Celtic have completed the signing of Thomas Gravesen from Real Madrid on a three-year contract for a reported fee of around £2million.
The 30-year-old Denmark midfielder flew to Glasgow on Monday for talks and a medical before returning to the national team camp on Tuesday night without signing a contract as reports emerged there were concerns about an old knee injury.
However, the SPL champions and CIS Insurance Cup winners have now announced the former Everton player has joined them after they sold Stilian Petrov to Aston Villa.
Gravesen said: "I am delighted to have joined Celtic, one of the biggest clubs in the world."
Celtic also have the option of keeping the former Everton player for a further year.
The signing is a major coup for the Glasgow giants after losing Petrov to former boss, Martin O'Neill, who is now at Villa Park.
But the arrival of Gravesen, who is currently away on international duty, will enhance the Hoops' squad as they embark on a Champions League campaign, which sees them up against Manchester United, Benfica and FC Copenhagen.
Strachan and Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell beat off interest from a number of English clubs, including Newcastle United.
Gravesen added: "When I was made aware of Celtic's interest, naturally I was very keen to talk to the club and now having spoken to the manager, the chief executive and other people at the club I am very excited about this move.
"I am eager now to get going and do all I can for Celtic."

Newcastle United have agreed a shock loan swoop for Manchester United's young striker Giuseppe Rossi.
The Italian youth international is highly-rated at Old Trafford and had been expected to make an impact on the United first team during the coming campaign after the sale of Ruud van Nistelrooy to Real Madrid.
Indeed, Ferguson refused to allow the American-born Rossi to move to West Bromwich Albion as part of the deal that saw Tomasz Kuszczak join The Red Devils.
However, Glenn Roeder's Magpies have now managed to convince Ferguson that Rossi's interests will be best served at St James' Park in a loan move until January.
"It was a big decision for us, especially as we don't have the choice of strikers," Ferguson told United's official website.
"But this is something that Giuseppe wanted, as he needs regular first-team football.
"When he returns, he will be a more experienced player who will be able to offer us much more."
Despite signing Obafemi Martins from Internazionale, Newcastle were still keen to reinforce their attack after seeing Alan Shearer retire and Michael Owen pick up a serious injury during this summer's World Cup.
The capture of Rossi will be seen as another coup for the club who signed Damien Duff from Chelsea over the summer, and the Italian forward, who has been prolific in Ferguson's reserve ranks, will look to serve notice of his great potential at St James' Park over the coming four months.

