Hey Riot, is there anything bad about the U.S.? Please tell me, I'd like to know... I'm not trying to flame you here, but everyone has something about their home country that bugs them. What about you?

There is more but that's all that comes to the top of my head.

I think Michael Moore covers like half of those, specifically obesity.

I was talking more in terms of the quality of air and pollution. Both America and Canada spew out a lot of pollution but lately, believe it or not, America has been doing more to reduce it's air pollution than Canada has. I actually think I read that Canada's has gotten worse.

I think I'd take a beach in North Carolina or Florida over a beach in Canada.

There's some very nice beaches in Vancouver. I've been all through the Caribbean and Florida, and my personal preference is a beach 10 minutes from my house called Sandy Cove. The beaches are only good for 4 months of the year, but it's not like there isn't beaches.

Vancouver is great because it's basically all the climates throughout the year. In the summertime it's hot and dry, but it doesn't get too hot most of the time. In the winter it's cool, and sometimes snows, but is mostly Seattle-like. Compared to the US all it's missing is that desert-like climate of the southwest/Texas, and the riduclously low temperatures and heavy snow of the east coast. And you can get both of those climates if you drive 3 or 4 hours into the interior in the given season.

Check out McGill College in Montreal. It's a great school, one of the best in the world, and is in a great location. Montreal is a great city, featuring a great party scene and a drinking age of only 18!

if you go to canada, don't go to vancouver or toronto if you want to find a good job. calgary is the way to go.

Yes. New Jersey is a piece of shit. Go to some other place in the country before you judge it. Doobie, move out of NJ and go West. I'm not saying go all the way to the coast but just go West.

don't worry Doobie, I'm like 7 years older & I still feel the same....I got a pretty good paying job, but I can't be bothered & feel like I need a change, even though I've only been in job 5 months....I'm settled down with a gf (soon to be fiancee), have a house & mortgage, but I yearn for more....basketball, Xbox 360, internet, gf, hanging with friends helps situation but doesn't solve an emptiness....I've talked about it my family, friends, gf & to tell you the truth, I'm not the only one who feels this way....I don't know if it's a guy thing as a lot of guys I know are in similar predicament....I don't know if it's just a thing with society where people are more impersonal & most people don't know the neighbour 2 doors down, whereas when I was a kid, you'd know people at the other end of the street....part of me wants to go to Europe & I probably will, on a long, 4 week holiday....maybe it's that I have a whole bunch of friends in NZ that I've lost contact with....I have a Bachelors degree in Business Strategy/Entrepreneurship, a Masters degree in Professional Accountancy....and I feel like I shouldn't have to do more study, but it's seems to be expected unfortunately it seems like I feel guilty when I work less than a 43 hour week, but I shouldn't....more is expected of everyone at all levels I guess....and in the end, when I'm over-analysing things, I just figure it's not all bad & I could be in a lot worse predicament, & that I've got a lot to be thankful for....rant over....hope that helped or not....in the end, just follow your heart & your gut, forget what other people tell you & go for it....even if it doesn't work out, I run by the philosophy that you made the right decision at that time given the information you had....enjoy....

I'd say the initial major isnt that very important since most students usuallly change it a couple times after they begin college and are exposed to different areas of study. Look at me, I took courses directed at Business Administration in high school, started college doing Art, and am currently doing Computer Information Systems. Just find something you like in even the slightest way and go for it(dont forget to apply for scholarships and stuff, your hispanic right?).

Research. Go to www.bls.gov and just look up jobs you like and find out the average salary at that position or whatever info you can. Go to wikipedia or google and find out what exactly you would be expected to do everyday with a career in that field. You have to be proactive about it (and I'm not referring to the skin care system). Speak to successful people in your family about what they did to get where they are and what advice tehy can give you.

I'm not gonna recommend colleges because thats not very helpful to your situation considering you havent provided much info about what you wanna do. I may recommend a college because I know they are a good research school but what if you dont wanna do research, you wanna become a chef and that college doesnt put as much funding into that area? You have to decide for yourself basically, which and why.The easy way out in life is to make other people make the decisions. Theres a difference between being the one giving the orders and the one taking them. To find out the best college you have to look them up, make some phonecalls, ask plenty question (concerns) then move on to the next one if you dont like what you hear. You have to 'want' to take control of your own situation and simply changing leaving New Jersey may not be the complete solution to your problem. Just keep a positive attitude about your life on a whole. I feel like men think best taking a shit so go grab some Mexican food then go sit on the pit and think deeply about where you want your life to be 15 years from now and how best can you go about achieving that.

To be honest, I had a very good friend in high school who shared the same sentiments you are feeling now. He kept putting off college until "he found out what he wanted to do." He is currently unemployed and still living with his parents. He is also 3 years older than I am. The only reason he is still there is because his family is loaded but not everyone lives in that kinda situation. Now he says he wants to produce beats which I have no problem with but as I said before be proactive about it. Invest your time in what you wanna do and dont just sit around all day eating out your mother's food supply. Go out with your demo or whatever and try to get people hearing your beats. Get around other people who mke beats.


On that note I feel thats the best thing about college, sharing an environment with people who share the same interests and making connections. I look at it as a you help me I help you kinda thing. I have never had to pay a red cent for college and I'm very grateful for that. In return I do what I can to help out. I was in an Honors program so I figured hey, if the director wants me to help with some recruiting why not. If he wants me to make a speech then why not (he's paying for me to be here). From doing these little things I got in their good books and as a result I was basically among first choice in receiving A scholarship when transferring from the school, didnt have to apply or write any essays for study abroad programs(Austria), represented the program when Puffy came for that Vote or Die thingy, get VMA and Grammy tickets, been on Good Morning America with a group representing the program and the list goes on. All these things I wouldnt have done if not for going to college in the first place and then being noticed for the effort I put into making something of myself. I look at it now and I recently applied for a part time job and placed my old director on my reference list and when the people called me up they were talking about how they said great things and I should call them and thank them. Once your in, you can make things happen. When your not, things are kinda tough.

Anyways I feel like I may be straying a bit so I will quit my blabbing. Half of what I just typed I have no recollection of so I'm praying its makes some sense. If not then oh well. Just remember, theres lots of fresh and educated cooch to be had at college also.

No love for Edmonton? We're just great of a city as Calgary, in my simultaneously biased and humble opinion.

North Carolina has some great beaches. They're beautiful and all, if you don't mind getting eaten by sharks. The Outer Banks are known for having some of the most shark infested beaches (at least compared with some of the surrounding areas...)

NC overall though is a really nice state... great colleges, the mountain region that I live in is great if you're a seasonal resident. There are the Smoky Mountains which are beautiful during the fall, and if its snowing they're also amazing to see. Nice beaches, rolling hills in the piedmont.... I cant wait to trade it all in for a dinky apartment in the middle of a smog filled city

I went to Cape Hatteras, North Carolina and just swam in the beaches. You know Avon and stuff, right? Those are some nice beaches and nice water. Of course, it kind of freaked me out that there was a shark attack one week after we left on the same beach we were swimming on.

If you want good beaches, great water and weather, follow Jackal's advice and go to Curacao, Aruba and whatever the other neighbor island, which name's starts with a B, is called. Trust me, North America isn't the best place for beaches and water.

there's been a few people killed in the beaches in swim in. we get sharks all the time. It's annoying if you go down to the beach and they evacuate the place because of sharks. No relief from the whether.
