I came up with this threath while reading some others and I thought we could get a few nice discussions.

Question1:Who was the biggest steal in the draft from this millenium.

Bargnani & Bogut are not busts and Milicic is actually doing alright this past week so I wouldn't consider them busts.

How can the #2 candidate for Rookie of the Year be nominated for biggest bust of the millennium?

Steals:

1. Gilbert Arenas - One of the best players in the league right now.
2. Michael Redd - Wow... Just wow.
3. Carlos Boozer - Recently became an all-star, big steal
4. Josh Howard - An all-star caliber player who improves every year
5. *write-in* Tayshaun Prince (Late first-round, 2002) - Almost an all-star, very good all-around player

Busts:

1. Kwame Brown - He isn't that bad as of late, but the top pick?
2. Darko Milicic - He isn't a bad player, but #2 in the strongest draft class since 1996?
3. Jay Williams - Was never that bad, but sadly due to the motorcycle wreck, he never was able to become anything
4. Marcus Fizer - He just isn't good.
5. *write-in* Tyrus Thomas - Too early to tell but the 4th pick in the NBA Draft (2nd pick in a way) is looking a lot like Kwame Brown

Those are just my opinions... Tyrus Thomas could definitely become something, but at this point, he just isn't getting the minutes.

Bargnani is not a bust, nor is Bogut. Everyone knew Bogut wasn't going to be an all-star, but he was the best center in the draft, and that's why he was picked.

Nene deserves to be considered a bust though. Fat, lazy and injured. I'd also put Mike Sweetney on that list. Shaun Livingston has also been a big bust too, he can't ever seem to be consistent.

basically all the 2000 draft class sucked. These are all top picks who turned out to be busts.

I'd say Jay Williams was the biggest bust for the plain fact he isnt even playing (Even if it was cuz of the bike accident). At least Kwame has seen time on the court and is contributing somewhat.

Biggest steal has got to be Gilbert for sure.

YoG!, get your facts strait, Redd was 42nd pick not 43rd.

Does one pick difference really matter? Everything else is accurate and the point is that he was picked in the middle of the second round. Besides, check that Wikipedia link, he is listed as 43rd.

I wouldn't say Nene is a bust. He definitely doesn't deserve his all-star contract, but what was he picked? Was he even a lottery pick? He is fat, lazy and injured but he still is a decent PF. Same goes for Mike Sweetney, who is a decent PF, and wasn't drafted THAT high. Shaun Livingston though...

Also, Kenyon Martin wasn't exactly a bust in my opinion. He was probably the second best player in the draft. And while he seems to always be injured (Has he even played 82 games since signing with Denver?) at least he was an all-star once.

5) Pick #28 of 2001 draft Tony Parker - Great playmaker/scorer.

Weiland, you can't already label rookies who have played half an NBA season in their whole career, busts. For all we know they could both be 20 and 10 players one day (well, shelden definetly won't, but still). Here's mine...

Top 5 Steals:

1. Gilbert Arenas at #31 (Surely Gilbert Arenas is the biggest steal. He is a superstar today and a top 3 guard in the league this season.)
2. Michael Redd at #42 (I bet even the bucks didn't realise he'd be averaging 25+ points per game one day)
3. Manu Ginobili at #58 (3rd last pick of the 2nd round!)
4. Carlos Boozer at #35
5. Josh Howard at #29

Top 5 busts:

1. Nikolaz Tskitishvili at #5 (unlike fizer and kandi and co., tskita actually had literally no impact whatsoever to any nba team.)
2. Michael Olowokandi at #1 (The fact that he was #1 puts him above Araujo)
3. Rafael Araujo at #8 (I know it's a bit early to call him a bust. But he is utterly useless)
4. Marcus Fizer at #4 (wasn't he supposed to be the next barkley? hahaha.)
5. Darko Milicic at #2 (He's a good player, but he gets put at 5 for the sheer fact of where he was drafted, which was absurdly undeserved, and also the fact of who was to come after him (Anthony, Wade, Bosh))

Manu was not drafted in this millennium. I don't know where you guys got that one from, but he was most definitely drafted in 1999.

Michael Redd is by far the biggest steal, because he has improved so much from the draft to become just magnificant

when it comes to picking a player as a "steal" you have to consider if he is still on the team that drafted him. if they were drafted and didnt start to shine til after a trade or soemthing then its not a steal at all.

maybe good but not good enough for a 2nd pick...they're lucky they were able to get brandon roy

1. Arenas. Redd is a steal but Arenas is one of the best at his position, that's insane for a 2nd rounder.

2. Skita.
Brown, Bogut, etc.. are all starter caliber NBA Players. They're not All-Stars but even a "normal" starting big man is rare to find. Fizer & Skita however, can't even play on a team.

What makes Skita a bigger bust over Fizer is that there wasn't that much to pick after Fizer. The best the Bulls would have gotten is maybe Mike Miller, which is unfortunate but not exactly passing over Jordan.

Skita, however, at #5, means Denver passed over:
- Amare Stoudemire
- Caron Butler
- Tayshaun Prince
- Chris Wilcox
- Nenad Krstic
- Fred Jones, Juan Dixon, Salmons, Dickau and a variety of other good guards

As an Ohio State fan, when the first round ended without Michael Redd getting picked, I was so stunned, I read over the list of first round picks 6 or 7 times to make sure I didn't see his name.

Once he got picked I was so upset it was by a Central Division team.

lamarcus will develope into one of the better big men in the league in a few years time. he started slow, because he wasnt getting any minutes. now that he is getting minutes, he is averaging some good stats and he is only 0.05 bpg from leading all rookies.
