New Busts

Mon Aug 11, 2003 12:03 am

I'm just wondering who do yall think will be a rookie bust this season?

Mon Aug 11, 2003 12:18 am

I think if any rookie is going to be classed as a bust, it will be one of the five you mentioned. I don't think any of them will look like a bust in their first year, though they might not reach some of the more unrealistic expectations - especially LeBron James, who has the highest expectations of all the rookies.

I would have to pick Milicic because the Pistons now have alot of guys at the C/PF slot. Guys like Cliff and Elden are not going to be benched, Okur showed some signs of being a decent bench player, Williamson is still an effective scorer, and we all know what Ben Wallace can do. And we all know that Larry Brown wanted Carmelo over Darko, so that might also be a factor.

its too early to tell...their NBA career hasn't even started...but i would like to take a guess..my guess is that....Miakel Pietrus,Darko Milicic...maybe just maybe...Lebron....

i would say Darko cause he isn't really gonna get lots of playing time but he will. But I think Kirk Hinrich might be one too, cause he is on the bulls and them already got good point guards(crawford, williams(won't play), pippen(might not be PG) but i don't know, i just thinking Kirk Hinrich.

Would we classify Rick Rickert as a bust??

I liked him when he was playing for Minny in College ball- sure his numbers weren't too goo (15ppg and 8rpg) but it was pretty cool that he comes from Minny and played their for his life. I think he was a projected top 20 pick in the 2002 Draft but didn't enter. Then this season he was picked in Second Round but it was cool cause he went to Minny! Dude- that's cool but then he got asked to play in Europe to improve his game...I guess ome of the info isn't relevent but the fact that he was asked to play overseas for a year...sorta makes him a bust...

Anyway, personally I think that if Milicic doesn't get GT he'll be a bust and Bron will be a bust if he doesn't play to the Media's expectations!! (i.e. makin the play-offs) If Melo gets 30-35mpg he'll do well but I think that the best rookie out of the draft is probably Chris Bosh...his game, IMO won't get affected by any media attention while the focus and pressure is on Bron's shoulders. Bosh is probably the best player because he'll improve throughout the year without attracting much spotlight and therefore do better and cop less Sh*t when he does crap...

If a player like Milicic doesn't get much PT, can he really be classified as a bust? I guess in a way he is, since it's a draft pick that could be used to select someone who wouldn't be stuck behind established veterans, but if a player doesn't get the opportunity to show what he can do, then he's not so much a bust as just not being utilised.

On the other hand, if a player gets plenty of time to prove himself after showing so much promise, and comes up short, he's probably heading towards a "bust" label.

I'd say Wade

I voted for other. Nobody specific though.

As for Hinrich, the bulls will run him at SG this year. Crawford/Pippen will be at PG but for sure Hinrich will get the start because Hinrich can run point and so can Pippen. Crawford can't run the point very well in my opinion.

Milicic would be a bust. I saw some highlights of him he's too raw and can't play the post very well if defended by a big body. But he has a lot of potential. I wonder if he can play SF? Why isn't anyone talking about Macej Lampe? :?

Cause he was a 30th pick, not even part of the first round. You don't expect 2nd rounders to be considered a bust. I know those were steals but you won't complain if they don't play at the level the 1st 5 picks do. If they come & play better, you're happy with the steal. But if they don't, you just have to forget it.

LEBRON JAMES

I agree and last year near the end of the season he showed damn well he can score, so I think Hinrich & Crawford will be interchangable PG/SG's

He can score yeah but he can't run point! Hinrich can run point but with the addition of Pip Pip either he'll be stuck at SG and operate as a swingman or he'd run point and sub in with him.

Maciej Lampe would have been a lottery pick if there weren't contract problem threatening his NBA starts.
It could be a "bust" if he won't play, as he was expected before the draft to be a good player

Again, no 2nd rounder has any pressure to be considered a bust. The fact that other teams passed him cause whatever problems he had, that doesn't make him a 1st rounder or a consideration to be a bust.

You consider a bust someone who didn't play at the level of the expectations, if Lampe doesn't play, won't be a bust.

Milos Vujanic, last year 2nd rounder pick for the Knicks, brought them the same hopes, he was just considered as good as Nash but the fact that he didn't play doesn't make him a bust. It was a pick wasted cause 2nd rounders don't even have a contract guaranteed until they sign it. 1st rounders do have guaranteed contracts.

Also, 1st rounders not making the team? almost impossible,
2nd rounders not making the team? very often.

no problem man  i just called him a "bust" because of the expectations before the draft, that's sure that if he succeed he will be for sure considered as a steal :)
