"Managed" to ignore? It hurts me deep inside Null, everytime I read a post like that. It still hurts. :P

wicked waway, it's good that you made a thread to address this sort of thing, unlike some Pinoys like Null and me.
Maybe because we've been to disillusioned to address this, because the type of Pinoys that everybody despises just keeps coming in droves in the past to make our point reach across the members, so we just lost hope I guess.
This thread of yours is a good start. (Y)

Actually, a while ago I would've made a thread like this but then opted not to as everytime I try to be a liaison between warring parties I end up the one being attacked. And of course, as mentioned, there are Pinoy spammers that lurk up that end up going against your cause. But yeah I've given up a long time ago and just post from time to time and ignore the racist comments. Anyway, I've had enough seriousness for now. This is thread is a good start. Hopefully, this won't be the end.

You're such a pussy.

hey man- i'm filipino ;)

even if a lot of those guys were idiots, i think it's natural for a filipino to be bothered about the perception of "pinoys"

American Psycho is an amazing black comedy. Try "Ravenous" it's another.

And my entire reason for posting in this thread:

Therefore the NLSC is closest to being the most democratic forum, which I know of.

I'm sorry, but my anal-ness (and the fact that I'm reading so much on political theory and systems right now, it's all I can think about) requires me to quibble. That's not democratic and there's nothing democratic about the NLSC.

At first, I just left that, and I realized that some people are going to take it the wrong way and think I'm attacking them.

Democracy is a system of government, not a political theory. Democracy is where majority of all rules and everyone has a vote. One could argue that the NLSC is a Republic, that the moderators and administrators "represent" the people, but that's also untrue as the people don't get to choose them directly. The best description is that it's an Oligarchy (on the forum) or a Monarchy (overall) in practice.

I think what you're trying to get at is the liberalism of the forum, in that the allowance of users to practice their free speech freedoms, illustrates how liberal it is and not how democratic. Although, someone would make an argument that it's liberalism is actually low when it has restrictions on that speech:
Please note that we take the liberty to permanently terminate a member's account if they are disturbing the overall atmosphere of the Forum.

Profanity
Profanity is tolerated on the forum, but we ask that you try not use it in excess or unnecessarily. If you direct profanity towards other members, it will be treated as flaming and you will be asked to cease such behaviour.

Do not use racial or ethnic slurs/make fun of nationality
Racism will not be tolerated. While we cannot stop you from holding certain personal racial viewpoints, we ask that you keep these in check when posting on the forums. This kind of behaviour will be considered flaming, and will be dealt with accordingly.

Do not use the forum to post hate speech
We do not want to promote any kind of hate speech or hate propaganda. Again, you are entitled to your own beliefs, but please show common decency when posting in the forums.

Do not post only negative/derogatory comments
While feedback is welcomed and may certainly have a negative opinion about certain topics, we ask that you make an effort to contribute to the forum. Criticism is welcome, but please do not just post "I hate this forum" or "All of the topics are boring". Suggest what we can do to make this forum better or start a discussion on a topic that interests you. Negative feedback is useful, but flames and insults are not. In order to fix something, we need to know what is wrong and why you are unhappy.

So it's not really very liberal in law, although as you pointed out, the practice is fairly moderate.

benji, you made me more of an idiot than I already am. :x

Yeah, I was trying to say something along that line.

Interesting. Never thought of it that way.

Refreshen my ignorant mind. Communism is an economic theory, right? (I just need to know if I'm right, to repress my idiocy :) ).

Thu Oct 19, 2006 2:25 am

Yeah, though when people refer to "Communism" they usually mean the oppressive dictatorial systems of Stalin or say Kim Jong Il. In reality, those are Monarchial governments (one person holds all power) and most Communist states were more Oligarchies, where The Party ruled, even if one person was the leader.

There are three axis, social, economic and political. The social one would range from an anarchy or libertarianism social structure (no state social laws...in true anarchy it's whatever you decide to be social/personal freedoms, in libertarianism it's the society's agreement) to technically, "real" fascism, where the state controls all the social/cultural/personal aspects. Economics would obviously stretch from absolute capitalism (no state involvement) to communism (absolute state control of the economy) and Political from Monarchy (all power in one person) to Democracy (power in all people).

Obviously these individual extremes never exist and most political systems have been mixes. You can't control the economy (Communism) or personal/social aspects (Fascism) without also controlling the other or your hold on whichever you control would break down. So in practice Communists destroyed social/personal freedoms in order to maintain their power, and Fascists seized control of the economies. And you can't control anything if you're letting everyone have a say so totalitarian governments lean to one side of the political axis, and you can't have a state without some kind of government so you can't really move to the absolute other side of the political axis in practice.

Where the practical social and economic axis meet are authoritarian/totalitarian (state controls everything) and liberalism (state only ensures the structure by protecting freedoms). The NLSC is generally moderate with a slight lean to the authoritarian side in the actual law, but in practice is fairly laissez-faire unless one crosses the state.

Thu Oct 19, 2006 3:23 am

There has never been a true communist state... Correct me if I'm wrong, but because people are naturally selfish, Marx's theory could never be put into practice despite attempts? Or is it because there's a restriction on creative freedom, even though individuals are given occupation that best fits their wants?

Sorry if this thread turns into a economics/politics discussion.

Too off-topic...should discuss this elsewhere...
