Here's for all the nerds out there, share your SAT and ACT scores here. I just took the SAT for the second time this saturday so hopefully I can improve on my scores.
SAT:
Critical Reading - 600
Mathematics - 620
Writing - 590
New Scale Score - 1810
Old Scale Score 1220
ACT - 28
I know they suck (my friends keep telling me they dont though), so dont laugh!
Tue Dec 05, 2006 7:49 am
they only had the new scale for only a few years right?
anyways I got a 1220 on the SAT 1 on my first try and a 1230 on my second
SAT 2 (required for UC schools)-
(out of 800)
Math II-720
English-530
US History-520
Tue Dec 05, 2006 8:19 am
I got a 33 on the ACT awhile back Just from memory the breakdown went something like this
math 34
science 34
reading 33
english 31

Man, when I took the SAT yeeeears ago. ...maybe 2004?
Anyways, I got like a 1420 or a 1440. One or the other, I had a buddy who got one of those scores and ever since then I confuse which one was mine.
Tue Dec 05, 2006 8:55 am
WTF, those high ass ACT scores
For you think a 28 sucks, then you must be real geeky. Scholarship territory is like a 23 so you do great IMO. I got a 25 from when I took it in October, but I'm taking it again this Saturday. I'm trying to get around that 28 range too, but if I can't then I can work with the 25 especially with the schools I'm going to. It's not like I'm going to Yale or something.

I don't think Canadian citizens need to take SAT or ACT exams.
Tue Dec 05, 2006 9:16 am
Nor do the Dutch/Antillians...(as far as I know.)
Tue Dec 05, 2006 9:33 am
Yea, the SATs arent really all that important. I took it only because I was coming to the US only to find out I coulda just took some exam at the college I went to and get in. A friend of mine did that and got into the same Honors program based on his scores.

Well, for the school I want to get into (Carolina) the median ACT score is 28... so I'm just in the middle, so not a lock for sure. I had a 25 the first time I took it, but went up quite a bit. The damn science section got me both times though. I completely guessed on it.
Tue Dec 05, 2006 11:31 am
I may have, half a decade ago, acquired a 31 on the ACT while under the influence of...um...learning 'enhancing' devices...
Or I may not have...
Also, I thought there were only three sections.
Despite that 31 and the subsequent years of the education system undermining my knowledge, I did however manage a 97% on the General Teacher Certification Exam in the State of Michigan. Thankfully that's over the 60% required to be certified. Thank Darko for high standards.
I didn't take the SAT because I wasn't going out of state.
US History-520
There's a US History component on the SAT Subject Test? May I request further details?
All high school juniors in Michigan will be taking the ACT automatically starting next year, 2007.
Tue Dec 05, 2006 11:57 am
1350 SAT, never had to take ACT. I'm unsure about the ACT but the oldschool SAT was just bullshit and measured how well you could take a test. My sister was valedictorian of my high school and only got a 1300
Tue Dec 05, 2006 12:04 pm
Took 'em once, in 2000, so it was the old scoring style. Got a 1280. I was fine with that -- it was high enough for all the colleges I was looking at.
Tue Dec 05, 2006 1:41 pm
1400 two or three years ago - I hate standardized testing regardless.

here ya go. I took the US History one because I had just finished a US History class in my junior year in high school.
I think i might be the only person here that took the SAT 2s .. I did that to get into the UC system... I didn't really try THAT hard though, because I already got a letter from UC Irvine saying they'd admit me if I applied.

Teachers of America pretty much nationwide are all pretty much against the current system of standardized testing, and the result of the No Child Left Behind legislation; though if done properly, and in a limited sense, it can certainly be useful.
Tue Dec 05, 2006 4:10 pm
I took SAT II's, 760 in French, 800 on Writing
Good times.
Tue Dec 05, 2006 4:56 pm
SAT's and ACT's are completely unnecessary for me. I'm just staying in Canada.

Yes, I read that. I was wondering what kind of things you got on and had to do on the actual test itself...

Well, that's more because of their own interests and not the interests of the education system or the students. Teachers, natch teachers unions, are opposed to any form of testing and evaluation like that because it provides a numerical value of their failure.
Remember that teachers unions are looking out for teachers, not students. There's nothing wrong with that, it's their purpose, but people often confuse them as "knowing what's best" when they really have no clue. Just like people who confuse me being an educator with someone who thinks the education system is good.
NCLB's big flaw is that it's the federal government assuming greater responsibility in areas it shouldn't be in. The teacher qualifications, school choice, student testing and "Adequate Yearly Progress" parts of the Act are all things the states should be doing anyway. Most of it's just reauthorization of existing federal programs.
"Teaching to the test" doesn't hold up in Math and Science because if you don't understand the concepts you can't pull it off on the test. That's where standarized tests have focused, because that's where the teachers are failing the most. So they come up with crap like "racist math" and so forth.

well, it's been over 4 years but I remember that it was pretty much your standard SAT multiple choice test, but the questions are on US History.
for example: Which of the following are NOT a requirement for becoming U.S. president?
A. Natural Born citizen
B. 35 years of age
C. Live in the US for more than 14 years
D. be white
e. be Christian
yeah I made that one up...

Fo real ? Nice.
I got 63.50, one of the best in the school lol...not too bad, considering the amount of work I put in (none)
Tue Dec 12, 2006 11:11 am
On the SAT, I got a 1220 on the old scale, and I was 12 when I took the test.
I win, you lose. Good day sir.
Tue Dec 12, 2006 11:16 am

63.5 was one of the best in the school?

Thats not too good for the school...
I had a bunch of mates around overnight so we could get hammered before we read our results (me and a mate did 10 jagers for breakfast cos we both got over 90

)
Whoever got the lowest score had to drink a bottle of passionpop

and the lowest was still 80, and we are definately no group of nerds
Most of our school will end up with over 80...
Its strange hearing about the different schools and how they go... what school are you at?
