Just finished watching jackass 2. Funniest fucking movie ever. I laughed so hard in the bad grampa part, giving the kid a ciggarette and booze. The guy standing next to him starts arguing with knoxville dressed as an old man. Then the guy goes to knoxville "lets take it outside" . Knoxville then goes " we are outside you dumbfuck. Its more understandable if you saw the movie. Pure genius. Terrorist skit was grade A. Skit that made me scringe was the leech on stevos eye.
On another not I'm dissapointed in steve. But bam and knoxville impressed the shit out of me.

I just saw Crank, and it was an awsome movie. I would recommend this to everyone who likes action movies. This is definately a good movie, with a good ending, except the ending is a little confusing.

I saw The Departed last night, fucking great movie. Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Sheen, Mark Wahlberg, Alec Baldwin, Anthony Anderson... the cast is just insane, I might go see it again.

^ What did you like about the movie? I'd watch that given at how many great reviews this movie got.

No spoilers here so it's safe to read...
The storyline for starters is pretty unique, with two cops both sort of being undercover in their own ways... DiCaprio being a genuine cop undercover with the mafia, Matt Damon's character is the protege of the actual mafia boss while also rapidly moving up the ranks in the police or whatever and using it to keep the bad guys out of trouble. It gets really interesting once they both realise that there's a rat in each camp, especially since Matt Damon is given the job of finding this rat within the police (who happens to be him) but also has to try and find whoever's infiltrated the mafia aswell.
The absolute best thing about the movie I thought was the humour... it's funnier than some comedy's I've seen, but it doesn't distract from the tone of the film whatsoever. Mark Wahlberg's character is hilarious, Matt Damon and Alec Baldwin have some great lines aswell. I think it's definitely worth seeing, compared to other movies I've seen this year it'd be top 5 for sure. It's not for everyone (I've come across a few people who hated it, thought it was boring etc) but I liked it.
It's a remake of the movie Infernal Affairs, most people who didn't like it have already seen that movie it seems.

Hey Jae, have you watched Infernal Affairs?
Mon Oct 16, 2006 12:09 pm
The Departed was fucking brilliant. I thought DiCaprio was awesome in it.
Jae, how cool was that Irish punk song in it!

Dropkick Murphy's

it was kinda hard not to headbang to it

Hey Jae, have you watched Infernal Affairs?
I have a feeling I might've seen Infernal Affairs 2, which was a prequel to the first one but outside of that I don't think so.

That movie was ok, not good not bad either for my taste.
This remake though has me psyched. Just by the casting and the plot itself is tailored for a Hollywood movie. I still see HongKong movies as action oriented.

I'm telling you guys, this country is pathetic.
I'll explain why, first off, The Departed releases here on the 9th of November. Yes, November. I could "obtain" it, there are decent quality ones, but a Scorece movie deserves to be seen on big screen, I'm a big fan of his work so I'm willing to wait. Besides, with that stellar star cast, how could you watch a TC?
Just to further prove my point and make your jaws drop in shock, the movie "Click" releases on the 19th of October in theatres. I've already "obtained" the full DVD (DVD5) of the damn movie and watched it like 3 times. (Once on my own, once with my sisters & once with friends.)
19th of October...Click...has your jaw dropped yet?

Wow.
About The Departed, I've been wanting to see it as well but school and work have me occupied. Couldnt find any "other" ones to watch which are worthwhile so I'm holding out until one day I have a few hours to spare and jet to the movies.

I saw the Departed in an advance screening about 2 weeks ago, and I just saw it again the other day, its so great. Instant classic for me.

I know nothing about the movie, but that alone would make me go see it.
Irish songs ...

... and not just punk ...

The Hills Have Eyes is so fucking gory. Had to wash my eyes with soap after watching it.
It wasn't that scary, a bit predictable but it was alright. But it was so gory that that's pretty much all I remember.
Talladega Nights is fucking hilarious. Favourite comedy since Anchorman.
So many great punch lines, great cast choice too.
Cal Naughton, Jr.: Shake and bake!
Jean Girard: Is that a catchphrase or epilepsy?
I'll write more about it later.

Is it me or have there not been many good movies that have come out this year?
There hasn't been any movie I've really really liked... there's some I've enjoyed but wouldn't see again and enjoy. Maybe people are running out of ideas?
Hopefully a movie like The Departed changes my mind... if not, I've lost hope in Hollywood films.

