as David Stern said the game will get more internationally popular..they might even have a team out side of north america by 2010..or so..

I don't think that's a good idea. I think it's fine to have Canadian teams as Canada is part of the North American continent and thus shares a border with the United States, but I don't think the NBA should expand any further than that.

It would be a scheduling nightmare for the league. Worrying about road trips and all that would be a mess. I heard an idea a while back about a NBA league in Europe similar to the NFL's idea. I like that.

Having a seperate league that doesn't have anything to do with the NBA schedule or standings wouldn't be a bad idea. But I don't think players would like being traded across the globe, nor endure regular international flights.

if it goes international it probably wont be in our lifetimes, or only just begin at the end of ours. i tend to agree with andrew though, i doubt it'll go international, but not because of the intangible details such as plane trips ,etc., those can be solved sooner or later by technology and ingenuity, but because, basically, basketball just isnt as popular internationally, which is why yao ming is a big deal because maybe he could do for basketball what baseball is in japan, or at least make the first step. australia has their rugby (i think, correct me if wrong, though i have couple of aussie friends, and they seem to like anything), canada their hockey, and everyone else their football (soccer). i dont see these trends changing anytime soon. plus basketball is becoming more and more an individual game which in my opinion is slowly diminishing its true entertainment value. just my 2 cents.

Freaking hell! How the hell is Canada supposed to finish top three if only Steve Nash wants to play?

Sun Aug 10, 2003 3:45 am

that sucks, stupid america brainwashed our best players not to play for us. Now our team is like Steve Nash and a bunch of nobodys. Englisg won't play, Jamaal won't play, macolluch can't play, and fox is injured i think and even if he isn't he still wouldn't play.

Sun Aug 10, 2003 5:25 am

yea, I was hoping that the Canadians will get the silver medal but now it is no use, Steve Nash cant do it all,,

Sun Aug 10, 2003 10:35 am

how come English and Jamal Maglore won't play?

Sun Aug 10, 2003 10:53 am

Comes to my mind patriotism. Some of them have, some of them don't. While there are some who would do anything to play/compete, those who can play or would represent better the country just don't care.

i think they want to focus on there NBA career more than representing there country, it is like they don't like being canadians

i think in some cases nba teams wont allow their players to play for their countries because they might get injured. i heard nash will only play if someone pays the insurance for his nba salaray if he gets injured.

i've yet to meet a candian who isnt at the very least immaculately proud, and very rightly so.
