Red Auerbach dies at age 89..

Seems like it wasn't that long ago that Red was in pretty good health, and I saw him in several interviews last season I believe. At least he didn't suffer, heart attack is probably one of the swiftest ways to go...

R.I.P Red Auerbach , one of the articles or forums I was reading mentioned an interesting point : that Auerbach , in one way or another , was responsible for the Celtics 16 world championships , whether it be as a coach or general manager drafting talent like Larry Bird.

Red is a guy who shouldn't have a sad funeral, and while its ok for people to mourn and say RIP, this is an opporunity to celebrate the life of a great person who lived a full life.

Absolutely. Red was ahead of his time. He helped desegregate the NBA(drafting the league's first black player, hired its first black coach, and fielded an all-black starting five in 1966). Remember, he did this in Boston, a city with a shaky racial history.

This is really sad, he was an amazing coach. He made the Celtics dynasty, and helped them as a franchise. He was a great man off the court. I'm really sad to see this happen. Rest In Peace Red.

this guy is what you call a legend, one of the the best to ever coach in the NBA.
his success as a coach and GM are unparrelled. he was in a class all of his own

i don't care much about the Celtics but i give credit where credit is due, rest in peace to Red Auerbach

i would have to say that my favorite red story is the one where once he heard that wilt chamberlain became the higgest paid player in the nba he redid bill's contract so he made 1 more dollar than wilt. R.I.P

I can't believe that guy was still alive. I didn't like his comments about phil jackson and about legends like jordan and shaq but what old guy isn't jaded? Rest in peace.
