Official NBA 2k7 Thread

I've been playing with the Knicks on 2K7, I blew the whole roster up, kept most of the young ones and got most of the awful contracts. (Isn't that like everyone?)

I'd created a 80 rated Center at 7'2 (a la Shaq, just slimmer) and put him on the roster. Then I proceeded to trade everyone away for expiring contracts. Then I proceeded to tank the season. Managed to get the 3 pick in the lotto. Drafted a 6'7 SG who's tendancy is outside shooting. Darrel Holmes (love the fact they can pronounce his name).

So this is how it looks...

C - 7'1 - 84
PF - Channing Fry - 79
SF - Mike Dunleavy - 78
SG - Darrel Holmes - 81
PG - Nate Robinson - 76

Holmes, Dunleavy & Robinson are all sharp three point shooters. I've got the Center who likes to bang bang inside and Channing Frye who can either take it inside or give me some nice 20 foot jump shooting. It's pretty much the Lakers a few years back with Horry, Fisher and Fox.

The bench is pretty alright too...I play them a lot as a second unit.

C - Kendrick Perkins
PF - David Lee
SF - Jared Jeffries
SG - Kareem Rush
PG - Something Denier

Perkins basically just gets passes from Rush from Pick&Rolls and stuffs it. Lee gets most his points from offensive boards. Jeffries is soon going to move in to my starting line up, I've placed Dunleavy on the trading block. He's tall and he can shoot the three with amazing consistancy..almost at 49%. Rush is my sixth man, he can shoot, he can dunk, he can defend taller PG's (Robinson tends to be a prob against Kidd) and he can double as a PG if I go with a taller line up.

Reserves are Malik Rose (no one wants him)...Jerome James, no one wants him either...and Ronaldo Balkman, most of them don't get to play much, Balkman does in spurts.

Currently I'm 25 and 7, that's the most games I've ever played on a NBA sim, I never got past 12 with NBA Live.
I'm planning to ship Lee & Dunleavy. I feel he's too expensive for 3 years (highest paid player at 8. something million) and Jeffries has just been amazing so far. He's also a much better defender due to his length, he blocks and rebounds a lot more than Dunleavy.
So I've got a trade lined up as follows...give me your thoughts.

I was thinking of trading Dunleavy to Memphis for Swift. Contracts match and they accept it. Then I can move Jeffries to the starting lineup. Thing is, then I have three (or more) PF's and no secondary SF. I was thinking of then shipping Lee. If I keep Swift, it could work out nicely. He's an explosive dunker and it'd work nice with Rush running pick & rolls. Either he can shoot it, or let Swift dunk it.

So I was thinking I move Lee for Walton. He's a good passer, a decent rebounder, and he can shoot the three. Basically I wouldn't have to worry about my second unit being able to score, with Jeffries moving away, Swift would provide offense and Rush also.

So basically...would you make these moves based on the information provided?

Dunleavy (outside shooting...that's it.) for Swift (second unit scoring).
David Lee (rebounding) for Walton.

Give me some thoughts ladies.

PG - Something Denier

Travis? He's probably a good backup PG in 2k7.

That's him, he's average. Isn't very fast, a pretty good passer, alright shooter. I usually just use him as a passer though, so he gets the job that he needs to do, done.

Hmm Lee is an awesome rebounder in this game he got like 15 on me one time so if your willing to give up rebounds for scoring then its seems like an ok deal, Luke Walton is quite good in the game so he wouldnt be a bad pickup.

Im not sure on Stromile Swift he could be pretty good id imagine, most dunkers in this game are pretty dominant. Hows Nate Robinson in the game? his size looks like a problem just like Boykins when i used to use him, maybe you could package Lee, Dunleavy and Robinson and try to get a PF and a superstar PG just a thought.

Although i wouldnt trade David Lee for Stro Swift, in this case i would, because your eventually picking Walton up. Walton can be used as a playmaker, so if your second unit is struggling, you could look to pick up a shoot first point guard, and use Walton to facilitate..

