NLL - Longest running league currently still on the net

Tue Jan 09, 2007 12:14 am

... http://nbaliveleague.com/

There are positions vacant. Atlanta, Chicago, Clippers, Bucks, Portland, Kings.

I strongly suggest you check it out. I'm denver. This has been my #1 hobby since 2003! It's really great, and the site stuff is amazing. Create your own player profiles, team news articles, rumour mill contributions, try and create the best cpu-vs-cpu team in the league and win the title! Spurs have already created their legacy. Garnett has created his by being the best players in the league almost every season (though this season he was traded to Miami :o).

The league's timetable follows the NBA's... so we have the same season/offseasons etc. It also has real life injuries which are updated weekly. Everything is just ran really really smoothly, and the site keeps on improving.

In all honesty the site should charge, i get a hell of a lot out of it. But it's free! So sign up.

Also, another cool thing to know that i forgot to mention, player ratings are based off their current NBA form. They've got this formula that goes off their nba stats that creates really really accurate ratings. The formula would make a patchmaker jealous as it is so accurate. Ratings are updated every 5 weeks or something.

I would sign up if the rosters were up to date, but I'm seeing some pretty crazy stuff, like most stars aren't on their original team.

Fri Jan 12, 2007 4:46 pm

Lol up to date

It's a fantasy league dude, NOBODY is on their original teams. The only time there was "up to date" rosters was when the league started in 2002. Spurs are the only team that have kept their original team in tact. They've had the same GM for the 5 years.

That definitely looks like fun, but I have no idea when it comes to NBA Live leagues. I'm assuming you play online, but my internet at the moment ruins any chances of me doing that :x

And Nick, looking at the ratings of players on that site I don't really find them that accurate based on this season. For example, Joe Johnson is rated 84 while Andrei Kirilenko is a 91, despite JJ having his best season and Andrei pretty much having his worst.

There hasn't been a rating update yet for this season. We're at week 5. They currently are going off last season (more games = more accurate). I think there's a rating update every 5 weeks, so there's probably one in the next few days. Then it will go 25% off this season and 75% of last season i think. Then after week 10 it's 50/50, etc. By the third update after week 15 it just goes solely off the current season i THINK. I could be wrong about that last part though.

Also, it's not online. It's offline. You go and play against the computer and submit the results. It's like playing an NBA Live dynasty but with 29 other GM's. (You also sim a cpu vs cpu game not involving your team and submit the results. That's how our sim games are done.)

You should join flite. (Y)

Sounds good. I still have no idea how it works though, I mean, how can you win if some guy is playing "your" team but your not controlling them?

Also, what game do you need? 07?

Sun Jan 14, 2007 10:57 pm

Nobody else plays with your team but you. Hmm i always struggle to explain this but see if you understand my crap explanation:

You will find your team involved in match results of 3 kinds:
- Human
- Cpu (also classed as human in this league for whatever reason)
- Sim

Every week you will will see your team involved in AT LEAST ONE of each. (There is no set amount however. But it's generally 1 human, 1 cpu and 2 sims)

Human games are you vs the cpu (you are always the home team in human games)
Cpu games are someone else playing with their team against your team (that would be a human game to them, but not you.)
Sim games are cpu vs cpu. (These are the games that count, because 9.9 times out of 10 human games are won, so whoever wins the sim game battles usually determine the better teams.)

Anyway, i'm not sure if that was clear, but it all works out nicely in the end. Basically what you are to do in this league is:
1. Play your human game every week (you will always have 1 human game every week. No more, no less (unless you've been eliminated from the playoffs)
2. Sim 1, 2 or even 3 games (depending on how many you request for that week. Usually 1 is sufficient. But if you've got free time you can do more. Or if you will have no time that week then request 0)
3. Be fairly active. This means posting a team news article every once in a while. Checking in at the site daily (or every 2 days or whatever) to check for site news updates, or forum posts, or lineup changes, or inbox messages, or new injuries to your team, etc etc. It sounds like a lot but all it is is 5 or 10 minutes to check up on some stuff. If you've got time to kill then update your player bios or make a long team news article or go suss out theories on what kind of team it takes to win sim games or go figure out a trade that might suit you. Whatever.

There is also a "GM point" system that rewards good deeds. This basically means you are rewarded once in a while for continuing to sim games and do team news things etc etc. GM points come in handy for persuading FA's etc. I wont get into that now, it's in the rules anyway probably.

And yes, you need NBA Live 07 to play. You also need ICQ. That's what we use to contact other members if u wanna talk trades or whatever.

God damn you'd think i was an admin there or something lol.

Sun Jan 14, 2007 11:19 pm

I think I understand. Too bad you wrote all that out for me to say I won't play, because I wouldn't touch 07

Mon Jan 15, 2007 1:32 am

Mother fucker.

Awell, spose others will read it and understand better. So not a complete waste of time.

But gawd, what game did you think we'd use? There was really no point in declaring interest now was there.

Mon Jan 15, 2007 10:23 am

To be honest I just wanted to know more about the roster

Mon Jan 15, 2007 1:15 pm

Haha, k. Well there was a roster update overnight if you're interested in having a look.

Also, remember that the initial roster we use is NLSC roster (Andrew released his just in time! what we do is use nlsc roster as a base, then do nll ratings over that), so things like speed and quickness and awareness and inside scoring and other ratings that you can't update with stats from boxscores are not from the NLL formula, they're from NLSC's roster. We do things like FG, dunk, stl, blk, reb, etc.

Mon Jan 15, 2007 1:50 pm

knicks under the salary cap lol

sounds interesting but live 2007...

I'll definitely check it out. I'm making my own roster for 2005 so seeing how these ratings compare to real life stats should help me with my understand of how the ratings work.

EDIT: Nick, could you send me the roster? I couldn't find where to get it and the player profile ratings have not been updated. Thanks :)

Mon Jan 15, 2007 2:43 pm

Well, i guess the rating update is not finished then. My players (denver) have updated ratings, but i didn't look at the others, he must be still working on other teams? Should be done by tonight i suppose.

Yeah, you wont be able to get the download for the roster unless you're logged in (which, unless you're a member, you obviously can't do)

knicks under the salary cap lol

I guess dunudan is a better GM than isiah thomas haha.

Thu Jan 18, 2007 1:04 am

Sorry to ask again, but Nick could you send me the new roster? They still haven't updated the player profiles. Would really appreciate it (Y)

Thu Jan 18, 2007 11:05 am

We don't update overalls anymore, just all the other ratings.
