Trading of draft picks confirmed

Postby Andrew on Fri Aug 15, 2003 2:06 pm

If you've seen the latest NLSC news update, you've no doubt seen the links to the article that JoeMimic posted a little while ago. You would also have noticed another interesting point. Although the previews do not mention it, I've been able to confirm that trading of draft picks will be in NBA Live 2004. (Y)

How do you know if it isn't in the previews?

It's information that was given to me by one of the producers of NBA Live 2004, that I have been given permission to post.

hm...i wonder.. :)

I hope that the trading system is correctly implemented when we deal picks. It would be fun to wheel and deal and try to move up in the lottery if it was implemented in a way that we would all agree upon.

Cheers! :)

Hey Andrew, could you tell us this much... Do you know a lot more then what EA is giving out or just a few details like the draft pick trading?

Cause I want to know if you know a lot more and keep it as a real promiser, well then I'll just have to agree with you, but if you don't know that much, well then it all goes back to guessing I guess :)

NBA_Fan_23

Please don't swear... Andrew will be the second in line to comment on that one.

My point was that does he know much or does he know only some small tidbits from here or there. He just has to say "I know a lot more" or "Nothing major" to this question.

I'm just wandering that because I want to know on just how much information is Andrew positism based on.

I like that as a statement, you should make use it as a signature!
So have you got any more info from EA that they could permit you to post?

I ain't offended, but it just reads in the forum rules section that you should try to avoid all harsh wording. And I agree... It is just not needed.

I've been through alot to get where I am now...

(In a happy place cause have high hopes for Live 2004  )

this is really great news but i hope they implemented it right, in other words fixed the whole trading system cuz if u are gonna have to give up a superstar for a top three pick thats just plain wrong, and lots of those trades happen where still a lot of cash is involved too, if u can get darko or melo for otis thorpe u shouldnt have to trade lets say ray allen or ai or so for a number one pick, that's the only thing i am afraid of, of course also not the other way around, they shouldnt be free either

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy they added this but ...

You know the 3 team trades in Live 2000 ?
You couldn't even place a player from team B to team C if you didn't control any of those two (so you basically had to have two teams and add a third one to trade with :/)

Now I'm afraid this trading draft picks thing could be just trading draft picks:

Round 1 pick #8 + #12
for
Round 1 pick #1

Andrew, could you please confirm if you CAN make a package of players and picks ?

In that case...how would Team A even have two lottery picks to begin with?

You do have a point though...EA could very easily have screwed this up...

I think EA should have the trading of the picks like Madden does it but I hope they make it a little easier.

They could've traded to get that second lottery pick so they could package it up to move up in the draft?

I think trading picks is a really good idea. The draft is a fun feature and if you have a good season you somewhat get penalised with a bad pick. So this way I can trade to get a lottery pick and still have a good season.
This is great! 2004 dynasty will be great fun!

Heheh I wonder if you get to conduct cheerleader auditions? :D

Not a whole lot, unfortunately. I don't know any specifics, but I do know a few things that tell us something but then again don't tell us anything. I'll get to that later.

Hey Andrew, could you tell us this much... Do you know a lot more then what EA is giving out or just a few details like the draft pick trading?

Basically just a few details, and I'm only told things that I'm allowed to post.

Cause I want to know if you know a lot more and keep it as a real promiser, well then I'll just have to agree with you, but if you don't know that much, well then it all goes back to guessing I guess

Most of the things I post in regards to NBA Live 2004 are just speculation and hopes. But when I post information that a member of the production team has given to me to post, it's not speculation, it's fact.

If I'm talking about a mode that I'd like to see in NBA Live, I'm just speaking as a fan of the series. If I post confirmed information about the game, I'm sharing information that I have been given with permission to post it in the forums and on the news page.

Andrew, could you please confirm if you CAN make a package of players and picks ?

I'll certainly try. :)

This news made my day, thanks Andrew.

No problem. (Y)

As I said, I don't really know anymore than anyone else. I know that in Dynasty Mode, we won't be worrying about ticket prices and merchandising, and that the traditional tasks of multi-season mode (roster management and guiding a team to success) will still be the main focus. Which is reassuring, as it means that basketball is still the most important aspect of multi-season play.

But as for details on Dynasty Mode itself...I don't know anything more than what has been provided by the latest IGN previews. If I'm told anything, it's something that I'm allowed to post.

Dynasty Mode is no doubt going to have a whole lot of roster management tasks, there just won't be any non-basketball management tasks, such as managing ticket prices, overseeing merchandise sales, etc. I think most people (myself included) would rather see improvements to the basketball side of multi-season play before the addition of a business/management side of things.
