The new Bond look isn't very Bond to me... what do you guys think of a blonde Bond?

I don't really care what Bond looks like, it's his character/persona that matters to me.

The new Bond is going to be wonderful, mark my words. It's going to be less...cheesy. We're going to meet a darker shade of Bond, he isn't going to be the goodie two shoes.

By the way Cy, I'm not sure if you meant it the way I understood it, but I always thought James Bond was a codename, not one and the same person? Meaning, it's different agents who are promoted to "Bond level". It isn't one and the same person if I'm not mistaken.

I could be wrong though.

In any case, the new Bond guy is going to be good, get ready for a new type of Bond, a darker, more greyshaded Bond.

Just wondering, in what kind of time frame are the movies set?

EDIT: Don't worry, I read about it!

To answer Don, James Bond is one person. (Y)

I'm not certain I comprehend the question all too well, but I'd think present time...?

I meant that if the movies are set one after another or within years of each other, etc. But it's ok, I sorta have an idea from reading about it. Cheers buddy. (Y)

Interesting, I always thought of it as a name and one figure rather than somebody being able to attain the name and status of James Bond. I don't follow the Bond series too much, but maybe someone else can answer that.

To add to what I said, he's the same ficticious character. And his status is as a '00' agent.

Tue Oct 31, 2006 10:25 am

That's odd, I saw the first trailer of Bond before watching Don on Sunday and M told Craig..."I knew it was too early to promote you to 007 status."

Now I'm confused.

Tue Oct 31, 2006 10:31 am

Well, I know that there are other '00' agents... goldeneye, he has his mate is like 009 ir soemthing...

So the agent's status is 00... so the movie has it wrong.

Tue Oct 31, 2006 10:33 am

Yeah, but it still doesn't make a whole bunch of sense because...how can it be too soon to give Bond double O status when he's had it forever?

M's been smoking green again.

Tue Oct 31, 2006 10:37 am

Oh, because this movie is set before the recently made oens I believe. Casion Royale was first a telelvision adption of the novels... so we are basically seeing a yougner Bond in this new movie... that's what I've agthered so far.

Hope that helps!

Tue Oct 31, 2006 10:38 am

Ah, I totally forgot about that. You son, are a genius!

Casino Royale is one of the first Bond's ever, it's not a follow up to Brosnan's Bond's, it's going back to the beginning.

Man, I was breaking my head over that.

Edit:

Reboot:
Being a reboot of the franchise, the film shows James Bond starting out as an agent of the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6). The director Martin Campbell states:

"In the new film, Bond is essentially starting out in his career, and has just recently become part of the double-O section. The idea is to put a bit of the dash back in Bond. By the end of the movie, the character will have been forged into the wiser, harder Bond we know."

haha, cheers (Y)

Well, that brings me to the idea of why our new Bond has blonde hair when all the others had brown... no biggie I guess... as long as he's acting like a Bond... maybe I will warm up to the new chap. (Y)

Based on real life and the movies, "Don" was right in the first place. James Bond and 007 is a codename, but a fictional one. It's a different person.

I read a book by some British spy defector (forgot his name, made some news when he defected) that a person occupying a certain position in the agency has the exact name as the predecessor. The author mentioned he was recruited by someone during college and he declined, he was recruited again a few years after by that same someone with the same name and ranking/position but by a very different looking person. That sort of thing is usually reserved for integral members/divisions of the agency.

It also showed in all Bond movies when M "changed" from a man to a woman (sex change? :? ) , and Q making subtle references (in the Brosnan movies) to the usual traits of James Bond/s or those who become 007.

As for the books, I have no idea. Haven't read it.

you also have to consider the fact that Bond is at least 7-10 years older than Bourne. Bourne is supposed to be in his late 20's, in almost every bond movie, connery or brosnan or whoever, he looks mid to late 30's at the youngest.

Because 007 is an elite position, based on the Bond mythos anyway. It takes someone with vast experience to be promoted to that position. A 40 year-old field agent would probably have more experience than a 30 year-old one, would it? Besides, if "00" agents reached that age it means that the agent is good for the simple fact that he's not dead yet.
James Bond also has the rank of Commander in the Royal Navy (you could see in the movies him being called as such.)
That means Bond could deploy a

to wipe Bourne's sorry ass.
Nobody mentioned it should be a 1-on-1 fight.
The question is, who would win in a fight?

I would still go with Bourne in a 1-on-1 fight even with all the available gadgets and weapons. Even with amnesia, Bourne could still kill a bunch of guys. Hunting down a sniper with a shotgun? I've never seen Bond do that. :D

You're the fan so I can't argue with that. (Y) Thanks for letting us know!

Bourne...hands down.

Diddy Wants to Act As James Bond

Thought this was semi related.

So if there was to be a 'Black' James Bond, who would you want to act as him?

Sat Nov 11, 2006 8:33 pm

Denzel.
He's near the age bracket as Bond is.
Being a great actor also helps.

Sat Nov 11, 2006 9:30 pm

I did think Denzel but in say 8-10 years time or whenever it would happen... don't think it would happen. God please don't let them choose someone like Bow Wow.

Sat Nov 11, 2006 11:16 pm

No offense to any black folks, but I wouldn't watch a black Bond.
It goes against everything Ian Fleming described to be bond. Sure, Craig doesn't fit with his blonde hair either, but he does have the blue eyes.

Sun Nov 12, 2006 2:03 am

Bourne is definitely a little more realistic and seems a little more skillful, but I'd rather be Bond.

Sun Nov 12, 2006 11:04 am

Bourne could surprise attack bond, when bond is sleeping with one of his sluts (Y)

Sun Nov 12, 2006 3:04 pm

Bourne would straight fuck up that pretty boy. 8-)
