I guess it was kind of a parent thing to say, which is scary because I'm not one. It's true though, he's fortunate that the system held and he was able to break his fall with his hands else it could've been even worse (it did look to me like he hurt himself). I definitely don't think you're an oddball, I just think he was lucky to avoid a really bad injury. Also, I could be wrong, but it looked like the ball went in despite what happened.