Watch foreign films, thats what I do. There has been a shortage or good films for the past few years. I remember a time when there was an awesome movie coming out every weekend this one summer. Now you wait weeks just to find something decent enough to even consider going to watch.
Tue Oct 17, 2006 10:59 pm
I think it's mostly the execution that's lacking, as opposed to the actual idea for the movie. There's been some good plots and whatever but alot of the time the writing and acting leaves alot to be desired.

I'm not too disappointed with the movies in the last couple of days, I mean we had a couple of decent movies in Lucky Number Slevin, Inside Man and to an extent, Click. The best movie up to now would probably be V for Vendetta.
Sure, we aren't getting anymore American Beauty's, The Usual Suspects or Fight Club's, but I wouldn't say I've lost hope in Hollywood. Nah, it hasn't gotten that far yet.
Besides, I tend to keep myself busy with Hindi movies aswell. (A handfull.)
It's going to be a good year, The Prestige is coming, there is the sequel to the Italian Job (The Brazillian Job), there is Ocean's 13 (Al Pacino, hell yes), there is Robert DeNiro's The Good Shepard (Damon, DeNiro) and ofcourse the one I'm waiting for, The Dark Knight, there is also Damon's Bourne Ultimatum...also just out of curiousity, I'd like to see Rocky Balboa.
Tue Oct 17, 2006 11:10 pm
I need to watch Click, for some reason I thought it wouldnt be good. I'd have to agree V for Vendetta and I'm looking forward to The Departed.
Honestly I couldnt survive on a US only movie diet. Thank got for French and Korean films. Japanese to an extent also. Wouldnt mind watching a Hinidi flick though (hint hint hint).

Hehe, I don't know if you'd like it. Basically Hindi movies are targetted at Indian viewers. It focuses on the basics of our upbringing, family, truth & being patriotic.
If you're a bit family oriented, you'll like some movies I've seen, I can refer to you if you wish, but if you don't like it, it won't be my fault.
Edit: Sorry, I thought you said you wouldn't mind, hehe, sorry.
Tue Oct 17, 2006 11:18 pm
Actually I should have typed wouldnt mind.

Just edited.
Send on the recommendations. Not all movies have to be solely punch, punch, kick, kick.

Bollywood doesn't really make a lot of punch punch movies anymore, it's more story oriented. (Mostly love or family.)
Off the top of my head, here's a few I liked over the years:
Lagaan - India's 2000 Oscar Entry, it's a historical film (fiction) about poor farmers having to pay tax (lagaan) to the British government even though they don't have crops and all. So one of the guys from the village (Aamir Khan) challenges the British to play cricket. The thing is, the villagers have never played cricket in their life, so they just spy on the Brits and so the story continues. This one is pretty much worth watching.
Black - Amazing movie dealing with three serious issues. 1) A blind, deaf & mute girl. 2) Alzheimer's disease. 3) The bond between a student and her teacher.
The role of the teacher is played by Amitabh Bachchan who is probably one of the biggest stars in the world now, almost everyone has vaguely heard of him. This is also a really serious movie and if I'm not mistaken, it doesn't have any songs in it.
Salaam Namaste - This is a "typical" indian movie. It starts off that way atleast. It's about Nick and Amber, they both live in Australia and are quite modern individuals. They meet at a wedding and sparks fly, they decide to try and live together...to see where it goes from there. One night they end up in bed & Amber ends up pregnant. Nick however doesn't want the kid and this leads to a conflict. How they deal with the relationship forms the basis of the story.
Fanaa - Fanaa means complete destruction. That's the literal meaning of the word. That's what this movie deals with, complete destruction of a girl's life. It starts off as a budding romance between a hippie type tour guide and a blind girl...thing is, there is a lot more than what the viewer is shown going on. Another terrific performance by Aamir Khan one of India's finest.
Now a couple of movies of my favorite indian actor, Shah Rukh Khan...
Kal Ho Na Ho - This was quite a touching movie if you've lost someone you love. The name literally means Tomorrow May or May Not Come. I won't say too much about the movie, all I'll say is that's it's a really good movie.
Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna - This movie just released, it deals with 2 couples and all four of the actors gave amazing performances. Dev is married to Rhea and Rishi is married to Maya. How their paths cross eachother and what leads out of that forms the basis of a realistic view of relationships.
Note: A lot of people have strongly disliked this movie given it doesn't match the indian idea of marriage and other issues shown in the movie.
If I were to start off with an indian movie to get a global view of what you're in for, I'd pick up Black & Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna as my first two to watch.
You should start with Black, that is an amazing movie.
