Chargers Shawne Merriman Tests Positive for Steroids

Merriman's positive test was "definitely for steroids … not one of those supplement deals," said a source with knowledge of Merriman's suspension

Hes getting 4 games for testing positive. Ive lost respect for him now. This is also a huge blow for the Chargers. He was one of their best pass rushers and run stoppers.

Who cares...they'll do bad, just liek they did last year.

That is a huge blow. A lot of people were talking about Merriman being the best defensive player in the game and he is only in his second year. This could really hurt his public relations now. He certainly has some explaining to do.

After looking at him in the ESPN Magazine a few months ago, I thought he was just a little too big. Chargers still have another great emerging linebacker in Shaun Phillips so I think they will be alright without him.

Phillips and Merriman could be very scary next year, if they stay healthy. The Chargers need some o-line though.

How come it's only a 4 game suspension? To me that seems like they're being far too lenient..
I mean Chris Andersen got a 2 year suspension for doing 'regular' drugs, not performance enhancing ones.

Well 4 games is 1/4 of the season....

I lose respect for players that cheat. I lose an even greater amount of respect for players that lie about it. I understand that sometimes this can happen "unintentionally", but come on, own up to it.

Damn, Im not suprised to hear this, In their first game (?) against Oakland, he was superman  But then again it was the Raiders...

He's appealing the suspension, and apparently he's going to be able to play this week and next week. It's going to be interesting to see if he plays like his usual self, or if it's apparent that he's not the same player he was physically in previous weeks.

Mon Oct 30, 2006 7:42 am

Hes playing like he was, 2 sacks in the first quarter. Also, he is going to lose the appeal. He wants to start his supension next week, so he doesnt have to miss Denver game.

Mon Oct 30, 2006 12:11 pm

Wow. He had 3 sacks in the game. Steroids or not, he's a beast.

Mon Oct 30, 2006 3:27 pm

Yeah, but we had Klop blocking him... I don't know why but it is something that the Rams coaching staff will need to look over.

Tue Oct 31, 2006 11:14 am

Update: His trial has been moved, so he gets to play against the Cleveland Browns. Psh. Like they really need Merriman to beat the Browns...

Great win for the Chargers btw, nice to see LT get 100+ again, and 3 td's.
Man that guys good!

The Rams defense is terrible though. Fakhir Brown and Will Witherspoon were the only ones doing something on d.

Looking at the Charger's shedule, they should will most of thier games; only worry it seems are the in-form broncs and maybe Seattle.