Now despite saying i wouldn't trade for Stro, as CMJ said - Dunkers are pretty damn dominant in this game. If theres one thing that makes a big dunker like Swift killer in 2k7, its the pick and roll - which sounds like your go-to-move, so it looks to me like the trade will benefit your team..

Im loving the way you built your team (Shaq/Kobe Lakers), sounds like an entertaining association.. I've also broken my record for most games played in a Dynasty/Association, with 3 saved games (around 10 total in this one, but the disc cannot be read message keeps fucking me over and i simmed the entire first season).. Im using the Nets in a fantasy draft, first pick Garnett, second pick Odom.. As i had the first pick, i was able to get a pretty gun roster - including my 86 overall created point guard in the 3rd round..
Im still playing on pro, with a 2-1 record (both wins were by 8-10, loss was by 1) but im thinking of stepping up to All Star soon.. Anyways, heres my team after trades and draft and such..

C - Chris Kaman [May look to put him on the block soon]
PF - Kevin Garnett [21.6 PPG, 10 RPG, 3 APG]
SF - Lamar Odom [23.8 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 5 APG]
SG - Jason Terry [16.2 PPG, 2.3 RPG, 1 APG]
PG - Vincent Chase (Created - Yes, i used the main character from Entourage as the basis for his name and looks haha) [21.6 PPG, 0.9 RPG, 21 APG]

Odom is killing it for me at the moment, as all three SFs i've played are all smaller, weaker or slower, so he can basically do what he wants.. Chase runs the offense playing a Nash like role, and just picks up points on the fast break, or open shots.. He gets a fair percent of his points when Garnett or Odom are off though..
Pick and Roll with Garnett and Chase (or even Odom when hes at PF) is my main play, so he really does play a nashesque game. When my second unit is on, i often leave Chase, Garnett or Odom in the line up, and when Chase is resting, Odom is my playmaker.. The key guys on my bench are:

C/PF - Andrew Bogut (8/8/3)
SG/SF - JR Smith (14/2/2)
PG - Mo Williams (3/1/4 - Im really struggling with his shot, which is why he isnt my 6th man at the mo')
SF - Kyle Korver
C - DeSagana Diop
PF - Reggie Evans

Well thats my team at the moment, but its unrealistic rating is 50/10 so ill probably start a non fantasy draft one with a team like Chicago soon, and just put my boy Vinnie Chase on the roster like Jackal did with his Shaq guy.. Infact, after reading Jackals recap, the Knicks dont look like such a bad team, especially with Chase on the roster and tanking the season for the draft.. If i do that, ill sim the first season with Chase and Crawford on the I.R to let guys like Lee, Frye and Nate develop, while i trade off guys like Steph, Steve, Q, Curry etc.. Infact, damn you Jackal, you've made me wanna use the Knicks

Edit: Forgot to say i've got guys like Oden, Durant, DeMarcus Nelson, Brendan Wright, Ty Lawson, Mike Conley and such created, except i just used the attribute templates, so their all extremely overrated.

Rebounding isn't a problem for me, I've got the center picking up 20+ points a night with 15+ rebounds. Frye chips in with around 8 a game aswell. Whatever the guards get is a bonus.

Robinson...at the start I had him on the block, no one seems to want him. So I decided let me play him, let me make the best I can out of the situation. Thing is, my C gets doubled a lot, so I've got an inside outside thing going, once the opposing PG is commited to my C, I usually pass it to Dunleavy who, if he isn't being guarded, takes the three (12 ppg) or passes it to either Holmes or Robinson. If Robinson is open, he gets to shoot it. If he isn't, no shot, he gets blocked if his man is too close. Marcus Williams swatted like 4 of his shots against NJ.

