Investing in an Xbox360. Is it time?

There have probably been threads like these before, but i was just looking for some opinions on the 360. Having played NBA Live 07 on PC and reading about the things that its missing, compared to the 360 version, such as signature jumpshots and actual ESPN content, i began to wonder, is it time for me to invest in an Xbox 360?

If i do decide to invest in one, it will be late november/early december at best, and before i go and get one, i wanted to know a few things..
a) Is it worth buying one? In other words, i dont wanna go out and pick one up, and then a newer Xbox comes out within a year.
b) Can you download roster updates etc via XB Live?
c) Personal opinions.. Xbox 360 or PC?

At the moment, my mindset is to get one. In short, this is how im thinking:
Pros: Amazing graphics, better NBA Live game, NBA 2k7
Cons: Loss of money, possible addiction, lack of screenshots.

Anyways, feel free to give your opinions.

A) Yes, there won't be anotehr XBox for quite some time.
B) Yes, as well as other sports games.
C) XBox 360

And if you have an XBox Live account (even for the 1st XBox) you can carry it over to the 360 and play Live 07 online.

Annother thing- Don't get NBA Live 07 on the 360 its absolute shit on the 360 too, get 2K7

Ill also look at a Live account once i get my 360, but im not sure if it will work with my connection.. Ive got broadband, but my speed is slower in order to get unlimited downloads cheaper. I take it this will effect online play?

yeh its been delayed til march. Even then there won't be a whole lot of units available.

Get the xbox 360 now and grab nba 2k7 when it comes out hopefully next friday.

uhh....the ps3 won't be released in Europe & Australia until March 2007 at the earliest so he's got a choice of a AUD$600 Xbox 360 (AUD$650 in bundle pack) or waiting until early December for a AUD$399 Wii....although by the sounds of it, he wants a 360....


Dean, I have a 360....to answer your questions:
yes to all 3 questions....

as far as games, best I've played on system so far is Call of Duty 2....then probably Saints Row & NBA 2k6 (although 2k7 is out in about a week or so)....I'd avoid Live until at least '08 comes out....my suggestions is make sure you get a HDTV to play the system on....even if it's just a 20" LCD, it's a must IMHO....

getting an xbx 360 to play live wouldnt be a good idea since gameplay should be the same and it´ll leave just the graphics and dynasty mode... now if you get 2k7 it totally makes it worth your investments.. there´re also tons of good games which make it much better than the pc...

Not to mention that the Smackdown vs Raw series and Grand Theft Auto series are now available on the XBox 360 as well... very popular games that before, were Playstation exclusive. Next up is Final Fantasy.

Not to forget COD3, Halo 3 and NBA 2K8. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you Dean except i'm certain that I want one. I'm pretty sure the price will drop a little bit by christmas too so thats when I'm going to wait for one, only con for me is that this year I got big exams and I won't be encouraged to revise with a 360

The drop in prices are doubful until the new version with HD-DVD built in (instead of the retarded "extra" option). So, don't bet on it.

Hey Dean, just letting you know the official xbox forums (the Australian ones) some guy has said JB Hifi has the 360 at $597 or $587 (can't remember the exact figure but was a decent discount). Should check it out, seems to be a solid bargain and might be able to score another gain with the saving you make.

No, they don't. And they almost certainly will not (atleast in Europe where PS3 is faaaar on the horizon and Wii markets to another community).

To take for granted a drop in a market virtually without competition is stupid. But if stores buy in a surplus of units, then the price after christmas might be slightly lower.

it'll drop at least temporarily in the sales...to a sales price. it always does. it may not be a huge drop, and it may go bakc up later, but it will drop.

It might depend on where you are but I think the prices will drop but maybe only slightly before/during Christmas and then after the whole Christmas period probably return back to the normal price or stay the same, who knows, best thing to do is to wait and find out

Well, you don't want to wait so long that the price goes back up. However, I'm not that much of an avid gamer and my lil bro dont play games either so maybe a 360 may not be worth it. But I have played a few pretty cool games on the system.