Argentina stars lead South American influx
ON A transfer deadline day that promises to leave managers, chairmen, agents and football supporters in a daze, the most frenzied activity may take place at Arsenal, who were close to agreeing a deal to sign Júlio Baptista last night on a season-long loan from Real Madrid, with José Antonio Reyes returning to Spain for a year.
However, that deal could be overshadowed by developments that may end with two of Argentina’s World Cup stars moving to one of the Barclays Premiership backwaters.
A meeting in London yesterday between the powerbrokers at Corinthians, the Brazilian club, ended with the likelihood of Javier Mascherano and Carlos Tévez, the finest young players in South America, joining an English club on loan. The club in question was unclear last night but, rather than Chelsea or Manchester United, who have monitored both players obsessively over the past 18 months, their destination was understood to be either Arsenal or an ambitious smaller club with more money to spend, such as Portsmouth.
Such news may prompt despondency among United supporters, given Sir Alex Ferguson’s obvious need for a top-class midfield general and centre forward, but it is understood that Corinthians’ masterplan is to loan the players to a Premiership club this season in the hope of attracting a mammoth bid from either United or Chelsea next summer.
Ferguson, the United manager, having cooled his enthusiasm about bidding for Mascherano this summer because of concerns about whether the Argentinian would settle in England, is understood to have been informed and welcomed the initiative. Belief that Tévez is no longer in Corinthians’ plans was strengthened last night when they signed Marcio Amoroso from AC Milan on a one-year deal.
With clubs having until midnight to register any new signings, there will be no shortage of activity elsewhere. Even though the proposed deal has been described as “dead”, there remains the possibility that Ashley Cole’s acrimonious move from Arsenal to Chelsea may be revived.
Chelsea maintain that they will not increase their offer, but they believe that the Arsenal board may be finally panicked into accepting their £17 million offer for a player who has made clear his displeasure with life in North London.
With or without a deal for Cole, though, Arsenal promise to be the biggest movers and shakers of the day, with Reyes hoping to complete a “dream” move to Real, albeit initially on a season-long loan, and Baptista potentially moving in the opposite direction.
That deal is not yet certain, with Atlético Madrid offering Reyes the option of a permanent £13 million transfer, but all parties were last night encouraged by a breakthrough in talks. Baptista, the Brazil forward, hopes to secure a Spanish passport today in order to overcome work- permit complications.
Should Reyes join Atlético rather than their Madrid rivals, there would be a knock-on effect for Tottenham Hotspur, who would be hopeful of signing Martin Petrov, the Bulgaria winger, on loan. Such a deal would end Tottenham’s long search for a top-class left winger, but other options were being explored, including Harry Kewell. Liverpool, who are said to have rejected an initial loan bid from Spurs, are also in talks with Blackburn Rovers about signing Lucas Neill, the Australia defender.
An exception to the frenzied last-minute activity may be Old Trafford, but the departure last night of Giuseppe Rossi on loan to Newcastle United until January 1 increased the likelihood of Ferguson bringing in a striker to replace the departed Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Ronaldo/Adriano swap deal reportedly agreed in principle
AFP
August 30, 2006
MADRID (AFP) - Real Madrid have reportedly agreed in principle a swap deal with Inter Milan with Ronaldo going back to his former Italian club and fellow striker Adriano going in the other direction.
According to Cadena Ser radio's internet site, "Real Madrid and Inter have already agreed terms."
Madrid coach Fabio Capello is known to be a big fan of Brazilian striker Adriano.
The 2002 World Cup winner Ronaldo, whose contract runs till June 2008 and has a net annual salary of 7.5 million euros, is set to be back in action in several weeks after having undergone an operation on his left tibia following the World Cup finals last month.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United were all thought to be competing for the duo, along with some of the continents elite including Bayern Munich and Milan.
However, The Hammers have struck a deal with Media Sports Investments (MSI) - who own the rights to the Corinthians pair.
South American sources claim Portsmouth were also in line to broker a move, but it seems MSI have decided that a move to West Ham will best serve their prize assets.
The deal is believed to be initially for a season-long loan for the duo - but it could become permanent if all parties are happy, although it remains to be seen whether West Ham could afford them with both players carrying price tags of over £15 million.
The pair are both currently already in England ahead of this weekend's Brazil versus Argentina clash at Arsenal's brand new Emirates Stadium and this has aided the move.
A statement on Tevez's website states a move to Upton Park for himself and Mascherano has been sealed.
"Carlitos Tevez along with his former Corinthians team-mate, Javier Mascherano, has signed a contract to play with West Ham United of England," read the statement.
MSI - based in London - have also added to their stable by signing River Plate striker Gonzalo Higuain - who is set to be taken to England next year.
As part of the deal MSI have bought half of the player and he will now stay with River until next summer before then being moved on, with South American sources insisting The Premiership will be his next stop.
"Having the chance to spend more time at River and then go to Europe is a nice," he said.
"I try not to think too much in my transfer. River has been the team that helped me be known in Europe so now I have to do things correctly in Argentina before I go to Europe."

Speculation is Spain suggests Ronaldo could be set for return to Internazionale from Real Madrid, with his countryman Adriano going in the opposite direction.

According to Spanish radio, Inter have tabled a swap deal involving the two Brazilian strikers.
The major sticking point with the deal would be Real Madrid requiring to free up a place for a non-EU player to join.
However, the possible arrival of Jose Antonio Reyes, with Julio Baptista going to Arsenal, would free the way for Adriano to join Real.
Ronaldo's future in Spain has been a major talking point over the summer, with Inter's rivals Milan also keen to bring the striker to Italy.
After negotiations ended last week the 29-year-old was expected to remain at the Bernabeu but the latest reports will again increase speculation about the hit-man's possible exit from Spain.
Meanwhile, Inter are thought to be close to agreeing a deal with Palermo for winger Mariano Gonzalez.
The Argentina international is expected to seal his switch to the Serie A giants before the transfer window closes.

Dutch duo join PSV
PSV Eindhoven have signed Jan Kromkamp from Liverpool and Patrick Kluivert from Valencia.
Kromkamp failed to settle at Anfield following his move from Villarreal in January, a transfer which saw Josemi move in the opposite direction.
He made only 18 appearances and Reds boss Rafa Benitez has now decided he no longer needs the defender.
Kluivert has been given a season-long contract and will be hoping to get his career back on track after an injury-ravaged year at Valencia.
The striker scored just one goal in 10 appearances at Valencia as a persistent knee problem restricted him to a minor role.
Kluivert was then told to look for another club after being left out of the squad for Valencia's pre-season training camp.
With Fernando Morientes and Francesco Tavano arriving at the Estadio Mestalla the 29-year-old was left surplus to requirements, and PSV have leapt in to sign him before the close of the transfer window.