So basically he gets to score while on the break...or on open lane pick & roll's. If he gets fouled, most cases he can't finish. He's got like 8 points a game with 6-7 assists a game. Holmes carries the scoring load, he can score inside and he can just spot up (way) out for the three. I love this kid.

Thanks Dean, thing with me is that I ususally use the SF's as shooters. So I need to know if I can be able to dish out with Rush and if Walton can knock down the shot I need him to knock down. If not, I need suggestions for a SF who can shoot...and is around 1.1 to 1.5 million a year.

Your team does sound overly strong, but it's up to how everyone plays. I don't like playing with Garnett, he's more finesse, not my style. How about with Terry? Doesn't he get abused by taller/stronger SG's?

Now you mention Korver, I'm going to check his salarly tomorrow.

The Knicks were fun to use, I'd done it once before, had to tank the first season ofcourse...but surprisingly I got fired. So basically this is my second one with NY. The owner is getting a wee bit happier, I've got cash to spend and thanks to Holmes, revenue's are up. My coach is also rated excellent so that's also a bonus.

I'll keep you guys updated on the trades. Mike for Swift is a lock, I just need to find a 3 point shooting tall SF who can run at a decent pace and earns 1.1-1.5 million to exchange for Lee.

Yeah, i made the team strong so i could have some fun while getting used to the iso moves, plays, and how guys shoot and stuff, so it was good in that sense..

With Terry, i havent really played anyone of note, so i cant say if he gets dominated yet, but ill be running a zone when i think one of the guards is a threat, because Chase is only 6'2 aswell.. If im marking a guy like Kobe, hes definatley gonna torch Terry if i try to play normal D on him, so i switch it up a bit.. If hes got the ball, i get right up in his face (id rather force him to drive and attempt to get a shot past Odom/Garnett/Kaman then give him room to shoot over the Jet). When he hasnt got the ball, ill play some off ball defense, and just face up on Kobe, looking to play the passing lanes anytime the other team looks to even think about giving it to him, i used to play that way when i had Barbosa starting when i was Phoenix.. Playing that way i've kept both Kobe and TMac to 15 or less multiple times.. Its not his defence thats worrying me at the moment though, its his shooting.. Yes hes averaging 16 a game, but im only shooting 34% with him.. If i cant change that, ill shop him around if i end up sticking with this one.. That being said, ill probably do a more realistic one with a team like Chicago, New York, or maybe even Portland - with Chase of course

If your looking at guys who can shoot/score at SF, Walton is a pretty decent shooter on this game. If your thinking away from him, have a look at some big shooting guards - guys like Kirk Snyder (big body, decent speed, 83 or so three point rating.. hes big enough to guard most SG/SFs and hes quick enough to drive, yet has a good enough shot to drain it from the perimeter.. Eddie Jones is pretty good in that kind of role too, except hes only 6'6".. In a fantasy draft, Snyder and Jones both drop to the $400k minimum or whatever it is, so theyre easy to obtain. Using default rosters, im not sure what they would cost, but Snyder should be reasonably cheap still, maybe even in your price range.. My point is, there are some pretty good, cheap SG's who are big enough to play the SF, so if your struggling to find someone, have a look in Snyders direction..

Wow Dean your team looks really dominant, 3 players averaging over 20 ppg your bench must be depleted as hell. I started a Wizards association about a week ago and the team is great, it doesnt really need to be modified except possibly a better Center and a better scorer off the bench but Arenas is dominating hes averaging like 30 ppg and 9 assists along with 6 boards but the trio of Arenas, Butler and Jamison is really good, they cover all aspects of the game speed, dunking, rebounding, scoring, defending. I'm really loving this team atm they never get boring.

Not sure how much Korver earns but he looks like your man, that guy is deadly from beyond the arc and hes not too small at 6-8. Another productive player is Demarr Johnson, hes 6-9 and a great dunker plus a good 3 point shooter and he doesnt earn much money at all.

