My friend got it, said he regreted buying it. He called it a PS2 with a neat controller. He's the only person I know who has it. Personally it's not my thing, but I admit it would be fun to try out. BTW Red Steel got a horrible review at IGN, that was the onlygame i would have gotten at launch.

Well Wii sports so far has been extremely fun. I haven't played Twilight Princess yet since I've been having so much fun with Wii Sports with my friends. When I get more money I might get Red Steel, but not sure yet.

now i know what the Wii is.

I have a number of questions if I may...as I'm Wii-interested.
Did you get a classic controller? Do you have any GameCube games? Have you tried out the Virtual Console yet?
For the record, the Wii is a bit more powerful than the original Xbox from a technological standpoint. The specs are roughly equivalent.
I'm planning on a Wii + Zelda + Wavebird purchase (Classic Controller maybe? The situation of what plays what isn't exactly clear right now...) with Metroid when it releases next year. (Some classic games to tide me over until then...maybe whatever's <$10 used for the GameCube too.) Red Steel sounds like it sucks. Call of Duty 3 looks about as good as United Offensive did IMO, it's not like the X360 or PS3 versions, but it has the new aiming mechanic which sounds fun, if not as good as Metroid's.
I think the second wave of Wii titles will be a lot better than the one's this year. Wii seems like the DS where your second game will be a lot better than your first as you learn all the nuances of the system.

What was the last console launch to have two killer, must-buy/reason to buy, launch titles? You could only really argue for the Dreamcast (Soul Calibur and NFL 2K)
Look at the launches of the last four generations...
NES: Super Mario Bros.
Genesis: Altered Beast (I'm kidding!)
SNES: Super Mario World
Saturn: um...
PSX: yeah...
N64: Super Mario 64
Dreamcast: Soul Calibur
PS2: none...
GameCube: nil...
Xbox: Halo
Xbox 360: none...
PS3: none...
Wii: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (You can argue this...)
I'd consider a killer launch title something you can't get anywhere else that's a major step above what we've seen before. An absolute reason to purchase the system. The PS2 and Xbox 360 (even PSX) launched with a lot of solid titles, games that scored in the 85-90% but none in the 95% range...titles that endure through the ages.
By my account it took the PS2 around eight months to a year to start getting it's true killer aps (Twisted Metal: Black, Gran Turismo 3, ICO, Devil May Cry...then MGS2, THPS3, GTA3 and Final Fantasy X), a similar thing with the X360 getting Oblivion and Gears of War. The GameCube went through the same thing (Eternal Darkness, Super Mario Sunshine and then in another burst a couple months later Metroid Prime and Wind Waker)

Yea I have quite a few GC games. I didn't get the classic controller since the GC controller plays most games. I believe it plays NES, SNES, N64 and Sega Genesis. Dunno about the rest. I have seen the Virtual Console, but I haven't bought anything yet.

I sold today my PSP and all the games and accessories I had for it for 200€. I've been a Nintendo fan for ages and I'm really excited about buying the Wii, it looks so damn sexy. I will preorder it tomorrow, as it's released here the 9th of Dec here in Europe.
I don't think IGN or GameSpot or any other videogames reviewers can give the right score to Wii titles. It's another type of console, another type of fun. Maybe Red Steel isn't as deep as it could be, but I'm sure it's one of the most intense first action shooters ever created, because it's like if you was holding a sword or any weapon. It has to be amazing.
I'm happy Nintendo includes Wii Sports with the console, because it's one of those games that you think that sure will be fun but you wont spend 50 bucks on it. It's a great strategy to "convince" people to buy their console.
The Wii might be a fun console, for everybody, but until they release a good NBA game, I will still have to buy those great games for my now hated XBOX360 (It had one of those hardware problems and when I call microsoft they never answer, I'm sure I won't buy them ANYTHING more in my life. APPLE RULEZ)

I worked Midnight Madness at Toys R Us here in Minnesota for the Wii launch. Dear god, I've never seen so many nerds out in my life. They would actually chestbump each other after they got their systems. Or even better...they would call their friends on their cellphone and tell them "Yeah...I'm touching the Wii right now!!". It was pretty pathetic.
I will not get a Wii or a PS3 because I am perfectly content with my Xbox 360. I think it is the better system, anyways. The games on the 360 are kicking ass lately and will only continue to improve. I have my doubts on whether or not the Wii will be a success. It just seems like Nintendo is always one step behind Microsoft and Sony in terms of hardware and online capabilities. This would have been a great system to bring out last generation to run against the Xbox and PS2. From what I've heard this is just Gamecube 2 with a new controller.

Nintendo is not trying to win a competition, they think that it's not necessary to take a big step in graphics in every new generation of consoles. They're focusing on creating fun and innovative ways to play, and I think they're on the right way.
Thu Nov 23, 2006 1:47 am
Actually I think they amongst everyone in the business are trying new ways to make money out of suckers like you

No really, it's just a business, ideas come and go, it might happen that everyone starts feeling the Wii's controller gay anytime or anything else bizarre.

My TV supports component cables, but unfortunately I don't have $30-35 to buy it, and they (Nintendo) only sells them online or at Best Buy. With component cables, the graphics are supposed to improve by almost 2x. I have read on many sites that Zelda looks extremely improved on component cables compared to what it looks like with composite cables (red, white, yellow).
Are composite cables the red/green/blue? In that case, I think you can just use normal style cables (like the redyellowwhite) to connect them. You just need a few extra for sound. We did that with my DVD player I think.

Yes, it's pronounced "we". I liked the Nintendo Revolution name much better. <shrug>

Composite: Red/White/Yellow
Component: Red/Green/Blue And I think there are white and some other ones.

Jeez, I was at Gamespot.com and they had (WII) next to Call of Duty 3, and I thought it was WWII instead of Wii
I wanted to find the PC version

EDIT: lmao, red white and blue... red white and yellow is what I meant. Duh. I'm sick; shut up.
Composite: Red/White/Yellow
Component: Red/Green/Blue And I think there are white and some other ones.
Oh no, I know the colour coding - what I meant was, I'm pretty sure the actual physical cables are the same. Try using your red white and blue cables to connect the component jacks (you won't have sound) and if they fit (which I think they do) you can see if the graphics look better. I know the DVD player looked way better.

There's no such thing as a PC version of Call of Duty 3... sad, but true. Online CoD fans have been trying to get petitions under way to convice the developers to port CoD3 to the PC. Pretty outrageous choice imo, to not include CoD3 for the PC when the first two have been on the PC...

Quick question to Wii owners: do your arms get real tired after a couple hours playing the games?
I'm really looking into getting one. Maybe not just for myself but also the lady and their friends. Maybe theyll start getting into games and get off my case. Still gonna keep saving for that PS3 though.

I'm getting the feeling the Wii is going to be very female-friendly. Maybe they'll actually play a game or two. I tihnk they just like it becuase it's "cute" and the unique controller makes it seem like you're not playing a traditional video game, which they tend to dislike.

I'd get one if it didn't have such a silly name. What does it stand for?

Winning Iliven International.

If I remember correctly, I think it's just a funky way of saying "we," as in a connection, unity, and community of all gamers together in joyous harmony. Kinda like "iPod," but it's "Wii" ... a little Japanese if you ask me.
