The gift-GIVING thread

Fri Dec 08, 2006 6:49 pm

well, since we got one for what you'd want, I figured we could help the few in this forum that give gifts.
Ok well, in order for us to help you, give as much info as you can give about the person you are giving it to.

-I need ideas for one of my (female) friends that happens to be the roommate of a girl I like. She's asian and is religious (Christian), so she's really innocent and sheltered so I gave her a DVD of "The Emperor's New Groove" last year, since she likes Disney movies and that's one of her favorites. I don't really know much else about her except that she's religious so I'm fresh out of ideas. A photo album of some sorts?

a porno.....it'll open her up to our secular world :P You could always get her a book of some sorts.

Clothes? I dunno, I have a few very religious friends... But it doesn't mean they hate non-religion related stuff. Maybe something trendy that'll surprise her?

Buy her like a goldplated bible or something.

Sat Dec 09, 2006 1:36 am

If she's bordering on fundamentalism, get her a DVD called Christianity: The First Two-Thousand Years. It's a good documentary on Christianity from its very origins and how it progressed over the centuries. It might open her mind a little bit since I was a sheltered Christian when I was younger.

Go old-skool, give her a WWJD bracelet.

Sat Dec 09, 2006 1:52 am

Buy her a t-shirt with a picture of Ozzy Osbourne holding a crucifix on it.

I managed to get a PS3 at work today :o

I'm thinking of selling it to one of my friends... I need to ask around to see if any of them would want it.

Sat Dec 09, 2006 6:18 pm

And you're not keeping it, why? :o

Sat Dec 09, 2006 6:42 pm

well, 2 reasons. First, it's only a 20GB version and I had my heart set on a 60GB. Built in WiFi + SD/MS inputs + 3X the HD space is worth the extra $100. Second, the first generation of PS3s are almost as bad as the first 360s as far as overheating goes. Our display PS3 in our store over heats at least 10 times a day.

So I might wait for a 60GB one at regualr price next year.

Any of you guy sknow some good vaccum cleaners for around $120-$160? I'm looking for an upright one and one I can purchase at a store like Sears, Target or Wal-Mart. I've checked online and read reviews but most of them seem similar. Any ideas?

Fri Dec 15, 2006 7:15 pm

well as far as vacuums go, I think Hoover & Oreck are the best brands. They all seem to be very similar like you said, so all I can say it get a bagless one (Y)

I was looking at this Silver Quartz Hoover and it sounds good but then I asked the person at Sears and they said you need to replace the filter about once every 3-4 months (filter cost $30). I told her forget that model and I started looking at some other models. I saw this brand new Bissell that they just got in for about $129.99. It is bagless just like the Hoover but the filter isn't directly in the compartment so it doesn't get as filthy. Plus, I heard those filters are cheaper than the Hoover ones.

I'm kind of stuck on what one to get. I'm thinking the Bissell one but my mind is telling me I get what I pay for and there has to be a reason why this one is $40 cheaper or so.