You guys should check out operationsports.com. There's an NBA 2K thread with the best starting lineups and plays for each team. Definitely worth checking out, but you have to register first. Lots of cool slider threads too.

Well I checked Korver out, turns out he's with NO now and earns an estimated 4.4 million. Way out of Lee's 1.3 million, so that won't be happening.

Travis Outlaw has caught my eye though, he's like 6'9 orso and he's rated 71 for three's.

On another note, I'm going to try Dunleavy on the bench and see how Jeffries does starting before I pull the trigger. Thanks fellows.

Not a bad idea, Dunleavy could make a good 6th man, and you get your boy Jefferies in the starting line up like you wanted..

@ CMJ, my bench gets a fair bit of playing time, and basically everyone is performing.. Bogut has played great in all 3 games, as has JR.. When i get Mo's shot down pat, he'll put up about 10ppg too..

Edit: CMJ, how the hell do you get 6 boards with Arenas? I struggle to get 4 with Odom and Josh Howard when i had him.. When i had Howard, i wanted about 8 a game with him to keep stats pretty realistic.. Any pointers?

Turn the Rebounding sliders up to 100 it makes them realistic.

I just got Xbox Live Gold yesterday. My gamer tag is Lamrock93. I usually play in the Beginner and Street lobbies (I;m still bad at the game). I edited my Rebounding sliders, but I would say it is more realistic around 70-75.

i just went on a massive scoring spree with the nuggets. 12 minute quarters versus the cavs on superstar mode. strategy was pretty simple -- absolutely lay off eric snow and double team lebron every time he touched the ball. plan worked to perfection. snow shot a horrendous 3-16, and lebron was limited to 19 points on 6-24 shooting. as far as my nugs go:

carmelo anthony - 38 points, 10 boards (4 offensive), 7 assists (6/7 ft)
allen iverson - 35 points, 7 assists, 5 steals (2/2 3 pt. fg)
jr smith - 30 points, 4 boards, 3 assists (8/10 ft, 4/4 3 pt fg)

camby had a great game too with 15 points, 15 boards, and 3 blocks.

Yeah the double team is very effective. I used it against Bosh playing with the Bucks and it worked very well. Forced Ford, Bargnani and Rasho to take a lot of difficulty shots. Only way to get the Bucks measly defense to work!

hey guys i just noticed theres a new roster update over at xbox live. It doesn't update much. Pretty much just eh Iverson trade. No 8 player deal, no boykins and blake and no webber in Detroit. And the onli roster seems to be totally mesed up. It appers that every team gave up about 3-4plyer to other teams.. so its a complete scramble...
The Jazz got pretty good.. check it out....

What a disappointing Roster update. Something that takes me 20 minutes to do takes 2K nearly 2 months to do and isn't even up to date. The only difference I notice is the Iverson trade and that Al Jefferson is now an overall 83. Pathetic.

I edited the rosters myself, it took about 3 hours, but I edited every player's ratings. Not 100% accurate, but it works.

Is that thr real 2k7 commentary? Cause that's much different to my Xbox 2k7 commentary, much better imo (more realistic)

It's more realistic because it's taken from the actual Rockets-Spurs game

Now I'm thinking of the thread where somebody thought the Live commercial with the two obnoxious guys insulting each other while watching their own replays was the actual commentary from the game.

its not the ingame audio!! he actually used the real game commentary from that actual game! thats the cool part about the videos! its pretty hard to make it in sync imho!

the roster "updates" are pretty gay. I wish they would add more players to the Wizards because it sucks playing with only 3 guards on your whole roster. I usually wind up taking Stevenson out first replacing him with Daniels but then when Arenas gets tired, i'm screwed

Yeah, the updates suck. While I make my own, I can't use them online. Daniels was pretty good at SG when was on the Sonics. (Their one good season in the past 5 years) If you must use Washington, stick Jarvis Hayes at SG and you'll do just fine.
