martin was traded from nj to denver people called that the worst trade ever. now in that deal martin was gonna leave anyway so they took what they could get and hell, what has martin done since anyway lol.


imo i still say the worst trade ever is when golden state traded away thier 3rd pick in the draft and robert parish for the 1st and 13th pick from the celtics. as most people know by now both the picks golden state took turned into trash and the celtics ended up with one of the best frontline in basketball.

other bad deal are trades like the kobe one, and the dirk one. nothing worse than trading away potential before you get to see what that potential can turn into.

yes, but the trades like carter ones were bad because carter was worth alot more.

Interesting take. I can't say I completely disagree as trades like the Carter to New Jersey deal are examples of a team's hand being forced and taking whatever they can get in return to accommodate a player who wants out, which makes labelling it a bad trade a little unfair. However, at the end of the day when you're looking at the players trading places and who got the better end of the deal, you can still say it's a bad trade. In that particular case there just happened to be a very good reason for it.
